End of Life Spending Changes.

Vacation, vacation, vacation! Already went through this scenario before. Luckily didn't have to put the plan into action. But would take a set amount of money & see how far & long that would take us to see the world. By having a set dollar amount I wouldn't feel guilty about leaving my family broke.
OP what would you do?

I'm the OP. Autoimmune disease runs in my family, and I have been having a lot of problems this year. Since I started this year in the ICU while my husband went home and waited for the call that I had died, which he assumed would come before sunrise, this is something that I have thought about.

I am not a real "stuff" sort of person. Stuff just clutters up the house until it gets thrown out in a couple of years. If I could spend any way that I chose, it would be on little trips. I don't see myself taking a grand tour of the world. In fact, I am amazed at the number of people who go to only Europe and try to squeeze it all in in a couple of weeks. That's too much. It would not be at all hard to spend a couple of weeks just doing nearly everything at Disney World.

If I stayed in northern California for my trip, I would take a ride on the Wine Train. I don't even drink and am still fascinated by that train and think that Napa and Sonoma are lovely areas. It has been years since I last went to the Wine Country, but I would probably be up there more if I could drive.

If I went to the southern part of the state, I would go to the San Diego Zoo. It sounds really wonderful.

I haven't the money, or even a passport, so international travel is not something that I see myself doing. However, I think that I might go to other states. I would like to take that train that goes through the Grand Canyon. Can you tell that I love trains?

Aww:hug: I wish you the best and hope they'll find some great therapies (drugs?) that will help you.

Also, as an FYI :

There isn't a train that *goes through* Grand Canyon. Nothing motorized is allowed in the canyon, just people and mules. :)

The Train leaves from Williams AZ and drops you off about 1/4 mile from the lodge, where you walk to see the Canyon. Its a fun train ride there, but many have agreed that the ride back - not so much.

You can definitely hike down *into* the canyon, and I recommend that; its a totally different experience. And if you call about 2 years in advance, you can ride a mule to the bottom of the canyon and stay overnight in Phantom Ranch. Haven't done that yet; can never plan vacations 2 years in advance (the amount of time you need to score a place)

Have you taken the train through the forest to the Santa Cruz beach and amumsement park? The name escapes me but we did it years ago when our first two were really little. Kinda cool!

This question really hits home for me. I am in really good health no diseases or illnesses at all, however I am obsessed with making sure that I have a death and funeral plan. No DH or Dk's but I don't want my parents to have to deal with any drama. I call it my Dead Book, it has all my insurance crap, passwords, DD214 (veteran), call lists, email addresses, bills, flower selection and funeral choices. I know kind of weird and creepy but it makes me feel better.

Now if I knew that I was going to die, I would sell or give away everything. House, personal effects, artwork, everything. There is nothing worse than the thought of my parents having to go through all my stuff. My mom would probably try to keep it all and become a hoarder. :rotfl2:

I would create amazing experiences for the people that I love. It is a short list so we would travel, do zipline tours, take a cruise, walk across fire, everything. So in short, my spending would change but it would be financed by my I'm dying yard sale.

Ya know the movie The Bucket List was just on this weekend, and my friend and I were having this same conversation. I don't think I'd do anything different. I have no desire to travel around. I'd just want to stay in my home with my family where I'm most comfortable. I wouldn't want to spend any money on my last wishes (which I don't have any anyway) because I'd want my family to have any money for them.
