Could someone please help? I have seen several postings about ECV rentals from outside companies in Orlando. What are the company names and how much are they? Also, we are driving, will we need a gate on the back of our car to transport it to MGM and AK? Thanks for the help. 17 days and counting :) !

I had rented a fulll-size four door sedan on my last trip. I had rented an ECV from Walker Mobillity. Due to my size (6'2", 290#) I had the "heavy duty" ECV rather than the one with the lower weight limit.

Once I got used to it, I could break it down and load it in the car in about two minuts, and it would take three or four minutes to unload and set it up.

1. The seat just lifted up from its mount.

2. There were "quick-release" connections to the two batteries. Each of them was enclosed in a carrier and they just sat on the floor in small wells.

3. There was a quick-release where the power cable connected to the rear wheel assembly, and pulling on a "T" handle separated the wheel assembly from the rest of the ECV.

4. The handle bar folded down, and the basket collapsed on itself.

It was then just a matter of putting the pieces in the trunk. The heaviest was 39#. Pulling the wheel release and the "free-wheel" switch allowed easy movement of the wheen assemply.

There was plenty of room in the trunk for extra stuff, as well as the folded ECV. It does help, of course,to be able to pick up the pieces.

However, the times I went into a hotel where there was valet parking the valets offered to assis me in loading or unloading the ECV. Also, one time at Downtown Disney a roving Security Host offered to assist. If I (as well as anyone else with me) did not have the strength or ability to handle the pieces I would have probably been able to get assistance in loading/unloading

Thank you guys for the great information. I believe we will rent one for my husbands sister! The break down instructions were great- Thanks so much!!

Goofy Pal,

Just rented an ECV from Care Medical and can't say enough in praise of the great equipment and service.

It was $60.00 for the two days (also their minimum). The scooter was waiting at our hotel last Thurday morning for me and we dropped it off back there Friday night on our way back to Tampa. They picked it up Saturday morning. It couldn't have been easier. I also talked to Randy's and Walker Mobility; they would have been $75.00 for two days but the issue was the drop off. Care offered the only solution that could work for our schedule.

We rented a Chevy Lumina and it fit into the trunk with a little cajoling. But it was easier just to put the seat in the backseat of the car. We didn't know until I called them after we were home in Michigan that the batteries were removable.

As far as the monorail at MK was concerned, Andrew had supplied the best information on that. The ramp was not too steep for the ECV whatsoever, but probably would be hard pushing a manual wheel chair up it. The whole thing was very simple (I worried about nothing). The CMs queue you into the handicap slot, when it is time to load they slide out a boiler plate steel ramp from the inside of the guard railing and position it over the ridge between the platform and car. You drive right on. Coming out a CM slides the ramp into position and you back out (carefully).

I also called WDW before we left to clarify the question concerning the ferries and water levels. They told me it could be an issue with the smaller boats that run between resorts but not the big ones. Also, I think the ECV are not so heavy that they couldn't be lifted over a small gap. The monorail worked for us.

The weather last Thursday and Friday was perfect during the day but we Michiganders nearly froze at night. The crowds were huge and I had some problems getting through them because of inconsideration. I can't begin to imagine the difficulties of getting a manual chair through on crowded days.

Parking was not perfect but we managed to get much closer the second day.

Thanks again to all for the great information I got before leaving. Hope this helps.
