Engraved Bricks?

I love the DISboards and have been reading them faithfully several times a day.
I just wanted to share our story of how the Disney Magic has already touched my DH, DD and me and we do not arrive for another 21 days.

In May, my in-laws were both killed in a horrible car accident. My father-in-law had a stroke and slammed into a utility pole. Thank goodness no one else was hurt.
We had not seen them in over a year and had made grand plans to visit the following week. We talked to them several times a week and they were so excited to see their only granddaughter again. We rushed to NY and buried them both in a double funeral. We tried to get their affairs in order as best we could but had to return home after a long stay in NY. My husband is the oldest and things fell on him, of course. It was a very hard summer for him and my DD.

One thing I never knew was that they took all of their other grandchildren (our nephews) to WDW when they were six. These boys are all men now as my husband started his family late in life. My husband decided with the small inheritance we received would take our DD to WDW for her sixth birthday. We really understood the uncertainty of life after the accident.

I am sure we should have put the money into savings but instead we are staying 7 nights at the POP with the Dining Plan. The planning of this trip has been such a distraction of the tragedy for all of us. My DH and I are always on the boards looking for great ideas and reviews. Thanks to all of the DISers.

I do have a question after this long post-
Can you still have a brick engraved with names around Bay Lake. I think it would be a nice thing to do in memory of my DH’s parents.

Take care-
Amy

Last time at WDW 1995
DH and DD have never been.

WDW stopped selling the bricks about the time Leave a Legacy tiles started to be sold at Epcot.

I am sorry to hear about your in-laws. My mom passes away in Jan and my family(DH,DS, and 2 DD's) had been planning a trip to WDW in May. My mom never got to go to Epcot, she had been sick for some time. Our first night we went to Epcot and all I could think was how much fun she would have had. I gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I hope you all have fun.

First of all, I am so sorry for your family's loss Amy.

The Epcot leave a legacy is an engraved picture. I haven't done it but I believe you stand in front of a screen and it engraves your image. Maybe they could do something and engrave the image of your in-laws from a picture if you wanted something like that. I don't know. It's worth asking.

I hope you have a wonderful trip. All the best to you and your family,

Lisa

We just left a legacy just a few days ago - you have the choice of putting your picture on it or you can also do text! I hope this helps.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Hi Amy -
Details on Leave a Legacy can be found at the following links:

My husband and I have done it twice once on our honeymoon, and last year on our five year anniversary. You have your photo taken ,then it is engraved on a metal plate and placed on granite structures in Epcot. It is pretty neat. I also think you can have one that just uses words, so you could do it as a dedication to your in-laws.

Hope this is helpful. And have a blast when you visit! :earsgirl:

Thanks everyone. We are so excited it is practically all we talk about.

I like the idea of the text on the Epcot wall.

My in-laws were too frail to have taken our daughter but they certainly believed in the magic and wanted us to go.

My Mom and I went on several trips together to WDW, we loved it and it was very special time togethr. She passed away 3 years ago and the next time my husband and I went to WDW we did a tile dedicated to her. We're going in December so it will be the first time we can see it, I've already warned my husband I'll probably be a crying mess. This will be the first trip with our daughter who's almost one and I plan to do a new tile for her.

I don't know but I am so touched by your story. Disney has so many stories . ..
