Escape to Neverland - A new Tagliarchy adventure!!

Jessie is feeling much better today. She was able to get back to her routines and eat her normal amounts.

Well it looks like no baby today! I guess it is going to be like my SIL and DH, they are not known for being on time for things (it drives me and my BIL crazy!!)

So today I decided to have a day off school work as I have not had a break yet during my supposed week off!! So today I have been a total slob!! Watched daytime TV (I can't remember that last time I watched daytime TV!!), sorted out my Disney pins, read my new Disneyland Paris guide book that arrived this morning, got take out for dinner and am now sipping a glass of champagne!! Whooo!!

TLHB70, we do not have home school option in the UK where I am a teacher and I find it quite interesting. I apologise as I know nothing about it. Do you follow a set curriculum? I love learning about other countries education systems. I know the US systems and ours are quite different.

I follow the A Beka curriculum (https://www.abeka.com/ ). There are many different curriculums available for homeschool families, though. I was a teacher for 6 years before I started to homeschool. I taught 3rd grade for 4 years and 6th grade for 2 years. We found out that we were moving to Venezuela during my 6th year of teaching. At that time, my oldest DD was in kindergarten and my youngest DD was 2 years old. I had no idea what schools in Venezuela were like. I did know that there was a school for the expats, but I didn't know anyone attending. All I had to go on was the school's web site and what the company was telling us. I didn't want to go that route. So I decided to homeschool. I found out that I loved it, and I have been doing it ever since......even though we are now back in the states. A Beka is most like the curriculum I used while teaching in the public school system. It is like my teaching style, you know? My oldest DD is now in 7th grade. My youngest DD is in 4th grade. I am registered with the state as a homeschool family. My DDs do end of the grade standardized test just like all of the other students. I turn the scores and the attendance record in at the end of the year. We follow a typical school schedule. I start mid August most years. (If we have a fall Disney trip planned I may start a week or two sooner. I never start before August, though.) I take a week off for Thanksgiving. I take a week off for Christmas. Then we take a few days off for Easter/spring break. We start around 8:30 to 8:45 each morning. We take a 45 minute lunch break around 12:15. We typically finish our school day around 3:30. It is a full day!!! I teach the skills/lessons to my youngest DD first while my oldest DD does her seatwork (what is typically homework for public school kids, the book work). She skips the problems that she cannot work, the new skill that she doesn't understand. Many things she can do on her own, though, like review work, reading, etc. She works independently while I go through all of the 4th grade lessons. That normally takes us right to lunch time. Then after lunch I let my youngest DD do her seatwork/bookwork while I teach the lessons to oldest DD.
I do the field trips with our homeschool group. Not all of the members of the group use the same curriculum. A Beka is just the one that works best for our family.

This is going to be a pretty fast post today, because I have to get Stephanie to the hospital by 6:30am. She is having her surgery this morning, so today is going to be a long day :faint: (that's me being tired).

Even though this surgery should be a piece of cake, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, because she is still going under anestesia (sp?), and there is always a chance something could go wrong. I'm sure she'll be perfectly fine though.

Well, I gotta run and get ready to go
Have a good day everyone!!!

both of my kids used A Beka until they hit HS then they went to a public school. Great curriculum. Got them off to a great start.

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Good morning everyone. :wave2:
Slo, I will remember to pray for Stephanie this morning. Give us an update when you can.

Morning.. sorry I have been MIA but been busy ..

took Geoff college shopping over the weekend. Eric 's band was in a battle of the bands and they placed 2nd so they will play again.. but the area is VERY seedy.. the club is inbetween a Tatoo place and a 24 Girls available place.. YIKES!!! not a wonderful location.

Other news is that I am seriously job shopping.. last Friday they sent me a worksheet for the 2008 commission and it was a major decrease in commission % that translates into BIG $$$$ decrease in pay.. let see.. I have a JR in high school and will have to pay for college soon and DH works for Motorola and will be unemployed soon.. nope :sad2: not interested in a pay decrease.. so .. that is the news here.. gonna ketchup and be back..

Hi CMOM.. nice to see you again.. whats been happening at your end of the wood??

RRBB - wonderful pictures of Sophie.. she has grown so much since I last saw her..

with lots of Ice Cream theropy. :goodvibes

Still no news of the baby on the way, my poor SIL just wants it to be born now!!

TLHB70 Thanks for the info about homeschooling, very interesting. I wish I could do something like that. As you will soon learn from my posts I love teaching (I teach 4th and 5th grade at the moment) but hate my job!!

Slo How did Stephanie get on at the hospital? I hope she is recovering quickly!!

Geffric congratulations on Eric's band doing well in the competition. I did a few battle of the band competitions in my teenage years, although I suspect mine might have been a different genre of music! What type of band does he play in? Mine was more classical music/wind band rather than pop/rock! We did win a TV show through!!

Everyone else, Hi!!

Well our best friends will be here for dinner in about 10 minutes so I guess I should go and set the table! Have a great evening everyone.

 Slo--- I hope that Stephanie's proceeded okay and she has a quick recovery.

:wizard: Some job pd for Danauk, Geffric, and anyone else needing it.:wizard:

:wizard: I guess that the various Moms need extra, extra pd for them and their kids.

Danauk, I hope that you become an aunt this weekend. I have about 4.25 months to go for my Sister's due date in early July.
