Ebay question - non payment

The company my DH works for has recently opened an ebay store. The store has only been open for about 2 months and his feedback is new and growing. They have a paypal account but it is set up for non-credit card purchases only because they do have a credit card machine in the small retail store and do not want to pay the paypal fees for credit card payment.

A buyer made a "buy it now" purchase last week. The listing clearly states the payment instructions to be paypal (non-credit card only) and if they are paying by credit card it gives a phone number to call to give the information over the phone. Well, of course the buyer paid by credit card in Paypal and my DH denied the payment. The buyer said she didn't know how to pay using paypal without a cc and she would send a money order. At this time my DH gave her options (a phone number or fax number to give cc information, an address to mail MO and instructions on transfering money into her paypal account to make payment). He even assured her that her cc information would be safe as they are a reputable company (which I understand she doesn't know that). Well, today she has emailed him and said just to forget about the whole thing and she doesn't want the item anymore if she is going to have to go out to get a money order.

What would you do? Leave negative feedback and request a final value fee credit? Or ignore it since the ebay store is so new and not risk negative feedback on his end? Or remind her that it is ebay's policy for the buyer to pay for the item purchased?

I've sold many items through ebay, and have been more lucky than unlucky (thank goodness).

He can file for a final value credit fee reimbursement, and also file a "non paying bidder" complaint with ebay. That's about it.

If he leaves negative feedback, she will most likely retaliate with negative feedback, bringing down his positive feedback percentage. Warning: if she does this, ebay will not retract the feedback that she leaves even though she clearly caused the transaction to fall-through. That's where ebay stinks. They do not stand behind their sellers in these instances. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Remember, if he requests a credit & files a non-paying bidder alert, he does not have to follow it up with any feeback at all.

So, on one hand he can leave her negative feedback and warn other sellers of her ways.

On the other hand, he can expect to receive negative feedback with NO support from ebay.

It's a tough decision. Good luck!

He can also file for non-payment credit, and leave a neutral feedback to the effect of "transaction was not completed".

I have a hard time leaving negative feedback, myself.

To avoid a negative from this bidder, I believe I'd offer one last option: email her saying she can mail you a personal check for the item (won't have to go out for money order) and explain you will ship item after check clears. After that, there's really no other way of pacifying this buyer. Best of luck to you!
