Ebay Scam

wow! Can they catch this guy, and by the way....how does this happen?? I thought there was a way of EBAY making sure it was safe to use?

That is so sick.
And he had good feedback until the 110 negatives in just the last few days, so no one was really even suspicious.

Well if people payed w/Paypal they can get their money back easily. Paypal will ask the seller to give proof the item was shipped (delivery confirmation number) and if the seller can't produce it, the buyer gets their money refunded.

People have to somewhat use common sense, too. Where would a person get hundreds of brand new ipods and be able to sell them for $150 less than retail when a lot of stores are sold out of them?

That's like people who buy a brand new $3000 Louis Vuitton purse on ebay for $100 and get mad when they realize its a fake.

I'm not saying what the seller did was right, but come on people- at least use common sense and a credit card to pay so you have some recourse.

Maybe his account as hijacked? He had quite a few positives prior to this. I know that "hijackers" look for sellers like that so the potential buyers won't be leary.

Here is another one.

Second person identified in alleged eBay scam

By Daily News staff
December 21, 2005

The Collier County Sheriff's Office today identified a second Collier resident wanted for questioning in an alleged scam using the eBay auction Web site.

Authorities said they are searching for Shahnoza Khakimova, 31, as part ofan investigation in which more than 200 people say they were scammed.

Officials identified Alisher Mardonov, 34, as a person wanted for questioning on Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Office said Khakimova is the girlfriend of Mardonov, who lives at 1765 Courtyard Way, #205, in East Naples. Both are believed to be Uzbekistan citizens who live and work in Collier.

Authorities said buyers paid for eBay items by money order or personal check, sent to the East Naples address. Buyers say they never received their purchases and began contacting eBay and the Collier County Economic Crimes Unit on Saturday to complain.

A nationwide notice has been sent to law enforcement agencies, alerting them to be on the lookout for Mardonov and Khakimova and their vehicles. The Sheriff's Office is looking for a 1996 white Chrysler four-door with Florida tag F09-KSP and a 2001 silver Mercedes four-door with Florida tag C14-6IN.

The Sheriff's Office is working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to determine their immigration status. Authorities aren't sure whether Mardonov and Khakimova are still in the area.

Anyone who believes they are a victim or has information about Mardonov and Khakimova is asked to contact Collier sheriff's detective Panayiota Kotokis at (239) 774-8033 or pkotokis@sao.cjis20.org.

Find additional coverage in Thursday's edition of the Naples Daily News.

It also has the pics of the 2 people.

How and where did he cash all those money orders and checks ??? :confused3

Yeah IF they could have paid by Paypal they may have been protected. But the seller was not accepting Paypal, supposedly due to being scammed by a buyer (ironic ain't it?)

That is amazing and really scary! I use E-Bay all the time. Makes you think twice though...

Unbelievable! BIG red flag when they won't take paypal, but the poor woman called him and he SCAMMED her to her face, what a scumbag! I hope they catch him and deport his butt after he spends 10 years in Federal Prison ASAP and his girlfriend is probably just as guilty. Believe it or not, I was hoping the guy was dead or at least seriously injured and that would explain why he did this, guess no such luck.

Those poor people, I'll be praying for them all.

That is just awful. I cannot believe the big spiel they put in their auctions about looking out for scams.

They were selling like this for some time with no or little problems then this WOW.
Even though PAYPAL is not 100% either I use the CC payments for even alittle more protection.

I have even used a CC check on something that was shady but turned out ok.(was new to e-bay&paypal so account was accepting payments yet).

This person is long gone but might not be of his own accord.

SAD VERY SAD for all those poor people.

What a terrible situation. I hope they catch this guy.

Unfortunately something like this tends to give eBay a black eye. However, we live in a 'buyer beware' society and those who bought from this guy just weren't very smart. Doesn't matter that he had positive feedback, when someone only takes payment by means where you have no recourse you have to pass on the deal and buy from someone else.

This same thing happened. We were one of the last ppl to actually get our game tickets (mpatrickmd) and that was after a couple of months of constant emails bugging the guy asking him where our tickets were.

Last I heard (and Google news shows no differently) the man was missing. His family had filed a missing person's report.

But again....another case of years of great feedback, and then *poof* ebay seller gone bad.
