Epcot 8:40 pm ADR at Teppan Edo, Illuminations Question

If our party of 2 has an 8:40 pm Teppan Edo reservation and we are seated right away,
can we order a drink and then get up when Illuminations begins to go outside and watch until it is over?

Be sure to ask about this when you check in at the front desk.

It may be that they would arrange for you to hold seating until 9:15 (end of IllumiNations.)

Thank you. So, even if the park had closed, we can still begin eating our dinner. Have you done that before? I have never bothered reading threads where
others make ressies at closing time. Do they feel/are rushed?

I don't know if Teppan Edo will seat you and then let you get up and leave to watch IllumiNations because it is group seating around the cook top where the chef prepares meals for everyone at his table.

They might let you wait until after IllumiNations to be seated, but it depends on what time the restaurant stops seating (last reservation time). If the restaurant seats until 9:30 that evening, it would work, but if the last reservation is at 9:00 you will have to decide if you want dinner or see fireworks.

You can continue looking for an earlier reservation to be certain you'll be done early enough to find a spot around the lagoon for IllumiNations or a reservation after fireworks.

We've eaten at many DW restaurant after closing and we were never rushed out. It's a nice feeling to walk out of an Epcot restaurant to an empty park and walk around the WS lagoon.

I would suggest looking for another reservation time. As PP's have mentioned, you will be seated with others and it is a timed group dining event. They can't hold your seats at the table, hold up the others while you watch the fireworks or cook the dinner twice (they cook everyone's meal at one time). I would look for a 7:30/7:45 pm reservation or something around 9:15/9:30 pm.

I agree with the two previous posts. They chef cooks for all 8 people at the table at once, you can't expect them to hold up dinner for the other 6 while waiting for you. I would try for a 7:30 ADR.

By the way, Teppan Edo is one of our favorite restaurants, we go there on every trip and have never had a bad meal or server. You'll definitely enjoy it.

While Teppan Edo might not be the same as a local teppanyaki restaurant, have you been able to get up and leave part way through dinner at TE to view IllumiNations or know if this is a common occurrence? I cannot imagine they would like this since it is a group seating and dining experience where the Chef cooks for every one at the table. The flow of guests is based on everyone finishing at about the same time so the next set of 8 guests can be seated.

It would be more likely, but not certain, that they would delay seating until after IllumiNations, but only if the restaurant is still open or willing to seat someone 45 minutes late. If it is an evening when the closing time is listed as 9 PM they probably would not seat after fireworks.

Waiting until the night of the reservation to see whether TE will accommodate the OP's desire to see IllumiNations and also have dinner would be a last resort because the restaurant could easily say no and then the OP would have to decide which is more important. If the OP wants to do both it would be better to keep looking for an earlier reservation or a later one if TE is open until 9:30.
