If you were told you had to evacuate what would you grab?

Kids and pets
Personal item for each kid.
Purse
Laptop
Small safe with our documents
Wedding ring (I don't wear it always due to metal allergy)
Grandmother's locket

And of course quick suitcase of clothes, toiletries.

If I had time I would grab some framed photos that we don't have in digital format.

How about you?

Husband
Cat
Meds
Folder of important papers
Laptop

If there was time I'd grab clothes.

It depends on how long I have.

Dog/cats
Important documents (all are together in a ziploc....birth certificates, etc)
DH's meds
my jewelry (what little I own)

Then with a bit more time:
laptop/desktop
photos (albums/loose, then framed)
tv/gaming systems
clothes

More things if I could fit and had time
Food/water
Camping gear

I can lose all the furniture and kitchen stuff, and not blink. I think I would cry if I lost the electronic stuff, though...so much money tied up into them.

Dogs, cat, kid, our steel box with passports, etc. and a painting we have of me and our daughter if there is time. We have about 30 photo albums so I would give those up. And everything on my laptop is on carbonite so I can recover it later. Everything else is insured to the max. Good riddance. Good way to get some new stuff and reduce clutter.

We have left for a couple hurricanes. The first one looked like it would be a cat 5, and looked as if it was coming straight to us, so, dw took everything. kids, dog, photos, darn near half the filing cabinet, clothes, (brought some wine!!) computer etc. filled up the hummer and suburban with junk. storm ended going to the east of us and didn't hit us at all. second time we ran another one looked to build and come at us, and it did come at us, just died down to about 75mph winds by the time it got over our house. no damage, although we did loose a tree. That time we didn't bring nearly as much, but did bring photos and a backup of most of the hard drive. Didn't bring any wine, which is abummer, since power was out for about 36-48 hours, and wine in the cooler spoiled.

Well last yr when we were going to be stuck with the floods, we grabbed dogs, dog food, meds, computer, toiletries, and tossed some clothes in a bag and gone.

finny story, during the first evac., DW says, we have to stay--what if something falls on the roof, and there is a hole. I said, what about it. She said, you would have to go up and put a tarp across it to keep the rain out. I said--you want me to climb on a second story roof, in a hurricane, with a tarp, and cover a hole???????? She ended up seeing my point.

Did it for Katrina. Kids, dh, meds, photos, keys, purse, important papers and passwords, clothes, kids favorite items, bedding and pillows.

Rabbit
Kindle
Jewelry box
File with passports, car titles, and Birth Certificates.
Laptops/iPad
Purse
Overnight kit

We have 72 hour packs ready to go, so we'd grab those. I guess it depends on why we're being evacuated, and where, but I'd probably want to bring my laptop so I could work. I'm sure my son would want his ipod and my daughter would want her Kindle. My husband just sold his laptop though, so he's out of luck when it comes to personal electronics because we haven't replaced it yet. I'd probably grab some craft projects out of my craft box and allow each of the kids to bring a toy.

Dog, wife, son, emergency papers, guns, cash, computer, clothes if time available, and that's in no particular order of importance.

I am so curious, as we all watched Katrina for weeks on the news, do you wish you grabbed anything else important? Did you miss any one item that you didn't take, from home? We can all imagine what we'd grab, but your catastrophe was real.
