:scared: :sad2: :crazy2: We've been lucky with bears, too....other than an occasional bird feeder or trash can being destroyed, no close calls :yay:. I'd like to keep it that way! I don't know if your sister told you about it, but there is a family of bears around Montage; they keep invading WNEPs back yard (happened this summer while Kurt Aaron was on-air. It was hysterical...to quote him, "I ran like I stole something" :rotfl2:).

We had a "Goldie Locks" adventure last year. A bear clawed his way into our cabin and made himself at home. Ate everything in sight--including 5 lbs of Crisco, took a nap in our bed, left us a little "present" and went out the way he came. Very scary to walk into a ransacked cabin but had to laugh, the only think he didn't eat was the powdered milk! Even hungry bears won't touch that stuff ;)

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Tough about the deer accident. When I hit one, because it was a deer, they didn't charge the deductable - maybe you'll be that lucky too! (A big deductable saves money when you *don't* have an accident because the premiums are lower)

Home safe and sound. Unpacking, laundry and then - LET THE CRUISE PLANNING BEGIN!

Happy Day, all!

I wish this was the case.:mad:I have gone round and round with them, everyone has told me no way has to pay that and they will not listen. Ugh!!

Thanks for the tips - sounds like you have managed this very well. I know I need to change the way I eat, but I'm just not sure how. I meet with a diabetes nutrionist on Friday, so I'm sure that will help.

Tammy

DH just found out he has type 2 diabetes. He has been really working hard to lose weight. He walks to and from work 2 miles each way. His Dr has him on metformin and he tests his sugar, so far it's going okay.

Checked tonight to see if the tour had opened up and it did! Both DH and I are reserved for the PV Zipline. It was the only DCL excursion I was looking at, and I am very glad it came open. I hope if it was one of the disers that cancelled, they are doing something else fun that day. I am still feeling a little guilty planning to leave DS on the ship all day, but he does it at preschool, and this shouldn't be much different, right?

Did anyone else on the tour notice the start time was 10:15, and the itinerary has us docking at 10:30? Is that normal, or an error?

Congrats!! We are doing that tour too. I'm not so sure about it :scared1: but my DH is excited.:woohoo:

We did a zipline tour last summer in the mountains in Northern California. I am scared of heights, and enjoyed the zipline. The part that terrified me was these "bridges" they had strung between trees. Each board/step was free hanging like a swing, and you had to work your way across. Even strapped in, I did not like it, but made it across by leaning my weight forward so the harness was supporting most of me, and only looking at the next board, not the 100ft drop below me.
I haven't checked to see if the PV tour has anything like that, but I do recall we get wet from landing in the river on a couple of the zips? That may not be the same tour, but read a MR Trip report and I think this excursion. Hmm, need to PM that person and ask, because will want to bring a back up pair of sneakers if that is the case.

I am on the same medicine and testing twice a day - exercising daily and watching watch I eat, my numbers have stabilized, but still seem high. It seems that everything I have read indicates weight loss is the best medicine.

We are doing this as well and I am scared to death, my DH and DD are excited - I was thinking maybe I should just stay on the ship and not embarass myself in front of others

As far as weight loss goes...

I walk 4 miles every day as part of my commute to work. It's actually four one-mile segments, two each way, with a five minute train trip in the middle. When I started, each segment took me over 20 minutes. Now when the train is late, like today, I can make it in seven minutes!!!

I drink gallons of water. I love water, and it keeps me from eating when I'm not really hungry but want something to do. I also take a nap every afternoon when I get home. How does that help with weight control? That's easy--if I don't take a nap, I eat. Things like cheese and crackers, cake, cookies, etc. If I'm napping I can't do that ;)! If I do snack now, it's carrots or other fresh veggies, which I love!

I also gave up stress and worry. If I can't fix it, then worrying about it and stressing over it will only add pounds and not answers. That was the hardest part of my "lifestyle change". If I can fix whatever, I'll do it. If not, I just have to let it go and deal with the consequences. All stress does is make me crazy!

My little black dress isn't all that little, but it is four sizes smaller than the outfit I wore for formal night on my cruise last November. I'm happy. I weight five pounds less than I did the day I graduated from high school and am back in the same dress size. I'm not small but any means, but I'm where I need to be.

Beth

Thanks Beth - your tips are good ones. Stress eating is not a problem for me - I eat more out of boredom. I'm trying to eat more veggies and fruits. I'm hoping my meeting with the nutrionist on Friday will help figure out what to eat and when. It is frustrating how fast the weight can pile on, but how slow it is to take it off.

Just trying to remember if any of these things have been finalized.

1) Did anyone decide on a time/date/place for the Disneyland meet?

2) I know there was some mention of name tags at one point. Has anything been decided/anyone volenteer/any interest? I know the plastic case DCL gives castaway members with the lanyard is 4"x3". we could always design a nametag that will fit right into the KTTW holder. Just a thought.

3) At one point there was talk on the facebook page of a homework meet for the kids. Was a time/place/date ever decided?

Thanks!

I think name tags are a wonderful idea - it would be a great way to recognize everyone. Hopefully someone will volunteer.

Homework club was talked about, but not finalized. I know DD won't be getting up in the morning to do homework :rotfl2: hopefully she won't have too much, but we won't know til closer to the cruise.

Wow, what a story! Was it a black bear or a grizzly? I would love to see a grizzly some day from a far!

I am still feeling a little guilty planning to leave DS on the ship all day, but he does it at preschool, and this shouldn't be much different, right?
We will be leaving behind my neice as well as she is the only one not old enough. Sadly, she is the adventurous one and would enjoy it more than her brother. We left her behind when she was three during our Med. cruises and she never even knew we were gone. She was much happier in the kid's club. Once my sister informs the kids of the cruise, I am going to start showing my nephew videos of some of the zips I have done to start to prepare him. I have to beg and brib him to get him on roller coasters.

I eat more out of boredom. I'm trying to eat more veggies and fruits.

I was eating out of boredom all the time, sitting at a desk doesn't help so I do what Beth does and now I drink water instead of eating. Lots and lots of water. I've gained a few of my lbs back though..really want to lose them again before the cruise

Glad you got the tour...there seems to be quite a group of us going on it...I was wondering about the water as well...I really don't want to be walking around the rest of the time in wet shoes. That would mean I need to pack another pair of shoes...I hate packing shoes, they take up too much room and with all the FE gifts I am bringing, it may be pretty tight!

Our family (9 of us) are extremely excited about this Disney EBPC Cruise and I've been inundated with many questions which I'd like to pass on. My daughter, mother of twin 4 year old granddaughters is asking--

Sleeping arrangements in an inside room. She knows where Mom and Dad will sleep but what about the kids. Does the couch open up into a bed? Is there a fold out upper bunk? Are bed rails available?

Do the pools provide flotation devices such as blow up rings or should she plan to bring their own?

She heard that one of the dinners is a Pirate Night. Are costumes available on the boat or should she plan to bring some.

I'm sure there will be more as we've begun the countdown.

Good Morning - er not- Happy Cruisers!

Snow on the ground here this morning. So glad I have a cruise to look forward to!!!

YIKES! But DH, the skier, would be LOVin it!

Couch is a bed and there should be a bunk which does have a sort of rail. I'm betting the kids will sleep together on the couch.

No flotation devices are provided, and i'm thinking not allowed, either.

She heard that one of the dinners is a Pirate Night. Are costumes available on the boat or should she plan to bring some.

If she wants costumes she should bring them. I *think* there might be some kid things, but for them she will pay dearly!

I think nametags are a great idea, since we'll never be able to identify other Dissers without them. On our other DCL cruises, someone has always volunteered to design/make/bring them to our meet, but I realize this is a major undertaking for someone far more techie/creative than me. Previous cruises, the Dis group has arranged lanyards for everyone, but I don't think this is really necessary; new cruisers can easily pick up a lanyard. Other thoughts?

I think it was JSails who mentioned name tags, but she's down for the count with her back, so Someone else should probably pick up the ball & run with it, IF you want a group thing. One could also print ones own, from one of the cruise graphics.

These are all great tips. I've lost 85 lbs and follow most of these--except for the nap. I would love a daily nap :). I've found that excercise is a major key to keeping it off--going on 2 yrs now but will always be a battle:sad2:.. And like you not small by any means but content for the time being.

CONGRATULATIONS! GREAT JOB!

(I'm struggling to keep off the 55, and yes, still Pooh sized. However, like you, content for now.)

Happy Day, all!

After doing homework on the cruise last time, we decided to pass this time and take advantage of the 2 weeks of Christmas break we have when we get home to complete homework. Each girls books weigh over 20 pounds (really, I just weighed them) and that doesn't count the workbooks, binders, pens and pencils. Plus they use the internet daily for research. I'll use that 42 pounds and extra luggage space for souvenirs and FE gifts.

Don't stay on the ship. You've gotta go on the PV zipline, Tammy! We can embarrass ourselves together! :)

Where did you zipline in Northern California? Just curious as we live in Northern Nevada.

From the photos on the DCL website, the excursion does show a "bridge" to cross and also a rope ladder to climb.

Last December on the MR cruise, we booked a private zipline in PV with Los Veranos. The only thing I didn't like about Los Veranos is that I wanted to stop here and there to catch my breath and enjoy the scenery, but they moved us from one line to another really fast. I heard they had a big group coming in after us, so perhaps they were moving us through more quickly than normal. If it is the same company, I may pass on this excursion because I didn't like feeling rushed. Can someone confirm which company does the zipline for DCL?

So let's do a roll call. Who is doing the Canopy Adventure Zipline in Puerto Vallarta? If your kids are joining you, how old are they?

Chris, Marla, Moriah (14)

She heard that one of the dinners is a Pirate Night. Are costumes available on the boat or should she plan to bring some.

:welcome: On the Mexican Riviera crusie, each of our dinner plates had a "Pirates of the Caribbean" bandana to wear on our heads, but no costumes. I had packed bandanas for our family, but found out that I didn't need them afterall.

Emily, Michael, Corinne, Luke (9)

I will be bringing my helmet camera and plan on filming the zips so if anyone wants the videos at the end of the cruise, let me know.
