Enforcement of 14 yr old restriction

How would they enforce it? Kids don't carry ID, kids under 14 can be on the parks far from their parents. It would be nuts trying to make sure every 13ish kid was entering with a parent. They just wanted fewer parents using DL as a daycare center.

I think the easier way would be at the gate if they see unaccompanied kids they could ask their age and if they have MB they could scan that the age is usually in MDE.

Why would the CM be responsible? If they are supposed to ask proof of age, sure. It seems like WDW doesn't care if younger kids are there, since they don't police it at all. I see no harm.

If nothing happens, no harm no foul. If one of these kids gets hurt, I don't think Disney management will overlook the error in judgement, if got no other reason to cover themselves.

I think the parents would be blamed. If the employees aren't trained to check aged on entry, how could they be blamed?

I don't know if Disney does this but in the resort I used to work. We will get the handbook with all rules and polices. Each employee got one and had to sign that they receive it and that they will read and follow company policy.

But what is the policy? It's obviously not that they have to verify ages. And what if they did? What would prevent parents from leaving their 13 year olds in the parks? Nothing.

My 13 year old son navigated the parks at some point every day over Christmas this year by himself for several hours. He was never questioned! And... he got to ride all of the rides that me and my husband didn't want to !

I am not quibbling that this is enforced, I am saying that if the CM's were ever told to follow this rule, enforced or not....they are accountable. In a perfect world parents are always held accountable for their decisions and for their kids. W do not live in that world.

Where I worked as well. It was all fine and dandy if all was well, but if not......

the issue with enforcing is that they can't ask every kid at the front gate that looks around that age. So they ask certain kids that catch their eye. Can't tell if it could be the OP's kid or not, but if they DO ask and the kids say they are under 14, they won't be let in. May change in the future if anything disastrous happens to occur involving an unaccompanied kid under 14.

One it will put the responsibility on the CM. The policy is "Children under age 14 must be accompanied by a Guest age 14 or older to enter the following Walt Disney World parks and locations:

If you’re planning on some adults-only time at Walt Disney World Resort, we offer childcare service and Children's Activity Centers to provide you with the flexibility to enjoy your vacation as you wish.

Please Check Our Park Rules

We ask that you review our Walt Disney World Resort park rules before your visit to avoid any delays or disruptions. We regularly update our park rules to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience at Walt Disney World Resort."

So they can ask anyone to verify the age and provide proof of it and if not they can deny entry. They can also kick guest out of the park if they wish so the same way as asking proof. The policy is enforceable.

Since your kids are responsible I don't see any problems. If someone let their rotten brats who decided to act up go alone when underage I can see CM or security asking about parents and holding them until parents show up to take them out of park. That is really the only instance Disney would care I would imagine.
The problem is, every parent seems to think that their kids are responsible.

To be safe why don't you just ride over with them and enter the park and then go back to the poly.

It's Disney for Petes sake... what in the World could happen? It's not like any Disney security guards are into child pornography or a child predator or anything. Oh wait... happy late April Fools! Not the first Disney employee to be arrested for a similar charge.

‘Operation April’s Fools’ arrests 17 child predators

Among those arrested were a Walt Disney World Security Guard, a Discovery Cove theme park janitor, a technician at Florida Hospital, a football coach, an Alaska Airlines customer service manager who brought LSD and cocaine with him, according to investigators (see descriptions of each suspect in photos below).

There can be child predators everywhere. Does that mean that we lock up our kids until they are 18? No trips to the movies, the mall, field trips, going to a birthday party, no practices, school...

According to some replies on another thread about letting your kids go around the park alone, some people do seem to think that.

Yes, lock up your kids until they are 18. Obviously, you can't tell I was being funny.

You were being funny by posting a link to a the arrests of individuals involved in the child sex trade?

The rule is there for a reason, think worst case, not best case scenario... What if the kids were on a monorail that was stuck for hours, what if there was an evacuation in the park... Is a 10 year old equipped to handle that? Is it fair to ask a 13 year old to be in charge? I know there was a request for no flaming, but.... I am really surprised so many responses are comfortable with the scenario. I have a 10 year old. Maybe I will feel differently in 3 years.

My oldest started watching younger siblings at home when she was 12. The house could've caught fire, a break in could've occurred, the boiler could have broken, the water heater could have flooded the basement, a kid could have fallen down the stairs... There are what-ifs in ant scenario.

As for the monorail, the last person my kids need for comfort would be me - I'd freak out! Kind of like when we got lost in Camden NJ at night on a faulty GPS loop, and I told the kids we were all going to die.
