Epcot boats - a question

When we were there a few weeks ago we discovered that the boats on the lagoon don't go around anymore. There was just a boat between UK/Canada and Morocco/Japan.

When did all the rest stop running? Or is it a seasonal thing?

My family and I were there during the second week of this past May and the boats were in service, perhaps they only run on weekends??? :/

They've never gone around. There are two paths of travel...both of which you mentioned in your post. I don't know if the new maps show it because I haven't looked at one in a while , but the old maps show a dotted line between docks where the boats travel.

But no other boats were running, just the one between those two points. I was surprised - it would have made our epcot time a bit more efficient. Mostly I'm just curious.

The boats don't go AROUND the lagoon... like you said they only travel from Morocco to the UK and then back to Morocco and then back to the UK. It is basically for those of us who like to rest our feet and not have to walk around the World showcase again. I am guessing that you may have thought the boat drove all around the entire lagoon. It does not. I hope that this answer is helpful?:)

But there used to be more boats and more stops. There was just 1 boat - none of the other ramps were being used and there were no other boats.

Sometimes they just run one route-either "World Showcase Plaza("Left dock") to Germany" or "World Showcase Plaza("right dock")" to Morocco".

Sounds like when you were there they were just running "World Showcase Plaza(right dock") to Morocco".

Both routes will be back running at some point.

There is a boat that sometimes runs between Germany (could be Italy) and Mexico but it doesn't run all the time. The one between Morocco and UK (closer to Canada) runs pretty much all day.

There has always been only 2 routes - there never was a full circuit of the Lagoon. Ever. We have been going to WDW since the early 80's and it has been this way.

I don't know what you experienced, but what is the norm is 2 boats with a total of 4 stops. Each 1 boat went between 2 stops on one side of the Lagoon. For example Mexico to Morocco.
They never went all the way around

How long has it been since your last trip? I have ridden an Epcot boat that went to both the Germany and Morocco stops, but only one FW stop, but it was many years ago, and was unusual at the time. We were fascinated about riding by the back of the American Gardens Theater. I probably have some photos in an old album somewhere. It was way before the digital photo days . . .

I think the last time we went to epcot was about 7-8 years ago. But I first went 25 years ago. And maybe I do remember it wrong but I know there are several boat landings on the lagoon and at one time they were all in use, even if they didn't "go around".

I was just surprised to see only 2 landings being used and only 1 boat on the lagoon.

"Normal" full operation is two simultaneous routes (see map below) :
1. Canada (A) >Morocco (B) >Canada (A) >Morocco (B) >
2. Mexico (C) >Germany (D) >Mexico (C) >Germany (D) >

However, with various crowd conditions and boat & staff issues…
The schedules can temporarily change and/or the routes can temporarily change.

Many times there will be only one set of docks in operation.
Sometimes they might change the route and which of the four docks will get service.
They can add or remove boats/routes as the situation requires.

Yes,it is Germany and actually, there are no Docks in Canada or Mexico.

There are 2 Docks in World Showcase Plaza-they are close to Mexico and Canada, but not actually in those Countries.

Once the fireworks are put into the lake/lagoon, it reduces to 1 boat and eventually no boats.

Ah, now this makes sense. They had moved platforms out into the lagoon. It was late afternoon when we wanted to boat across but they only had the one boat running.

Thanks! Now I see it just may have been a matter of timing.

Both routes can still be run when the IllumiNations barges are in World Showcase Lagoon.:)

The barges do not "block" either of the routes-World Showcase Plaza to Germany or World Showcase Plaza to Morocco.:)
