Electronic Keys Allowed in Carry-Ons?

OK, I know this is a bit of an odd question. I could have sworn that a few years ago I had read that electronic keys (the kind that unlock doors automatically) were not allowed in carry-on luggage. But today I went to the TSA website and couldn't find anything about it. I usually do valet parking at the airport, so I never had to worry about it before since they kept the key. This time I'm doing self parking. So are these keys allowed in carry-ons or should I switch to my non-electronic key? Thank you!

Never thought it was an issue. I always throw my keys in my carryon right after I get out of my car. Fly once or twice a month and never heard that electronic keys weren't allowed in carryon.

We always park at the airport and put our car keys with a keyless entry fob in to our carry on luggage without an issue. These really wouldn't interfere with the aircraft like a cell phone or other device would since it doesn't transmit any signal unless a button is pressed.

You may have seen the article http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/21/business/21road.html. An unusual key was at issue, and TSA (not for the first or last time) was publicly shamed for its idiocy. There has never been a general prohibition on electronic keys.

Thanks, everyone! I think when I read about it it was probably right after the whole no liquids debacle. I think it had to do with possibly using them to set off a bomb and not with aircraft interference.
