Elsa not at MK Today

So the worst job at WDW today is the visiting princess substituting for Elsa. :scared:

I'm glad I'm not there today with my daughter all hyped up to meet her.

Might very well be a toss up with the role of security & character attendants being the worst jobs today
Don't think either of those would be too magical under the circumstances

Yikes. Definitely NOT the day to be at Disney. I can't even imagine the amount of ridiculousness going on right now. I feel bad for the other princesses, the CMs, security, the waitress at the restaurant where these families go to eat, the bus driver taking them back to the resort....

Although, I do think that if there ever was a valid case for "Disney entitlement" it may be this one. Like a previous poster said, with these people reserving this exact time to meet her (& Anna) 60 days ago, & them being so popular. I would expect you to have a few Elsas on your roll call so my kid can meet her. I know that if this happened to us, my 6 year old would be devastated. We would have to go back another day & meet her. But geez, those CMs deserve a bonus today.

Agreed. I would hope Disney would provide some sort of FP for guests to return another day, but somehow I'm doubting that's the case.
I understand Disney has all the fine print in place, but when they advertise FP+ as "locking in" these experiences, I think they should have a recovery method in place. Just like when the guest makes an ADR and is charged $10 for no-show (breaking their guarantee), Disney should reschedule that FP+. But as you say, that doesn't seen to be the case. Hopefully by my next trip, it will be.

You don't get fast passes because a ride is being refurbed, you shouldn't get fast passes just because somebody is sick and can't pretend to be an animated character for you/your kids.
that's true but refurbs are usually announced in advance. If a ride goes down for breaking midday and it's down during your window you usually get another FP to come back or on another ride. They don't say sorry it's broke. Your FP has been wasted.

I think the difference here is the booking of the FP. If a ride is being refurbed, then you normally can't make a FP for it. (right?)

But if a ride is closed due to rain, maintenance, etc and you have a scheduled FP you are given the opportunity to ride another ride/ride the ride later when i is open. While given a makeup FP for Elsa wouldn't be the same day, it is still the same type of situation.

People on the boards who had BOG ressies on days the restaurant had to be closed were given the opportunity to reschedule. People should at least be able to reschedule if they so choose.

I absolutely agree. It needs to cut both ways, especially with this attraction. If someone planned ahead enough to avoid the crazy long standby line they should be offered an alternate day.

But refurbs are usually announced in advance. If Disney wants people to plan ahead and commit 2 months out, Disney needs to do everything they can to accommodate last minute changes.

As I said though, I doubt they will. This is about getting guests to lock themselves in, not Disney.

How many Elsa's does Disney have anyway?

There's only one Elsa of course!! ;) although I'm not sure how many "friends" she has...I don't think it'd be very many, from what I've read on these boards it seems like one friend, maybe 2.

There are two rooms, and the CMs are only allowed to be onstage for a limited amount of time before they're entitled to a break, when they're switched out with another set. So that's a minimum of 4 per shift, and now they're running A&E from open to close, so I assume you have two shifts of princesses, so that gives you 8. Plus you have the person who performs in the parade, though I'd venture to guess that the parade CMs are different from the M&G CMs.

I wonder if Elsa will be back this evening.

I can agree that something should be done for the people missing out that had the " coveted" FP+ ...BUT...and there is always a but... How can this be done ?

It's NOT a one size fits all recovery One family this will be their first day in MK, another their last, and all the different scenarios in between How the heck do you make it up to someone ? Nope not going to happen SHOULD have been a back-up plan but how do you unring this bell ?

Once again poor planning smacks of the fiasco at DHS last for the Fri the 13th No one thought it would be a popular thing and what a cluster that was

Just because one Elsa was missing from one set doesn't mean Elsa wasn't out for the next set as soon as the visiting Princess went backstage. Continuous meet and greets magically run without guests knowing how many characters are manning the meet and greets. It's probably easier for a CM to say Elsa is absent for the day than to say she was missing for this one specific set as that destroys the magic and would cause disgruntled guests to hold up the line to wait for the next set.

From what I have seen on the audition site, they are casting for Elsa/Anna friends left and right! However, Disney is pretty schizo when it comes to casting. One girl might look just like a friend, but be too tall/or short. One girl might be too curvy, another too thin, one too old (number wise, but look young), another too young - it's a crap shoot.
It can even get down to voice/handwriting/movement. Sometimes Disney even gets downright nepotistic, hiring their own friends regardless of appearance. The princesses are usually short though so that they can make the princes look taller!

Today is the perfect example on not allowing one ride/M&G/experience be the make or break for anyone on a WDW vacation. Feel bad for the kids today who are probably having the time of their life and wouldn't really care if they met the Frozen gals, but have to witness their parent losing their mind over it and then making them feel bad about missing out.

But if a ride breaks down, at least when I was there in May, you could wait in line, or leave and be given a new FP. On rides at least, it wasn't good for M&G's, but if you have a FP for Anna AND Elsa, and one can't make it, I would think they would somehow try and make it up.

I mean, if today is your last day at WDW, then you are SOL, but should get something.

We waited 30 minutes for the fairy godmother when we were there (with her photographer) and then, 30 minutes after she was supposed to show, we were told she needed to help Cinderella. That wasn't even a FP, and they gave us a free FP to any ride we wanted (just no M&G).

Either way you are going to end up with unhappy guests. How upset do you think that parent might be when they later hear another family on the bus talking about how they got to meet Elsa that day? I completely understand that things happen, but Anna & Elsa are one of the very few FP+ that are impossible to reschedule. It's not like the family can say "we'll just come back tomorrow and pull a fast pass. Disney is going to have to come up wiith a way to handle this downside of FP+.

We scheduled two elsa m&g's for our trip! My dd talks about it a lot - of course she'd get over it, but it would be very disappointing to her if she wound up not meeting Elsa after daydreaming about it for months.
I got the two in case there was a problem on our end and we couldn't make the first one, but now I'm glad I have it in case something happens to Elsa the first day!
