after all my pondering over which camera to get, last weekend made up my mind. we were at a gymnastics comp.

I brought my compact ( lumix which I use to video) and my dslr.
i took some action shots with the dslr which did not come out that great, and I did video of everything else. my dd said she likes to see herself on video, she wants me to video all routines, sooooooo
I am going to get a compact camera with good zoom and good vid capabilities. I am thinking now the Lumix FZ200 again.

That's a good choice. Just about every decent camera has almost equally good video these days (they all take high definition video, and many like the RX100 and others, allow video and photos at the same time). But zoom is widely variable between cameras... The FZ200 has a lot of zoom with a fast lens.
