I'll be teaching "Around the World" classes to 1st-5th graders (split in 2 groups) in the fall, and am wondering if there are some really good books at the individual country's pavilions. I had considered a series called "Look what came from" that was inexpensive, but I've read so many negative reviews, I am thinking of using our WDW trip to supply materials. Soooo, anybody know about books at epcot?! Thanks!

Every pavilion has books of some sort, although it differs from country to country. You can always find travel-oriented books -- travel guides, for example -- and can usually find great picture books or brochures. Some countries have books of stories about the country, and some have books about specific people or events (books about the Royal Family in UK, or about rug-making in Morocco, or wine making in France).

You could also get an Epcot passport and have it stamped at each country, with your name written in each country's language. That could be a fun "show and tell" item.

As you can tell from my name, we homeschool and have for 11 years now. WE LOVE EPCOT. The kids spend time looking at the books as much as I do. I don't usually find much in Mexico, lots in Norway, China is OK, German doesn't have much, Italy doesn't have much, US has tons, Japan has lots of books and my kids love them but it is more cultural, food, etc., Morocco doesn't have much; France doesn't have much; UK sometimes has some and Canada sometimes.

I love the idea of the Passport! I'll be incorporating something like that into the class anyway, so that will be cool to see an "actual" one with foreign spelling. I can show them my real one, but it only has Russia as we've not travelled out of the states otherwise.

Ah, a fellow homeschooler! While I can easily name 10 reasons to hs, vacationing when we want may top my list this time of year! I don't suppose you ever saw a book that might be the "work" of the class I'm teaching this next semester, did ya? I'm sure I'll incorporate my Sonlight stuff, but I'd love to have it all in one book this time. Oh well, thanks for the leads on which countries to plan extra time for.

I am on my daughters and I don't know how to change but...

No, I don't know of any one book. But then I have never found any one book to do what I want. I am lucky if I find one cirr.

I take my kids. Couldn't you schedule a field trip? I would help chaperone. I could even be a tour guide if you need one.:Pinkbounc
