***Epcot Food And Wine Festival Info 2008***

I'd say no to shorts, nice jeans, chinos or a skirt are good. I've seen some really dressed up people, mostly not.

Can I ask another question about PFTS... I haven't seen mentioned (of course w/as many pages as there are I may have missed it).

How formal, or not, is the event? Should I pack a dress/skirt for that evening? Or can we get by in our shorts/jeans at the event?

Thanks in advance for any info. someone has on this.

HI!
The event is posted as resort casual and they ask for no shorts, tank tops , bathing attire or flip flops. You will see people who haven't followed this but most people dress up from what you would at the park all day. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to post that my husband (who is now more impatient then I am) called the DDE today to ask why if something was sent out on the 14th that no one has seen it yet. She said well it's been sent, some people have got it by now and if we had not that it would be on the web Friday. He then asked if they could fax a copy of what went out and she said NO!

ALL RIGHTY THEN!:headache:

That's just perfect.

We haven't received anything and I don't expect to until next week when all this will finally be over. I'm still steaming over the post from someone (and I'm sorry I don't remember who it was) who said that the staff at V&A knew about their November signature dinner back in May. :headache:

As far as I'm concerned there's no excuse for sitting on the information this long. What purpose does it serve? At the moment all it's done is make the person in this family who makes the final vacation decisions verrrrry annoyed.

It's also made me have to turn off my cell phone during the day... Cause all I was doing was answering calls from Jason.. " is the mail here?" NO! "did the DDE come" NO! "have you heard anything new?" NO!!!!! UGHHHH!!!!!

We tried to explain that we are just trying to "get our drink on" - it fell on unsympathetic ears! If they wanted us to shut up and stop bothering them..hey here is an idea! GIVE US THE INFO!

This whole process is as baffling to me as questions that run through my head while sitting in rush hour traffic ... questions such as:

Is the plural of Lexus Lexi?
Why do people who live in St. Charles County brake while driving uphill?
Why is the word colonel pronounced ker-nel?
Isn't mailman redundant?

I spend a lot of time in my car. :rotfl2:

Well, I braved the mighty drizzle of TS Fay to see if there was anything from DDE in the mailbox!

Nothing. :(

That was me, and back then, we weren't told that it would specifically be a signature dinner, but I had a strong feeling given past history. The date was definitely known at the time, and I'm sure that's because the restaurant would need to hold off on any regular bookings for that night.

Also, for anyone wanting to book the V&A Signature dinner, I recommend you try and book it first. Aside from the fact that the restaurant doesn't hold too many people, I've also heard that some of the seats are held back and not given out for booking. Don't know how many seats will actually be available.

OMG, so you are going to eat all of that and then run 13K? Did I get that right? I'd be in a food coma! You're a better person than I! :cheer2:

We call it carb loading. :thumbsup2 I really had to think about whether or not we could do PFTS before the race....but....I finally came to MY senses. :rotfl:

For anyone that has been to either/both.....

I am trying to decide between "A Party for the Senses" or "The Cook, the Book, and the Bottle"

Does anyone have any opinions on which one might be better? TIA!:goodvibes

We did both last year and although they are very different venues, if I had to pick I'd say definitely the Party for the Senses.

We attended an Italian cheese tasting last year, and apparently, it was vastly improved from what they did the year before. We tasted 5 different cheeses, probably 3-4 ounces of each kind of cheese. We were full when we were through, and we're pretty big eaters. It is not something I would do again prior to attending PFTS. There were two wines to sample - a white and a red, also Italian. The presenter was Max McCalman, and he was a trip. We learned a great deal about wine and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Given the price, I don't know that it's something we would do at every festival, but I thought it was worth it to do it once.

We were at the same cheese tasting! I really enjoyed it and though Max was very very knowledgeable. He didn't beat around the bush, did he? We're planning on another cheese tasting this year.

My wife and I are going down to the F&WF totally by accident!
We will be there from Sept. 26th to Oct. 1st.

For a couple of people who have no clue about this event or what it entails,
does anyone have any suggestions as to how to experience it for the first time?

I have read most of the thread and some info about the different events and the kiosks and special bookings, but it seems so overwhelming to two inexperienced, first timers.

Our thoughts were to keep it simple and walk around and try food from the kiosks. Anything you think would be a MUST SEE?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Rob :)

OK well the Canadian stand has Cheddar Cheese soup that is fantastic

Don't miss the Sam Adams beer seminar if you like beer. Its really interesting.

Try and get to one of the concerts as well. They are usually good.

Other than that enjoy!

All good natured food complaining aside, I just wanted to send some good thoughts to all our DIS-friends in FL ... it's been a wacky weather week and we hope you're all safe and well. :goodvibes

Well, I guess all questions will be answered tomorrow but I noticed two things this morning:

1) The DIS reports that Bocuse d'Or is $425 per person while All Ears reports that it is $450 per person;

2) DIS reports that Vertical Wine Tastings will be held at CA Grill this year while All Ears reports that they will be held in the Wonders of Life pavilion at Epcot.

Very strange indeed ... :confused3

1) $450 per person plus tax gratuity is included is correct

2) Festival Welcome Center (Wonders of Life Pavilion) is the place

so Brenda, if it is 425 you will book it but if it is 450, you won't? Is that 25 bucks your point where it goes from being a good deal to unacceptable? :lmao: :rotfl2:

In all seriousness though, I don't think we're going to book anything this year :( I think the only thing I can possibly convince DH to do b/c of time/money constraints is the Italy F&W pairing, and he's not that thrilled b/c we can get good Italian food any time we want around here. I have to look and see if there are any reviews from years past to show him.

Are we looking at a no-cancellation policy again this year, by the way? I know it goes unsaid, but that really puts a damper on making plans immediately.

Edit: and hmm, thinking about it, I'll bet that the wineries at the Australia City Taste will be at the Party for the Senses the next day as well. That's a strike against it for us.

Unfortunately, yes. It seems they will be keeping with the non-refundable, non-transferable policy.
