epcot phone booths not working

tried calling the phone booths while at rose & crown,
only got a recording that the number is not a listed number :(

they were working last week, & had a nice time calling the booths. I usually asked what their favorite part of the day was, & most answered talking on the phone!:)

That's funny

Nothing to do with Epcot, but while we were waiting for our table at Brown Derby there was a character who came in and was goofing around (he's a Hollywood agent) when he heard the payphones near the bathroom ringing. He said that someone was calling to ask what their soup of the day was. Now first I thought he was still goofing, but he looked truly confused, and the CMs answered him when he asked them about the soup, and he went back to the phone and told the person the answer. He looked REALLY confused, and kept saying that he'd never known those phones to ring, and how would someone know the number, and he went back to the phones to look at them, and he just kept talking about how weird it was.

I kept thinking "when I get back to the Dis I just know someone will report having called the Brown Derby to ask that question!"

Anyone here do it? :)

I tried calling all 3 numbers last week and couldn't get through. I kept getting a recording that the phone wasn't a working number. My husband and I were sitting on a bench outside of Rosé and Crown. I know they worked last year because, we did the same thing.

Same here, last week. My girls were checking out the booths and I slipped off to the side thinking I could call them but it wouldn't go through. Until I saw this thread I just assumed I had the numbers wrong.

My friend is going tomorrow and will text when she is ready for me to call. I will report back as long as she remembers :)

Here is her report from this afternoon:

Looks like they took the receivers out but the dial part is still there. So all for show now.

I didn't do it but I think that's really funny. :rotfl:

I wonder what happened. My guess is it probably was some obscene prank calling. One bad apple...

Wait, people are calling strangers on a pay phone:confused3? Does anyone else find this bizarre?

Sigh. Too bad. I had great fun 2 years ago calling while my daughter and her friend posed for pictures. I admit I have called a few other times to ask if they've sold out of fish and chips or if the Queen Mum is in residence.

my guess is one of two things has happened:
Either someone stepped over the line and they got complaints, or
part of a cost reduction plan to turn off pay phones.

Just called all 3 in UK..no luck, but someone did pick up in Canada:thumbsup2

Bummer! :( This was definitely one of our favorite things. Sorry to hear this has happened.

I always wondered when disney would kill the phones, no need for them. You figure at one point in time they where used all the time.

I just called the Canada-Phone to try this....guess who picked up the phone

I think it was a TOUR GROUP!
The only thing that I could hear was chanting..

:lmao::lmao:

We do too, though we only call the booths when we're actually in the park and wanting to speak with unsuspecting members of our party. It is somewhat bizarre and creepy that people would choose to call from home to talk with strangers in the park. If my teenage daughter picked up the phone and it was a stranger calling from outside the park, I certainly wouldn't want her to talk with them regardless of how innocent they might be.

Well, umm, then why would she answer a public phone, if you would think it was creepy? No one HAS to answer it. Would you expect her to know who was calling? :confused3
