ECV Battery Question

Ok, so I called Delta to tell them we were taking Mom's scooter with us and they told me they need to know whether the battery is:

wet cell
dry cell
manually powered

Simple right? Except that when Mom called her scooter store they told her it was a "sealed gel" battery. What the heck does that Mean? Does it fit in one of the foregoing categories?

I'm hoping one of my Dis friends can help-- (Chesire?)

I would get back to them and state it is a sealed gel battery and they should check the Federal Air Regulations which show that they can be transported as a non-hazardous item.

And if the person you talk to does not understand, ask that they connect you to the airline's Special Services Desk and they will then straighten them out.

I hate it when I have to tell someone providing a service how they are supposed to do their job.

Airlines can only take batteries that do not leak even when cracked open. Your gel battery is the non-leaking dry cell kind.

I think all modern equipment would meet these requirements. When I got my scooter, there was a sheet in with the battery boxes to use when I needed to transport it. I put it in a plastic sleeve and put it in the pocket of my scooter when I fly. I slap a name label on it with my phone number in case it gets lost.

I also put a small tag with my name and cell number on the key ring for my scooter. I keep it there all the time in the event I loose it.
