Don't have one, my husband is European (portugal) and laughed at the idea of having to purchase an engagement ring. They purchase some thing the couple needs to start their married life, in our case, a townhouse.

Not to try and start an argument here...but why is that size funny to you? Unless I'm missing the "joke" in here. :confused3

Because he thought it was "big". I think it is funny that anyone would consider 1/4 carat "big".;)

My engagement ring is also my wedding band, a plain gold band, with no gems. I was 16 when we got engaged and 18 when we married so finances didn´t allow much else. On the morning after our wedding DH gave me a gold/platinum ring with a tiny diamond. He said we could upgrade it later, but I don´t want to. This is what we could afford at the time, and I wouldn´t feel we were true to "our" roots if I had it altered now.

On our 10 year anniversary, DH gave me a beautiful diamond ring with 28 diamonds. Can´t remember how many carats it is though. I love it! And him ;)

Mine is .72 carats and close to perfect. Don't feel like looking for the sheet of paper downstairs. Solitaire Tiffany platinum setting.

I also have DM that she gave me. It is over a carat and perfect, but I am afraid to wear it.

Mine is just under .5 carats, it was my husband's grandmother's diamond...he had it re-set. I love it.

Mine is .25 carat. It's what we could afford when we were married 23 years ago. Over the years, my DH has given me a diamond bracelet, a diamond necklace, and a diamond "yesterday, today, tomorrow" necklace. This ring has been on my finger since we were married and I wouldn't replace it with anything else. What matters is that we are more in love today than we were when we first got married.

Someone has already made a comment about what my "future" engagement ring - probably why I am concerned/sensitive about wedding related topics. I don't want to even get into it, but basically in my area, if you don't have a 2 carat ring and a 40 k wedding, you'd better have thick skin, because you will be made fun of. It's a real shame. I could have all that if I went into business, but I'm a teacher because I want to do something good with my life.

You're right in that it doesn't matter what they think, but it does matter how they treat me. I did this thread as a poll, so I don't want to hijack, but this is probably for a different place/time. :grouphug:

It's funny that people would concern themselves with something that is truly none of their business. It's sad that your family and friends can make you feel bad about the size of a ring or the amount you will spend on your wedding. I guess I do have pretty THICK skin, because I'm sure there were a few comments about my wedding, but I never took the time to acknowledge them. We had a very, very small wedding at City Hall (just the way we wanted it) with brunch afterwards, and our first trip to WDW for our honeymoon. And the funny thing is that DH and I are the only ones that are still HAPPILY married of our peer group -- even the ones who had the $40K weddings and the HUGE engagement rings.

My ring is 1.5 carats but no HUGE ROCK! lol...I am a artsy person who does competitive ballroom dancing and really wanted something that went along with my unique style. My DF had it personally designed...its platinum and the diamond is crushed diamond specks ( I know there is some proper name for this but have no clue what it is)!!! The platinum ring makes a knot on top of my finger which signifies our two lives tying together to become one..the diamonds are all throughout the ring. Its really cool and everyone always comments on it...I love the thought he put into it and never want to change it :)

Here's a pic of mine...its .50 carats, and I don't think its small at all.

Mine's just under .75 - It's like.746 something. I just love it. But DF seems to think its too small, but I have small hands!! I'd never want anything else.

I agree. There are some huge rocks out there.

My engagement ring is the beautiful ring I think I've ever seen - unfortunately, DH is now my ex-DH. My ring sits in a jewelry box in the back of my dresser. My ring has a 2 carat marquise emerald that is close to flawless in the center with 1/2 carat marquise diamonds on each side, then channel set bagette diamonds on each side of the marquises. It is a truly stunning ring and it makes me sad to store it away.

My diamond is tiny. Microscopic. And I really don't care. I don't wear rings much anyway, and since I lost weight, I can't wear my wedding rings at all. Poor hubby probably thinks I'm having an affair or something....

My current engagement ring is a blue sappphire. DH and I are anti diamond. I have seen a few moissonite rings that I would love to have and have dropped a few hints. ;) Last year, DH bought me a "yesterday, today, tomorrow" necklace that was moissonite. It is beautiful. If I could speficially pick the carat size of the stone, I would like 3/4 carat.

I have no idea how big mine is. I am not very interested in jewelry at all, and my engagement and wedding rings are the only jewelry I wear and I mostly wear those because my husband wants me to.

The ring my husband gave me was a family "heirloom" - but it's not really old, from the 1920's I think. I assume it's real, I've never had it checked.

I keep telling dh how lucky he is that I don't care about jewelry - saves him a ton of money on gifts! But he says it's actually an inconvenience because then he has to think outside the box to get me a present.

We started looking for an engagement ring, and I just ended up not wanting one, so I just have a simple wedding band.

No engagement ring here. We bought a house and a car instead. Oh yeah, a washer and dryer too. I would not have it any other way.

I am not a jewelry type person. Since I lost so much weight that my wedding ring fell off one day I do not even wear that anymore. When I get done losing weight I might get another one, might not too. I am allergic to metal and it took me a long time to be able to wear the simple band I did wear.

Slightly Goofy

Mine is a bit less than 1/2 carat, but though it is over 20 years old it still shines like it did the day I got it! I still wear it, but now it is set with my family ring and I wear it on my right hand. I actually get alot of compliments about it!

Diamonds , diamonds , diamonds...I have a couple rings and I don't even like diamond! :rotfl:

My engagement ring is like 1/3 of a carat. However, it is princess cut, and stabbed my dh in his sleep so I don't wear it anymore.;)

My annivesary ring my dh got me last month is a 1/2 carat eternity ring.

My dm however has a HUGE 2 and 1/2 carat rock from her fiance this year..:faint:
