Emergency cancelation

I would definitely not do 3- Let your daughters body rest, heal and let her go when she feels as good as you do- when she can walk, run, and not get wiped out and need to be in a stroller. Long days in the heat(which can be trying on the body,) crowded full of people who can make her even more sick.
It stinks but once she is healthy enough, it will be a great trip. Try to move it to later Oct and see what happens. if it doesnt work out, look into next option.

It took my otherwise healthy 5 year old three WEEKS to recover from pneumonia last year. The idea that three days would be sufficient is wishful thinking. Even once his lungs were cleared, his low energy and lingering cough took much longer than I expected. Go in October, please! That will be a lovely time to visit--great weather, less rain, less intense heat.

I'd do number 1 or 2. Probably number 1 because I don't think CRT is that great anyways.

May is a great time to go though and there's usually a room only discount at minimum. :)

Hi everyone-
Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement and the advice. We've been back and forth all day...and even our doctors are giving us conflicting advice (cancel vs. go). Even though, it would be nice to keep the perfectly planned trip next week, I think it's in our best interests to switch days to the end of October.

Goodbye awesome ADR's (it's slim pickings)-- and goodbye awesome FP+ (A&E, SDMT, parades)--and goodbye money (we'll have to upgrade from CSR to WL).
BUT, it's Disney...and we'll have fun no matter what. And maybe this will get us to try some things we wouldn't have done otherwise.

And for the record, guest services has been amazing. They were so accommodating. They even told me I could move my FD...even though I found out later that the rep shouldn't have had given me access to changing our account (we booked through an agent who's actually at DW this week).

Also, this is the fourth time in the past 18 months that our DD has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Luckily, we spoke with a pulmonologist who believes it's related to her asthma (hence the feeling that she would be able to go next week). Regardless, she needs time to rest...we all do :)

I wouldn't try to make a go of it. Even though she's released doesn't mean she's recovered.

Given the option between going in October and going in May, the main obstacle is obviously ADRs and FP. Take a look at what's available for late October and, if you can get what you wanted, go for it. Otherwise, delay and come back in May.

I know that means you'll have to wait even longer and you'll lose your MNSSHP ticket investment, but you'll be able to get CRT and all the other ADRs you want, as well as your pick of FP.

As for "free" dining...it's not really free. You are paying a top dollar room rate to cover the cost of the food they are giving you for "free". Most times a significant room discount and paying OOP for food will end up being cheaper so be open minded about that possibility for spring.

During our last trip, my DD (5 at the time) broke her arm on a Friday night, surgery on Sat and we were to leave on Monday for WDW. Doctor said we could still go so we packed her and the pain meds up and rented a big stroller and took her. The first two days were a bit rough but the stroller helped a lot.

I do not tell you this story to encourage you to go - rather, if the doctor told me that I could go with a kid with a broken arm, I would definitely listen to a doctor that said "do not go". Just pointing out that if a Dr thinks you can go, they will tell you so (like they did for us). If they say reschedule, take a deep breath and just reschedule.

I hope she feels better soon . . .

Also, (just read your reply), there is a FB group for those going in October (look up dis october 2014). There are ladies on there that love to search for ADR's and FP's so if you want to put them on the prowl for you, join the group and let them know what you are looking for and I bet they can help. They find hard to find things all the time.

I am an adult Pulmonologist, so I don't treat kiddos, but I definitely think you are making the right decision. While she may be able to "go" to WDW, she may not be able to really enjoy a lot of it. She wouldn't be able to go on rides where she'd get wet, she'd likely be very tired, she might not have much appetite for those wonderful meals at CRT and CM, etc. That "free" dining might be wasted on a kiddo who only feels like eating a few bites. And Mom and Dad may be exhausted from being at the hospital with a sick child...you might not be able to enjoy the full trip either. Health is the most important thing!

As OP pointed out, we don't take telling people to cancel their family travel plans lightly, but when it is in the patient's best interest, it is the right thing to do.

Have a wonderful time on your trip when she's recovered!

So since your agent is a DW you are left to fend for yourself?

Why use an agent if they are not available when there is a problem? (Yes agents go on vacation, but they should arrange coverage. ) popcorn::

I am glad you were able to regroup, but I find it amazing that your agent didn't take this over for you so you could concentrate on your child.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's pneumonia and having to cancel your trip. My oldest DD had pneumonia 3 years ago when she was 4 yrs old and it wiped her out for at least two weeks even though she was only in the hospital for 2 days. I'm sure you all will enjoy the trip so much more at the end of October when everyone is healthy and fully recovered.

We are going in October and I second the PP about the cancellation thread and checking out the FP page (though I'm not a member). There have been a lot of great cancellations, including CRT that have popped up in the past few weeks.

I wish your DD a speedy recovery!

Not sure when you'Re going but I have a lunch ressie for 6 around 11:30 ar CP on 10/26 if you'Re interested. I know it's not CRT, but Pooh and Tigger are fun. =) Also, sorry to hear you had to change everything around. Non fun at all.

Hey - So sorry about your DD. We had a broken leg 1 week before Disney a few years ago. We were able to go, but it wasn't the same trip I had imagined either.

Just wanted to pass along a tip as far as dining reservations go. We just got back less than a week ago and I scored some pretty nice reservations (even a BOG) by checking 1-2 days before the day I wanted them. I made the BOG one while we were ON the trip. I know it's nice to plan them out, but you can get almost ALL the reservations you want by doing this. And ours was for a party of 6 so..... Maybe something like that would work?

To be honest, we kind of enjoyed the spontaneity of it - it was fun to check and see what popped up :D

Haven't finalized yet, but will probably arrive the afternoon of the 26--thanks for the offer though! We'd definitely like to give the girls at least ONE character meal :)

After planning for 18 months, I thought we had the PERFECT trip planned. It was probably TOO planned. I think the spontaneity is part of the MAGIC that happens at WDW-- so maybe this is a blessing in disguise! I'm going to keep checking the FB page and these forums for cancelations, but it might be fun to keep things a little less planned out.

Of course, the girls really want to see A&E...so maybe the new FP procedures will be good for people who plan a trip at the last moment :)

I know it's not CRT but I have an Akershus for 4 on Halloween night for 5:30 that I will probably cancel.

So glad you were able to reschedule. I had pneumonia a few years ago and was really shocked at how exhausted I was for at least a couple weeks after. I normally go go go but actually had to take a nap every day. You'll really be glad your daughter has more energy to enjoy the trip!

I think you are wise to switch,OP.... I had pneumonia last year....it feels BAD. And it takes a while to recover from that, I seemed ok on the outside after the meds, but it took weeks to get my strength back to where I wanted to be active....

Not to get too off topic, but OP didn't give enough details to say whether or not their agent had a back-up and whether OP even looked into that. It sounds like OP knew the agent was out of town so it would be quicker/easier to handle it themselves rather than explain everything to the agent's back-up. You're jumping to conclusions about agents that aren't necessarily true :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you rescheduled OP. I had pneumonia last December and as a healthy adult, it took me WEEKS to recover! I had never missed so much work before and once I was on the mend, I just couldn't get my energy back..it drained me completely.

Def check the Disney website multiple times a day for some last minute ADRs. I've been able to get some amazing ones (CRT included) last minute. Fingers crossed for you and sending you lots of pixie dust!

Good luck OP! Glad you are rescheduling and I hope you end up with a magical trip.
I think you made the right decision. My DD was in the hospital for 4 days with pneumonia last winter. It was a miserable experience and it took all of us time to recover afterwards and be at "Disney Strength".
I think you'll have a much better trip in a month or so, even without CRT. (And here's hoping you get some pixie dust and find the perfect reservations!)
