We decided to do a trip down to FW the last week in Jan but much to our surprise, the campground is completely booked! We'll keep calling to see if we can get a cancellation, but if we can't, does anyone have any other suggestions? Other good campgrounds in the area or just general tips for scoring a site? Is FW normally booked solid during the end of Jan/beginning of Feb? We went a few years ago at that time and it was pretty quiet.

Kim, it seems to be the weekends that are the problem.

Using the Disney reservation tool, I tried checking in Sunday Jan 25 and out Saturday Jan 31. Nothing available.

Then knowing that weekends fill up with the folks that are "in on Friday out on Sunday", I tried in on Monday Jan 26 and out Friday Jan 30 and got availability for Tent and Full sites (Preferred and Premiums nothing available).

Don't know what level of site you wanted but maybe you could take what you can get with a Full (those are loops 1600-1900) then keep trying to get a cancellation for those missing hard-to-get days.

Late January and early February is nice crisp weather with sunny days usually and cool nights. On a side note, the easywdw touring calendar shows the theme park crowds as a "1" on Wednesday Jan 28 with the Magic Kingdom as the best park to go to. I would LOVE to be in the MK on a "1" day. Can't even imagine what it would be like. http://www.easywdw.com/category/calendar/01-january-2015-crowd-calendar/

Good luck!

Bama Ed

PS - I know other days, mostly in the fall, have a "1" on the crowd calendar but they tend to be on event days like the Halloween and Christmas separate ticket events. 1/28 is one of the rare plain ol' low crowd days.

Thanks bama_ed! We ended up switching weeks to the following week (we have to be there on Feb 5 for homeschool days seminar, but other than that could go on either end of that date.) They had premium sites and we're booked and can't wait!

Dear Ed,
I was at MK on 1/26/14 which was the last Wednesday of the month last January. It was a crowd level 1 on the calendars. It was cold and rainy. It was the best day at MK EVER! Here is what it looked like

OP- hope you get your campsite!

Just want to add- these pictures were taken around noon on that day.

ruthies12, thanks for the pictures.

Now THAT'S what I was talking about. Wish I could have a day at the MK like that (I'd even take the rain if I could get a "1" day).

If the OP Kim is going first week of February those days range from a 2 to a 5 so here's hoping she has no lines to wait in for the E-ticket rides. :thumbsup2

We were there that day too Ruthie :)
It was a grand day to by at MK regardless of the rail fall.

It rained a lot that week and we ended up extending our vacation several days to make up for all that rain. We are headed down soon and looking forward to that last Wednesday (1) again!!! Perfect!

Although they are calling for several rainy days towards end on January. I sure hope it stays minimal....otherwise I'm going to have to "add a day"!!!lol.

That was my favorite little phrase last trip. Forecast calls for rain?!?! Well then just "add a day".

20 days..........

Wow - those pictures are great! Thank you for sharing them! I wish that week had worked out. DH would have been thrilled! We usually go to the fort in Sept, and it's pretty quiet then too, but not quite like that. I'm ok with rain if it keeps crowds down!
