Elsa not at MK Today

We scheduled two elsa m&g's for our trip! My dd talks about it a lot - of course she'd get over it, but it would be very disappointing to her if she wound up not meeting Elsa after daydreaming about it for months.
I got the two in case there was a problem on our end and we couldn't make the first one, but now I'm glad I have it in case something happens to Elsa the first day!

I think that was a very smart plan.

We're trying to remain very vague about our plans to DD8. We know we'll have fun no matter what and not being too specific might avoid some disappointment. Of course I will be sad if something falls through, but I'll feel better if she is none the wiser. ;)

Now if my husband doesn't get his morning Kona coffee at the Poly -- that is another story… :faint:

This makes me glad I have two M&G FPs. I have 2 nieces that would love a postcard from Anna and Elsa, because they cannot afford to come visit them in person. I am determined to make this happen! That said, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the tiara clad, angry children and parents in fantasyland right now! Poor CMs!

That is like buying tickets for Wicked and because the star is sick you see Cats instead.

Huh? :confused3 If the star of "Wicked" is sick, you see her understudy. You don't get sent to a new show.

Stuff happens and like a PP said, they hire people who can be friends with lots of different characters and it can't always be helped. We went to MK several years ago the morning we were cruising out in order to get one last picture with Rapunzel while Flynn was still there with her. We waited an hour and they finally had to break it to us that they weren't going to be able to make it in since Maximus was mad about his apple allotment (or some such thing). It just happens.

This is ludicrous. If my daughter wanted to meet Elsa (and she does) and Elsa was MIA, I would suck it up, explain the situation to my daughter and move on. Things happen. I certainly would not feel entitled to compensation.

Nor do I want my child going through life expecting compensation for every little disappointment---that's just part of life. I certainly would not allow something this trivial to ruin my day.

Ludicrous, really?

I think a lot of what goes on regarding Anna and Elsa is ludicrous. But once you get up at midnight 60 days out from your trip, and are only able to book a FP for A & E the seventh day into your trip, and then you get there and Elsa is a no-show, I think NOT being perturbed would be ludicrous.

Do I think people should stomp their feet and demand monetary compensation? Of course not, but I would personally be chatting with someone about what trade-off there should be in this case if it impacted my trip.

Disappointment is a part life, sure. What about asking to be treated fairly? I wouldn't want to raise a child who didn't stick up for themselves.

I'm glad this isn't impacting me, but I think Disney is sure dropping the ball in this regard.

I think Disney is doing their due diligence with this. I mean, I would be more than willing to be Elsa's friend, but look at my picture--I look nothing like her. They are trying to keep it as authentic as possible for their guests. I would sure hate to think that you didn't show up to work because you were sick and people were screaming for your head and that their life was ruined. Of course, not too many of us actually work in a sector of the business world where this can happen.....

Disney should at least compensate by giving everyone Fastpasses to Stitch's Great Escape.

When I told my husband about this earlier today he said - "they better be throwing someone in an Olaf costume and pushing him out next to Anna to avoid mass hysteria in Fantasyland." LOL

Two friends are at MK today and have been told that Elsa is running Arrendale today and won't be meeting for the day. Anna is meeting and will have a visiting Princess.

I'm not sure if she will appear in the parade or not. :confused3 Just wanted to pass this on.
What is Arrendale?

Perturbed is one thing, making a stink is another. Expecting compensation yet another.

I have had FPs for rides that were not operating for whatever reason (tech issues). I just went on about my day. I don't demand recompense for rides closed for refurbs. This falls into the same category. This does not qualify as "sticking up for yourself" in my book. More "don't sweat the small stuff."

Perhaps "Elsa" had a family emergency. Maybe she got into a car accident on her way to work. Maybe she got a highly contagious roto virus. Would you rather her come to work in that state to satisfy the angry mobs?

I agree it would be ludicrous to demand monetary compensation, but surely an anytime FP is in order. One that can be used for A&E should they become available during the rest of the guests trip, or used for anything else in the park if they don't become available.
Does anyone know how they've been handling it?

What is Arrendale?

Ok, definitely not a Frozen fan are you Dan Murphy, :rotfl2:

Arrendale is Anna and Elsa's Kingdom....where Elsa is Queen. And where the cold doesn't bother her.

So was anyone actually there today that can verify an angry mob of children and their parents took over MK? ;)

We saw three different Elsa 'friends' while we were there earlier this month. We wanted to get a particular friend of Anna's...which we did on our last night....no FP+ for that one...just a. 90 min wait in line. The friend of Anna's that we waited to see is also Merida and Ariel's friend. My dd has been able to get to see her friend being friends with each of those characters. My issue? Were there no Elsa's floating around? I mean there are at least 3....and most likely more. I understand how their shifts work, but there should be an Elsa that can cover at least one room.

As for the disappointment? My dd is 20, will be 21 in the fall. If we chopped about 5" off her, she would be great as friends of those characters. Her favorite is Ariel....has been since she was 3. We go to Akershus for breakfast only to see Ariel. I understand that sometimes you don't get to see a particular princes there. But, it's the only place you can see Ariel with legs...and her beautiful ball gown. Imagine our disappointment when we found that Ariel wasn't there, but hey....Mary Poppins was! What the heck......she's not even a princess. Our server told us that if Ariel calls in, there usually isn't a replacement! Seriously, they have one Ariel with legs?!

You don't get fast passes because a ride is being refurbed, you shouldn't get fast passes just because somebody is sick and can't pretend to be an animated character for you/your kids.

But you *do* get additional FP if a ride is closed due to weather. That's not something Disney can control, either. It happened to us twice during our last trip. We got to use our FP for the same ride, or alternate (there was a list of about 6) later in the day.

We had A&E FP twice for our trip, too. Once we saw them the first time I swapped the 2nd M&G for other stuff. I just wanted a "backup", in case something like this happened.

I don't think anyone is asking for monetary compensation. But, I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask for a FP for Elsa for a different day. After all, if it was regular FP I would just show up another day to grab one. But, FP+ advance booking makes that impossible so Disney opened this can of worms they need to have a recovery in place. :sad2: After all, if I am required to figure out what my whole family is going to feel like eating 180 days in advance and now how to book our rides around that 60 days in advance as well, then I expect Disney to hold up some part of this. I wouldn't go crazy I would just explain calmly how they can make it right. They created the problem with FP+ and ADR's with penalty fees.

As far as CRT, well if that happened I would expect to be able to come back another day of our trip to get the picture with Cinderella. Now, I would have been happy had they substituted a different princess like Aurora and put the FG in the rotation upstairs. But for our picture package and the price for our family of 7 I want a princess.princess: I don't think it would hurt to let some families get in line for the picture with marked receipt from previous day as she's downstairs and not in the restaurant. :confused3

ETA: The reality is they created this with all their advance planning hype. The supposed trade off for less FP'es was the being able to lock in your favorites in advance. ( I don't want to get into the argument about the 4th FP but bigger families like ours can't count on much being available. So the trade off for 3 is I can lock in my DD's A & E FP then that's what I expect.:confused3 ) And as a PP mentioned the hassle of staying up until midnight and going through several issues as their website still doesn't work correctly all the time means that people have an expectation. And yes on a ride breakdown we have been issued a FP to come back later so I would expect that for A & E. Refurb is not the same as you never book a FP + for that anyways as it's not available.
Disney wants the benefits of locking people in then they need to deal with the consequences of that brilliant decision.:scratchin

Our friend was there and met both Elsa and Anna today

As soon as it is known that a character is ill/absent, Management and schedulers go into overdrive to find and bring in a replacement. I'm glad your friend was able to meet both! :)
