Epic Universe food pics

@tony67 great honest reviews. It has me a bit bummed for our future trip meals but good to know nonetheless.
Thanks - and as I said - don't go by me - I am tough on this stuff because I make a lot of it at home and I may expect too much.

I suspect it will get better - you never go to a new restaurant in the first month of operations - its going to have issues.

That said its not cheap - so keep an eye out for other reviewers as things go on - maybe order one thing and split it and see how it is - you can always order more.

One reason I wanted to post my views on the stuff and was tough on it is the way the influencers are talking the food is it's all amazing - best thing they ever had- and I had very high expectations going in.

The bottom line for me is I can see the potential and as I said in one of my other posts it is going to be Epic eventually.

K - last of my food pix are from Helios.
I had two night booked here and I canceled the second one.
Yes the view is cool - no doubt - go have a drink and move on IMO.
The bar is good - but not as impressive as I was expecting.

I had the fried halloumi and it was very good - just be careful with the chili pepper - I like very spicy things but that really hit me for some reason
PXL_20250505_204426403.jpg

I also had the Pork Belly - its was good - but not great.
PXL_20250505_203031639.jpg

I also tried several drinks - the Athenian Milk Punch was very good - its very odd as well - it takes 72 hours to make it and comes out clear as water - so part of the reason its $26 its very time intensive. I had 2 of them - yeah I know.

I tried several other drinks as well and they were all good.
I was looking forward to the one that is garnished with Feta and they put fresh cracked pepper on it - I don't know the name - maybe "Clash of the Titans" - but the bartender did not recommend it and said it was coming off the menu. Does not seem right to me but we will see.

So why did I not go a second night - its a bit pricy - so for me it was worth doing once but I wont be back.
$24 for 6 wings does not sit right with me.
Maybe just get a beer and relax - but Atlantic is probably better for that - and of course Blue Dragon will be coming soon.
I was also hungry after spending 200+ and had to go to Vivo for a pizza. (yeah I really like Vivo)

I hope a Kowalski bakery will go in there.
That would one of the absolute best things they could add.
I wouldn't mind buying those as toys. Hurry up and mass produce them now! 🤣
In things I didn't realize I wanted/needed to exist: toy versions of the creature shaped baked goods. Clearly there needs to Kowalski's bakery with less elaborate/more basic versions of what is in the window and a toy store/gift shop section.

All I got so far.
Recommend L'air DeLa Sirene as the food was pretty good.
We had a croissant, cinnamon roll, creme brullee and split a chicken dish.
BBQ at Oak and Star tavern was forgettable.View attachment 960913View attachment 960914View attachment 960915View attachment 960916
So how was the Creme Brule?

One thing I don't understand is how they don't have a butter beer Crème Brûlée.
I am not a big butter beer as a drink fan, and I did not even try the crepes, but I would have tried a Crème Brûlée no doubt.

Maybe butter beer overload - but people seem to really like it.

I’m not the OP but we really enjoyed the crème brûlée. For a theme park crème brûlée we were very pleasantly surprised. It was just slightly cool, not chilled and had a perfect crunchy topping that had the classic burnt sugar taste. We thought the $6.99 price tag (before AP discount) was a fair cost for this dessert.

As I posted above, we also had the Butterbeer crepe which was wonderful as well but some in our party said the crème brûlée was a more delicious choice.

Not DJ, but we thought the crème brûlée tasted overly manufactured and more like a rubber texture than what a good crème brûlée should be.

The sugar didn’t crack and it was not deep at all, very disappointing as that is one of my favourite desserts. It wasn’t expensive, that should have told us it wasn’t good. It’s a dish that doesn’t lend itself to be mass produced and should be made fresh, which this clearly wasn’t.

The crepes were not good either. But we enjoyed our entree here, desserts not so much.

Edited to add, the whole brûlée was not deep, it wasn’t just the so called burnt sugar that was thin. I popped the spoon in expecting it to be much deeper, sadly not.

Thanks that is almost exactly what the couple next to me had to say - there was not that layer of caramelized sugar you need to break through - so no satisfying crack with the spoon.

From what I had seen on the crepes they were more thick like pancakes - so I was not even going to bother. I had already been influenced into trying the crepes in studios and they were disappointing - so they were not going to get me again.

We must’ve lucked out. Our topping we definitely had to crack through. I would’ve been very disappointed if it was a soft thin layer on top.

Going back to The Bratwurst from Le Gobelet Noir - so was watching RixFlix and he was pretty unhappy with it as well.
His wife got the corned beef sandwich and was raving about it - Ill take that with a grain of salt - but - I had seen people get it when I was there and it did look really good. It was something I had planned to go back to and did not get the chance.

If anyone has a photo or comments on it that would be good - but again it looked pretty decent.

It was good for a high volume QS. Vanilla was present. Creamy, not eggs. Thin crust.

Chicken & waffles from Meteor Astropub. This was good! Fries hot, cooked nicely, & properly salty too.

"Crispy buttermilk chicken thigh, whiskey bacon jam, spiced maple syrup, liege waffle."

That does look pretty good - I did not stop in here is it app order or is it full service?
I was tempted to go in one of the days- but had a long list of themed stuff to try - will do this next time.

It's like the HP restaurants or Thunder Falls, you mobile order from your table. Or can order from a human, we did that because you couldn't make modifications via mobile orders.

Then they bring your food & bus the table after.

Just wanted to give my honest opinion of my experience with the food after my recent visit to Epic Universe.

I sampled some of the foods from various themed restaurants at Epic Universe and on a number of occasions I was disappointed in the food I was served.

I will give the influencers a pass on their food experiences as maybe on their visits to the various restaurants their experiences were vastly different from mine.

There is without a doubt an issue with quality control with the food coming from the kitchen to the table.

There needs to be consistency in the product ie….food you are sending to the table.

Food is one thing I’am not willing to give a pass on even if you are a new restaurant.

The kinks should have been worked out before you open to serve food to the paying costumer.

I come from era that when someone comes in and uses their hard earned money to buy your product, they should get what they are paying for and sadly this was not the case on a number of occasions.

The theming of the restaurants are phenomenal. So incredible to anything I have experienced in the past at a theme park. Hats off to Universal.

Here goes the food

The Garlic Stake I had from Burning Blade was good. It was slightly crispy on the outside and had the nice soft center of a good pretzel. It was seasoned well and although I tried the dipping sauce the pretzel did not need it.
IMG_4319.jpeg

The Forager salad from Das Stakehouse. The mushrooms in the salad were mushy. The acorn squash was cold and wilted and dry to the point it could not be cut.
The staked chicken was cold and the salad was drowned in the dressing. If you enlarge the picture you can see the dressing dripping off the lettuce. After a couple of bites I had a sweet vinegar after taste in my mouth and I was done.

I had ordered a side of fries and while they had a good flavor they were lukewarm.
IMG_4365.jpeg

At pizza Moon I ordered the Rigatoni Meteor Melt with homemade meatballs.

The pasta serving is small and thats ok with me. What was not ok was the dish was served to me dry as bone. I had to ask a passing serving if he could be kind enough to get me a little more sauce to put on top.

He told a lady who I’am guessing was the manager in charge of the servers and I heard her tell him she would do it, but she never did. When that nice young man passed me again he saw that I had not received the sauce he went and got it for me.

After adding the sauce and doing a little mixing it was very good. The sauce they created is delicious. They need to use that sauce on their food to their advantage. The meatballs were very good and tender.
IMG_4490.jpeg

I also, as someone posted above saw a lot of uneaten pasta and a significant amount of leftover pizza on the tables next to me. Some of the pizzas appeared evenly cooked and some burnt.

Next up Cafe L’air De La Sirene-The Baguette Ratatouille Provencale-roasted tomatoes, zucchini, squash, eggplant, topped with picked red onion and arugula, drizzled with basil piston served on a warm crusty baguette.

This sandwhich was a mess. There were not enough vegetables spread out on the baguette and the baguette was cold and hard. I thought I had cracked a tooth after the first bite. I took the top off to at least see if the bottom of the baguette was any better. I was able to take a bite of the bottom of the baguette and the vegetables. It was tasteless and cold as were the fries. It took forever to get the food and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant.

I also ordered the Crème Brûlée and it was also tasteless and mushy. I was expecting the lovely crunchy top sugar layer and the creamy flavorful custard.
IMG_4673.jpeg

The only thing I enjoyed here was the beautiful interior decor of the restaurant and the lemonade.

Like the poster above I ordered some barbecue at the Oak & Star Tavern. This is a beautiful restaurant. They had opened the restaurant 3 hours late do to an event that was being held there the day I visited.

Then when they opened it back up to park guests we were all herded into the seating area in the bar area and on outside patio that soon was overflowing with people.

It does not specify on the menu that you get the little mini mango loaf included with your meat platter. So I too ordered a side of the mango bread. So don’t make that mistake.

I had heard about the 14 hour smoked brisket and was looking forward to trying it. I had the two meat platter. I had the slow smoked brisket and the pulled pork and chose the fries as my side. The platter also comes with the pickles. There are various barbecue sauces provided on the table to sample with your meats. This is a very nice touch and the sauces were nice.

The meal arrived Lukewarm. The pulled pork was very good, but the brisket was tuff, chewy and hard to cut even with the provided knife. The fries were lukewarm and surprising the mango bread even though it was cold was the star of the show.

I had the buffet breakfast at Flora Taverna and it was very good. I had the best fluffy made to order omelet ever. They had nice fresh ingredients to choose from and the other options on the buffet were good. Service was very attentive and there was plenty to choose from off the buffet.

I realize on any given day and time as the food is being prepared and served there can be different experiences with the various foods.

That being said, no matter what time you order your food there is no excuse for subpar food to be served to a paying customer.

The servers at the various restaurants I visited were very nice and were very busy. They were running their legs off to get the food out to the diners. They were wonderful.

There has to be some increased quality control on the food that is leaving the kitchen.

I hope with honest feedback, the restaurants at Epic that are having issues can perfect the problems with their food so everyone can enjoy consistent, quality food when they visit.

Did the food situation ruin my visit to Epic Universe, absolutely not. I had a wonderful time and I will be back, but a better experience with the food I tried would have been the cherry on the cupcake so to speak.

Sorry to hear that - sadly it looks like it was not just me being overly critical.... (misery loves company ;) )

I do give the influencers a pass as well for the most part - especially with ones I have gotten good recommendations from in the past - and I may joke with some of them when I see them in the parks - but I also think their experience with half as many people would be very different.

The TMs are working really hard and I am sure the back of the house is as well - they have some work to do for consistency - and they will get there.

Again - very few restaurants can just open and be 100%, but 50% would be nice.

One last thing - and I sort of say this way too much - too much is focused on a good photo over taste.
I recent article from a non theme park person about comcast as a investment said a similar thing - " Everything looked great, but the push to make everything Instagram-able has its setbacks." but for a different reason. He was talking more about picky eaters. The was Motley Fool if anyone cares - I am not a big fan of their investment advice, but it was a different angle on things.

I did’nt think I was being overly critical at all. Just honest about my experience with the food I purchased, some good some bad.

When I was younger many years ago I worked in the food Industry. As a cook and waitress. It is a tuff job.

As I said above, sending out subpar food is unacceptable. It is the job of the manager to make sure the product coming out of the kitchen is consistently good.

Theme park restaurants have a unique position in the food industry.

For instance if a new local restaurant served subpar food the local folks would probably give them a couple of tries and if it continued to be bad the people would stop coming and the business would close.

A theme park restaurant will get thousands of vacationers to visit and even if the food is subpar people will still come. The ones that have been there and had bad experiences will just not come back. The new ones will come and have bad experience and not come back and will be replaced by the next vacationer. Is that right no……but that is the way it is.

Just saying, that if folks do not give their honest opinion of their experience then nothing will be done to fix the issue.

The idea is when you spend your hard earned money on a nice vacation you expect to get good food. Not 50% not 75%, but 100% good quality.

I know Universal reads the reviews on their hotels and restaurants. They are very good at addressing issues.

I want to see those beautiful themed restaurants succeed and hopefully they will.

I’am looking forward to going back to Epic and while I’am there, I will try some of the other restaurants,
