Elizabeth Taylor Fox documentary...why???

So who is alive that saw her movies from 1956 to 1968 being her last successful film..on the big silver screen???..who is going to sit and rember?? Who is the target audience that must know the details of a interview about a life that has been subject to many interviews and magazines ...842 on eBay of which 37 sold. When Redford died I watched as much as I could on antenna tv... because he was part of the fabric of my life...I didn't know that Bagger Vance was his project...as many times I have watched that movie over and over.
Sure Taylor was a super star from 1956...1968...and I guess my cinema professors thought our class had seen those significant movies as they were never discussed or shown
Those born in the 40s & 50s? My mom would qualify.

I don't get why you are so invested in this. If you're not interested, don't watch it. Seems pretty simple. Fox thought they can make money from it. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. The way you're coming across, it sounds like they're spending your money.

Lassie Come Home!

Having Rough Collies growing up I was a big Lassie fan as a child. I was born in 1983.

[eta] Elizabeth Taylor was in this film as a child, I forgot to say originally.

I don't think the criterion that makes a Hollywood legend relevant today and worthy of a documentary should be that people living now have seen all of their movies. When I see Kardashian and FOX linked, I'll run in the opposite direction, but not because of the subject being profiled. I'm not a big Elizabeth Taylor fan (outside of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), but there's no denying she's part of, pardon me, Lina Lamont, "the cinema firmament."

This is a weird post, are there people who have never watched old movies, old tv shows, listened to old music? And enjoyed it?

Yeah, I don't know why CitrusCurtis is so het up about this. He questioned whether Fox's NFL or Simpsons fans would know and care about Elizabeth Taylor. This series is airing on Fox Nation, which doesn't show NFL games or The Simpsons, so that question isn't even relevant.

I bet even Fox Nation's programmers aren't as emotionally invested in the success or failure of the series as CC is.

Elizabeth Taylor in fact made a couple of appearances on The Simpsons, notably saying Maggie's first word.

Not all media is intended to be consumed by all. What's the point of starting threads just to poop on people/things that others enjoy?

NFL fans??? Simpson fans?
Fox Nation is a streaming service. Like Hulu or Disney or Paramount, etc.

Not just one station. A whole multitude of stations with a variety of interests that allows Fox to dabble in several different genres. With those who watch Fox News skewing older, it makes sense that they would know who Elizabeth Taylor is. D

From Wikipedia. You can look for their entire lineup online.

Fox Nation is an American subscription video on demand service. Announced on February 20, 2018, and launching on November 27 of that year,[1] it is a companion to Fox News Channel carrying programming of interest to its audience, including original opinion-based talk shows and documentary-style programs featuring Fox News personalities (which, as with its parent network, are produced from a conservative perspective), outdoor recreation-related programs, and other acquired programming. It also offers next-day streaming of Fox News primetime programs.

Why are you trying to pick a fight?
Isn't there a separate board for that?

Here in the UK Elizabeth Taylor is held in very high regard for both her acting skills and her great beauty. Her tempestuous relationship with Richard Burton is perceived as one of the great love stories of the twentieth century.

As ever, your mileage may vary.

Not picking a fight... just having a discussion.. back and forth...as a cinema student and teacher of a few films I am intrigued so I put out a few nuggets of wisdom to see if anyone is really interested in her and in the process seeing if anyone else has observed why Fox purchased the content

....so the commercials triggered my question to the population here as I watched Fox over the weekend... sure they were short, very strange and for sure on their nickel....so I took it to social happy hour and asked if anyone hung a poster of Taylor on their wall.... well Marilyn came in first, Welch second and Audrey third.... which pretty much lines up with Goodwill and rummage sales offerings.... though Audrey is common at Goodwill

Very good 😊 😊 😊.... now that is a documentary I would watch... living in Oregon was always interested in Goering and actually cut out his rabbit cartoon characters from the Oregonian newspaper long before Bart surfaced.

Well, sure, but I doubt that's going to draw a lot of Simpsons fans who aren't already interested in Taylor.

Well, I thought that the question is "Would people who are fans of The Simpsons (and more modern fare) even know who Elizabeth Taylor is?" I do believe that they would. They may or may not watch the documentary.

Have not watched the Simpsons because of the time frame and other viewing choices but if I was familiar with the history of the episode I would think I would be inclined to find out more about the lady...fact or fiction

The Chicago Reader ran his "Life in Hell" strip. I aways enjoyed it, especially when Akbar and Jeff made appearances.

The concise view of the rabbits reminded me Gary Larson... which at one time I had some of his magazine work...it was the end of my Sunday reading when Larson and Breathed called it quits.... though I always found an opus under the Christmas 🎄 🎄 🎄 🎁 🎁 🎁

Elizabeth Taylor was heavily associated with extravagance. She made great reading fodder. 80’s supermarket checkout lanes were FILLED with references to Elizabeth Taylor. Every level of journalism had a never-ending stream of articles on the front covers. For years and years and years, even decades. From tabloids to magazines, whether people wanted to thumb their noses at her or were inspired by the fantastical tidbits of her life - she sold copies. Good, bad or indifferent that made her relevant. In many ways it was a pre-curser to social media lifestyle fame, which is basically what the Kardashians built their empire on so I can see why Liz was picked up on their radar 😂

AI Overview:
Yes, Elizabeth Taylor is widely considered synonymous with extravagance, especially regarding her legendary jewelry collection and lavish lifestyle
. Her wealth, fame, and highly publicized personal life, particularly her tumultuous marriages to Richard Burton, made her a symbol of Hollywood luxury and excess.
Her extravagant image is backed by numerous examples throughout her life:
  • Iconic jewelry collection: Taylor was known for her love of diamonds and other precious gems, which were often extravagant gifts from her seven husbands.
    • The 69.42-carat pear-shaped Taylor-Burton Diamond was purchased for her by Richard Burton in 1969.
    • The 33.19-carat Krupp Diamond (later renamed the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond) was another gift from Burton.
    • Her stunning collection also included the historic 16th-century La Peregrina Pearl and the Shah Jahan Diamond.
    • At auction after her death, her jewelry alone sold for $115 million, more than doubling pre-sale estimates.
    • Lavish spending: Taylor and Burton were notorious for their opulent spending.
      • They spent huge fortunes on fine art, including works by Monet and Picasso.
      • In 1969, their full-time staff cost $800,000 annually, the equivalent of over $6 million today.
      • They bought a 290-ton yacht and a private jet to facilitate their globetrotting.
    • Grand productions and publicity: Her professional life was also associated with extravagance.
      • Her affair with Richard Burton on the set of Cleopatra led to one of Hollywood's most notorious and public relationships, complete with expensive gifts and constant media attention.
      • Her eight weddings to seven different men were each spectacular affairs, featuring custom-made gowns from top designers.
      • Her final wedding to Larry Fortensky in 1991 was held at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch and featured 160 celebrity guests.
    • Eccentricities and anecdotes: Her larger-than-life personality and anecdotes further cemented her reputation for excess.
      • She was known for traveling with a massive entourage and dozens of pieces of luggage.
      • Her former assistant recalled that Taylor once gave Michael Jackson an elephant as a thank-you gift.
Ultimately, Taylor embodied the peak of old Hollywood glamour, using her considerable wealth to live a lavish lifestyle that captivated and scandalized the public for decades.

So.is it fair..to litmus test eBay and the 800 listings of Taylor magazines 33 sold....to 1,500 Redford listings and 353 sold/ or no purchase

Will there be a Taylor surge
