A bit earlier this evening, got an end of the month 'critical' from Windows. I think many here on the DIS have learned the hard way that not being up to date, in Windows' patches, anti-virus definitions and spy-ware definitions can be VERY costly, frustrating and damaging. Do yourself a favor, do the updates, before the night is over, takes only a few minutes to be current, safe.....

(further updated today) (and while on that page, maybe sign up for the email updates, there in the upper right.)

And also..........

Make sure you do your updates............

No offense but, the last time I took your advice and did an
update my Internet Explorer was disabled by the very upgrade
that was supposed to prevent it. Be very careful. My PC is
still down. We are using our laptop until we can back up and
reinstall XP. This update came right from Microsoft.

Yikes, Mimi!!! Wonder what was up with your PC. Hope you get it up and running soon. Maybe give Mozilla Firefox a look. I have used that and it seems to work fairly well, as a substitute for IE. Just a thought.

Here are a few additional links on the most current.

Thanks Dan! My computer normally gives me a message for critical updates, but I didn't see one. I have just updated, and ready to DIS.

Thanks Dan! I had 18 critical updates to install:eek:
I signed up for the email notification too.

Thanks Dan for taking care of those of us who are technically challenged!

Dan:

I've always wondered, is there a fee for those updates or are they free for Microsoft Windows users? I know, not doing the installs could be just as costly, but I'd just like to know how much of my budget would be going towards this. Thanks for your help!

As Laura said above, no charge. The updates are just patches or version improvements, not upgrades like 95to 98 or 98 to XP. It is part of the licensing agreement you have by owning Windows. And yes, the cost of NOT doing the updates could be loss of the use of your PC, data, or theft of data.
