Escaping real life

Wifey refers to our vacations and day trips as 'hopping off the planet'. This particularly describes WDW because once we check in at Board Walk we rarely leave the property. Yes, we know Main St in MK is an idealized version of America as it never really was and we never really visited Norway, Italy the UK etc in WS but it's close enough. This site provides a 'Disney Fix' between trips as well as saving us time and money with the info to be found here. I just booked our air fare this morning, we have an AP so we're set to go.

You Sir are Right On. This is the reason I give to my co-workers when they ask "Why do you go to THAT place every year?" It is a full week of forgetting that we have so many problems in this world. I go without a laptop, I only use my cell to call the kids at home that we made it and are OK. After that the cell is forgotten. I've told my kids if the house catches fire don't call me. I'll handle it when I return. Just in case you are thinking I'm a bad parent, my wife and I are in our 60's and the kids I referred to are in their 40's. We travel down to WDW every year to get what we call our "Child on". We don't get a paper in the morning, we keep the TV in the room off. I don't want to think about anything other than "Magic". This is the one time during the year when my wife and I can act out our childhood fantasys and just relax. I find it hard to understand all of the negatives that I read every day on this post concerning WDW, the hotels, the food, the lines, the rude people, the cost, the heat, the tour groups. Here's a clue to a perfect vacation folks. Take a deep breath, walk a little slower, look around you and enjoy the moment. It isn't about how many rides you can get on, it's not about having 4-star dining at the quick serve locations. It's about spending time with your family and enjoying eachother in a place that was made from Magic. In just 6 days my wife and I once again begin our Magic experiance and we can get our "Child" back on, even if it is for only 7 days.

Great post! I too am a long time lurker, with only a few posts under my belt. But, I'm here multiple times a day and somehow feel connected to this wonderful community!

This is a perfect of description of how the wife and I feel. You nailed it 100%!

OK, to Shane, Jenny, and Floridadream, you guys should post more often! You fit perfectly with rest of this Disney crazy bunch. No need to be shy here, we've all got some Mickey t-shirts in our closets, and most likely at least one set of ears :earsboy:

And for DisDadDVC's poll

1) Rope drop or sleep in? -- Recovering commando tourist here, so sleep in.

2) EMH. Must do or must avoid? -- Recovering commando tourist here...Don't usually get up early, and am too tired to stay up late.

3) Saving spots in line -- It's generally not cool, but I have empathy for folks with kids.

4) ECV boarding etiquette for buses -- We rent a car.

5) Stitch. Horrible ride, or worst ride ever? -- Worst Disney movie/character ever. Much preferred Alien Encounter.

6) Brazilian Tour Groups -- I'd like to thank the adult women for wearing entirely inappropriate swimwear at the pool. ;)

7) Is there still a "slow time" at WDW? -- Sure, it's a right place/right time type of deal.

Welcome, OP! These boards are a wonderful way to tap into that mental "happy place" that we all know from loving Disney!
