5 days til we leave for the Promised Land! :rotfl: That's also the time when Ernesto is supposed to be in the Gulf :furious: Do you think he will impact Orlando?!?!

Of course, when we schedule our Labor Day annual trip, we always know there's a risk of hurricane activity. Just curious if any hurricane veterans can give me some insight.

Thanks.

BTW... sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. Wasn't quite sure where it should go!

It is supposed to hit US land on Wednesday, and did not look to be targeting Florida, possibly the panhandle, but not the rest of the state. They are worried about Texas and Louisiana it looks like.

As of this morning it is turning a bit towards Florida, but I still think it will be a rain event for WDW. Bring some good ponchos and you will be fine. We land on wednesday so should be on the ground before anything happens, I hope...see ya there....

We saw the new projected path as well this morning. What does WDW do when hurricanes hit? Do you think it will "just be rain"? Will it even be worth it to hit the parks!? I thought about doing Disney Quest one day, but I'm assuming everone else will have that idea too.

We're considering rescheduling, but my husband's a band director and every weekend from post-Labor Day to Thanksgiving is full :sad2:

Man... we've been looking forward to this for so long, I'd hate to tell the DS6 that we can't go this week.

Any other thoughts? I love to hear what everyone thinks, especially those with hurricane experience!

We leave in the morning, and I am worried about this hurricane. :sad2: I'm hoping all this will mean to us at WDW if the storm comes through is a day stuck in our rooms? We don't fly home until Labor Day.

Most of the resorts try and and have some sort of activities for the people staying there. I was at the WL for 2 of the 3 hurricanes in '04, and it was a blast. I have to say, I'd much rather be at Disney during a hurricane than at home :rotfl2:

I'm worried too as we were driving earling Friday morning to get an early check in and ahead at the parks but now I'm concerned and hate to reschedule...It took me forever to convince hubby for this trip :guilty:

It looks like Ernesto will be heading out of FL by Friday. You should be fine, WDWFun. I'm concerned because we are driving down from Indiana and are scheduled to arrive late Thursday morning... right when this hurricane is supposed to be over central FL :furious:

I'd rather be at Disney than home any day.. except that I'm from Indiana and have never been anywhere CLOSE to a hurricane in my whole life!! I'm just a bit weary, that's all! :worried:

Tornados are much worse than hurricanes. Hurricanes might last longer, but once they get to central FL they are normally just a LOT of rain. The winds are rough however, so I might suggest trying to arrive early in the AM on Thursday if possible. Once the storm gets on land, they will normally close all roads and have cops keeping people from driving. You might even try and come a day early if possible.

As you can see on the new track, it's going to be on land for quite a bit, and we'll probably only get the east side of the storm. Some people consider the east side the worst, because you get the most rain, but we should be pretty far from the eye (unless it curves further east :sad2: )

This Sept. will be our 4th trip during Hurricane Season. Luckily, we have missed getting a hurricane everytime (knock wood!) The closest we came was Sept. 04. We arrived just after Frances and left the day Ivan hit the panhandle. As you can imagine, I kept a close eye on the hurricanes path(s) and what people at Disney were experiencing. From everything I read, I too, would rather been at Disney during a hurricane than anywhere else. As long as there isn't a hurricane in Orlando on my arrival and departure days, then I'm okay with it.

In 2004 we would have been happy to have to stay an extra day or two, if Ivan swung our way. But it didn't. So we went home on time. If I remember correctly, Hurricane Charley was the first one to hit Orlando in years. They usually miss it.

I'm crossing my fingers that Ernesto dosen't hit Florida hard (or at all) for all of you going in the next week and I'm doubly crossing my fingers that there won't be another one coming behind him. :thumbsup2

I have friends in the Keys, the Panhandle, Tampa and Orlando - and they are all keeping a close watch on Ernesto. Right now, Tampa looks to get hit the worst but by Monday morning the projected storm path should be pretty accurate.

A big prayer sent out to all those living in the path :grouphug: and WDW visitors might want to pack an extra poncho.

I just heard that visitors and non-residents of the Keys are in a mandatory evacuation starting today @ 1pm...I'm too crossing my fingers that it keeps away from everyone..We're still headed to WDW on Thursday though.

Today he became a tropical depression. I have lived on the Jersey Shore for the last decade, these warnings come and go. Once a storm hits land, all bets are off. Reading posts from those who have been at WDW during a hurricane have reassured me that Disney is the place to be!

However, in light of last August, I appreciate the importance and strength of all hurricanes and never will make light of the season. :sad1:

Local 6 news (Orlando) shows tonight at 11 :guilty: :

The latest projected path of Ernesto shows the storm strengthening into a Category 1 hurricane after leaving Cuba and making landfall in Florida on Wednesday, according to Local 6 meteorologist Tom Sorrells.

The storm is expected to come across Cuba and it could come out as not much, Sorrells said. However, on its current path the storm would move through Central Florida.

"The problematic thing about this is it is starting to knife through Central Florida with some pretty damaging winds," Sorrells said. "This storm is a weird one. It is hard to forecast."

Good luck to both tourists & other FL Res like us! We need some major pixie dust to get old "Ernie" to turn and stay out at sea and blow itself out! :goodvibes

Bleuberry, where are you staying this weekend?

Hi...we will be Pop Century..I know you asked earlier in this thread. I hope it goes well for you on your drive down. I am very familiar with that area, we were stationed at Fort Knox KY for years and drove down many times along the same route you will probably be taking....have a safe trip
