Escape to Neverland - A new Tagliarchy adventure!!

Seewhattimesdone ~ I guess its all about where you live. See I find the thought of Europe quite boring generally. When I plan holidays my first thought is always much further afield, unless its DLRP or France with my family. I'm not saying I don't like Europe, the places I have been have been lovely and there are a few I would like to visit, but I generally find the US and further afield much more interesting. I guess when you live in the US it feels much the same, you want to travel further afield and see somewhere different.

There's just so much history in Europe! Everything is just so much closer. I get really sick of the U.S. ethnocentrism. Yeah, the U.S. has some great stuff but there's so much cool stuff to see. I love learning about other cultures and I want to try new food, see art, and beautiful architecture. I really want to go backpacking some day for about month in Europe :) I'd at least like to live in another country some day. Maybe Canada :lovestruc

Seewhattimesdone ~ I am the same, I love learning about different cultures and then visiting new and interesting places and seeing and doing as much as possible. I love trying new food but have to admit Europe is not my favorite place for this, I am not a fan of a lot of the food in European countries. Thailand, the Caribbean and different parts of the USA on the other hand have great food. Oh and Italian and Spanish are good too.
For architecture, Paris has some gorgeous buildings, I love their architecture. And there is so many beautiful and interesting places to see there. Then again pretty much everywhere I have visited has been amazing and beautiful, especially the Smoky Mountains.

Have you been to Canada before?

You're so lucky that you've been to Thailand! I've always wanted to explore more of Asia. I've been to Tokyo; I wish I could live there but it's way too expensive. I just hope that I get to see more of the world some day.

Yes i've been to Canada. I absolutely love it  Vancouver is the most beautiful city i've ever seen. At night it sparkles like diamonds. And you can't beat the skiing at Whistler! :thumbsup2
I'm originally from Seattle so it reminds me a lot of home.

Good morning all,
It is so cold here today!! We are putting our outdoor lights up to day so the house will look nice and christmassy by the end of the day.

Seewhat I loved Magic Mountain. We stayed at the Hilton at the bottom of Magic Mountain Parkway and went into the park for 3 days which I loved. The only problem was it was in August and boy it was hot!!

Ariel I know what you mean about not thinking of Europe as a holiday destination. I visited lots of European countries when I was younger and now that the tunnel is open we drive when we go to DLRP so I don't actually see European countries as another country as we drive there in our car!!

Everyone else Hi!! Do any of you have anything nice planned for today?

I guess I better go wrap up warm and get all the boxes of lights ready to put outside. Have a great day everyone.

Seewhattimesdone ~ If you get chance you should definitely go to Thailand. It such a beautiful country and has so many things to see and do. And it is so, so cheap too, we booked everything whilst we were there pretty much and never spent more than £20/night on accommodation or food.
I'm so glad you love Canada, we are thinking of going there in a few years and are so excited. We have been looking in to Whistler as this is where I really want to visit, I want to stay at the Fairmont Chateau there. I will definitely have to get lots of information from you as I have never been to Canada and have never been skiing so don't really know where to start. Vancouver sounds lovely, is that fairly near to Whistler. I think they do options to stay in Vancouver first for a few nights which I had already planned to do, now you have said it was great I think we will have to.

Karen ~ I don't think it is cold here, it is actually pretty sunny outside but then I haven't been out there so it may just be deceiving me. I haven't planned much for today, Nick is at work today so we are planning to do all the decorations tomorrow, I'm so excited. For today I am planning to watch some of the Christmas films on TV... well there not actually Christmas but on for Christmas... Steel Magnolia's and Home Alone, I haven't seen either in years.
I hope to visit the one in California soon and go to 6 Flags but for now we are planning to visit 6 Flags over Georgia in August and can't wait, we love coasters.

It always feel so good to sleep in!!!!!:goodvibes

Today I'm going to my friends house for a Lia Sophia party (jewelry party). I've never been to a jewelry party before, so it should be interesting. I always where alot of jewelry, so I'm sure this is something that will perk my interest. I"ll have to let you know tomorrow how it was.

Last night Kevin and I went to his works Christmas party - it was nice!!! We didn't stay long though, because it was about an hour from home, and Kevin's mom didn't want to stay to late.

It's really cold around here :cold: When I took Sophie out this morning it was whomping 5 degrees outside :cold: I really hate winter, and I'm really looking forward to retiring somewhere warm, like Florida :teeth: But then my girls will be older, and they'll probably be married with children, and then I won't want to go

Well, I guess I should get some breakfast going.
Have a good day today everyone!!!

I am sat at home on this winters eve, and as I look out the window it looks so festive and beautiful. The sun is setting behind the trees and there is a low red and orange glow coming from behind the leafless trees which appear like silouettes. There are a few little rabbits in the field and across the road lights flicker from the houses. It is beautiful and looks like soemthing from a painting. Whats even more lovely is that I am sat here watching Steel Magnolia's. I used to love this film and haven't seen it for years. Its making me so excited in so many ways. Firstly they have just had the most beautiful Christmas with festivals and parties and gorgeous decorations... it looks so perfect I want to be there. And secondly because it is set in the South and it is making me so excited for my holiday next year. It reminds me how I love the South, the warmth and liveliness of the people, the beauty of the country, and the great Dolly Parton. It is so great seeing her in a film after being at her park and her hometown. And when this is over Home Alone is on, so I get even more of a Christmas fix. Isn't this just the most beautiful time of year.

It has been a beautiful day here too, but so cold!! We could see the sun setting over the trees on the field next to our house and bunnies hopping on the grass (OK they were my 4 pet bunnies hopping around our back garden!!) We managed to get our outdoor decorations up which was great. Now I just have the presents to wrap and we are ready for Christmas!!

Karen ~ If only I was half as organised. I have 4 presents so far and that is it. Cant wait to get all my presents so I can have my wrapping day, I love that. We have millions of rabbits outside, both in the field and garden. We also have pheasants and a muntjack deer that likes to visit us now and again. I love our garden and field at this time of year, it looks so beautiful and festive without having to do anything to it.

Wow I had no idea that Thailand was so cheap! Maybe a trip there would be more possible than I had though. You are going to love Canada! Every December I go back up to Seattle to visit family and last year we drove to Whistler. We went through Vancouver to Whistler. It was only a few hours drive total and I don't remember Whistler being more than two hours from Vancouver. The skiing in Whistler is great. There's so many options for every skill level because they have several mountains to choose from. There's a cozy village where you can hang out too :cloud9: The people are really nice; we met a lot of Australian's and people from the UK as well. I loved hearing their accents

Seewhattimesdone ~ Since I have never been skiing before we would obviously need lessons. Do they do group lessons for families? And once you have had lessons I am guessing you are just free to hit the slopes when you like? What hotels in Whistler would you recommend and other than skiing what is there to do?

I seem to be forever asking you questions :thumbsup2

Never been skiing?! You're gonna love it! I've been skiing practically since I could walk but two years ago I thought I would try snowboarding lessons  Let's just say, big mistake there. They do have group lesson. I think they're called the Whistler Blackcomb skiing school. I saw them skiing when I was there. Once you're done with the lessons you're free to go where you please :) The maps that are stationed around the mountains will show you which ski runs are appropriate for your skill level so you don't get stuck at the top of the mountain :rotfl:

Oh my gosh there are so many hotels to choose from. We stayed at a little two story condo because there was six of us. I've heard good things about the Sundial Boutique Hotel Whistler, Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside. I believe there's also a Hilton there as well. I know there are some cheaper hotels that are pretty close too. You'll be able to find pretty much anything you're looking for. There's some really cute shops and good restaraunts around the area. As for other activities you can go inner tubing (yes inner tubing :rotfl: ) on the snow. They also have treetrek's (where you walk in the tops of the trees on cool walkways) and zipline's. We were so tired from all the skiing that we would just fall asleep in front of the fire at the end of the day! :faint: :cloud9:

Seewhattimesdone ~ Thanks for all the information. I know, its tragic we have never been skiing, but then we dont get enough snow in our country to do it here. We planned to go to Colorado skiing a few years ago but ended up going to Disney World instead. I was beginning to think that maybe we should look into another area of Canada as I've heard people say its really expensive and things, but after what you have said I think Whistler's the best decision. A condo sounds good as there will be 5 of us but I also really like the look of some of the hotels. At the moment I am looking at the Fairmont Chateau, Four Seasons or Westin, all of which look beautiful. The Fairmont is winning at the moment if its not going to be stupidly expensive, and because were thinking of going for Christmas it looks like they have lots going on there. Then again it would be nice to have a bit more space like a condo would give being Christmas, that way we could decorate and have space for opening presents and things. Do you know what company you used for your condo?

Hey gang!
I'm back.
:)
We had a blast.
Weather was not the best but we still had a great time.
WDW at Christmas time is beautiful!
And the cruise was great.

I'm quite new here so thought I better say Hi :wave2:

Sounds like you had a great vacation, I'm very glad. I would love to go to WDW at Christmas, it looks so magical :cloud9:. Did you do a Disney cruise?

Welcome back Wallyb!

We got home last night after 11pm---took 7 hours with traffic and dinner. We are so tired today. FIL is experiencing some issues as he has to get off his high blood pressure medicine for his chemo/experimental drug study that should start in a week or so. He had a blast Sunday with 3 out of 4 sons there plus 2 out of 3 grandsons plus me watching the Eagles/Giants game.

I spent a lot of the time with my niece---playing Rummy-O, seeing the new house/her rooms), dressing her up for the father/daughter dance (she had a tierra for it), and watching her sing with the choir. NC Beast and I gave her an Advent chocolate count-down calender...her mom and dad are real happy. :rolleyes1 Well, Sis-in-law had to go out of town again so daddy has to deal with the sugar rush. Dniece has been diagnosed with Lyme disease so she needs a little spoiling (1 month of anti-biotic chewables).

Welcome! :)

Yes - we did a 4 day disney cruise.
It was our first cruise ever.
Very nice.
