Encouraging baby to stand/walk?

I have an exer saucer it hasn't really helped. I wasn't going to get a walker I have heard bad things about them as well. She stands in the exer saucer but when she tries to stand on her own her legs only hold her for alittle bit. She is getting better at trying it but she doesn't stand for long.

She sucks her thumb so her hand is constantly in her mouth that is why I don't want her crawling on a strange floor.

One thing you can try to help her in standing is standing her up next to a wall. My nephew did therapy and this was one thing they did to help him with standing & walking.

Just stand her next to the wall, back leaning on it, and place her feet away from the wall a little bit -- she will be able to stand and strengthen her muscles. She will most likely try to take some steps like this as well. It worked for him and both of my kids

This is my issue too. I don't want her hands or toys in his mouth that have been on the floor. People walk around in those rooms w/their shoes on that have been who knows where. Plus, I'm sure other stuff has been spilled or dropped on the floor that I wouldn't even imagine. It's not like the carpets are cleaned often. Vacuumed yes, cleaned no. I don't let my 4 yr old sit on hotel floors either.

my boy is almost 8 months and he's been enjoying his walker for a few weeks now. all he wanted to do was stand. he was bored with the jumperoo, so we got a walker. he's so much happier and even though he doesn't really walk, he's mobile and learning. he has mastered going backwards in it. LOL :rotfl2:

I got my son squeaky shoes online to encourage him to walk. he walked with in 2 days, he loved making the noise with the shoes. Whatever you do don't take them in public, they get really anooying, we only use ours at home and a few times when we went to the park. Soem poeple get ticked when they hear the constant squeaking. I went to pipsqueaks.com

I think those shoes are cute -- for a little while. LOL at your comment about not taking them in public. Also, don't send you child to preschool in them either. I had a child in my class that wore them at least once a week! I thought they were cute for the first 5 minutes and then I just wanted to take them off.

I can see your point but with good handwashing and supervision, I really don't see the harm in letting my DS crawl around a little bit. Sure, hotel floors are not the cleanest but I'm not going to live in fear of germs.
