ETA: Gary Coleman has died.

I hadn't heard about this situation. I hope he is able to make a full recovery.

Regardless of how "relevant" he is, some of the posts on this thread and others just make me wonder why I even come to the DIS anymore. If you don't care about him, why comment? There are threads all the time on here about "celebrities" whose names I've never heard, and if I post anything (which I normally don't), it would be a quick "Who is he/she?" out of curiosity.

I'd rather hear about him than about Tiger Woods any day even though Tiger Woods may be more broadly "relevant" right now. As minor as it may have been, Gary Coleman was more "relevant" to my life than Tiger Woods will ever be. I watched "Diff'rent Strokes". I've never watched golf in my life and never will. But does that mean I should imply that people on here are being foolish if they want to post their concerns about Tiger Woods? Nope. I'm sure there are other people who don't really have a clue who Bret Michaels is, but should they post "Who cares?" posts on threads of concern about him? Nope.

As for the comments about his stature, that's pretty pathetic considering this has nothing to do with the current health problem. And don't you think that that may have been part of the reason for Gary Coleman's problems in life? Height has a huge impact - on men especially. And I would assume that for short actors who become so tied to a certain role that it might even be worse. I seem to recall that Herve Villechaize (aka Tattoo) became an alcoholic and eventually committed suicide.

I wish him well too. Celebrity, every day person, whatever I feel bad when I hear about bad things happening to innocent people. Mean spirited comments and all is not really necessary.

She died of a drug overdose that I believe was ruled a suicide.

I heard about this on the news this morning. It's really sad. I hope he will be able to make a recovery. I loved him on "Different Strokes".

Has this guy done ANYTHING since Different Strokes? That was like 35 years ago, right? Too much hype on a washed up child actor IMO.....

he did about as much as somebody like paris hilton, only no sex tape.

and considering that he had some serious health issues as a child and still acted on T.V. was pretty gutsy.

not to mention having to have several transplants.

hope he recovers.

Gary Coleman has died as the result of injuries he suffered earlier this week, the hospital tells TMZ.

We've learned Gary's wife, Shannon, made the decision to pull life support early this AM.

We're told Coleman died at 12:05 PM MST. He died of a intracranial hemorrhage.

Family members and close friends were at Coleman's side when life support was pulled.

He was 42.

As TMZ first reported, Coleman was rushed to a hospital in Utah after he fell and hurt his head. He was on life support since Thursday.

There will be a press conference at the hospital at 3:00 PM PT

I have such great memories of Diff'rent Strokes. Some of the best Very Special Episodes in TV history. Gary had a rough go of it, with health and legal troubles in recent years... but for me, he'll always be Arnold, and I'll always remember him making me laugh.

As a man of 33 yrs and a child of the 80s, Different Strokes was HUGE for me! Who can forget the 'very special episode' with Arnold and Dudley's encounter with the bicylce shop owner. I even loved the show through the introduction of the cute replacement 'Sam'. Heck, I still know the know Diffrent Strokes theme by heart.

I blame the GOOCH!
