Ebay Auction

I don't think DISBoard members necessarily get it on this one. In my opinion, the real lesson to be learned here is not that the Ebay bidders are idiots, but that there is a BIG market for small contracts.

I disagree with half of your premise. In fact, ebay bidders are idiots. :flower: This stripped contract sat on TUG for almost three weeks at $3750, then eventually went up on ebay and fetched $6000.

Disney is missing out on sales of small contracts, though, you are right about that.

I'm with snowbunny on this. I'd assume (deadly, I know), however, that Disney has a reason for their minimum - which used to be higher (230?) in the past. It might be the pain/cost of managing all the little contracts, maybe they want to encourage longer stays....

"Clearly someone mistook this for the Disney Dream Auction on eBay, where outrageous bids are de rigeur.

Perhaps DVC will be merciful and apply ROFR because the price was too high, buying it for $85/pt instead! "

Nope, Disney would have to pay the agreed to price from the buyer and seller. They wouldn't be able to adjust the price to what they wish to pay.

I just hope this doesn't give people ideas - I still want to have contracts to pick from on resale!

Did anyone notice there are 3 new different contracts on ebay? 2 BW contracts and a 25 point BCV contract. I wonder how much these will go for

I was wrong its 2 BCV and 1 BWV contract. The 110 point one is already at $8800 with many days to go.

This auction reminds me of when the DVC watches came out, remember someone had a watch on Ebay and it sold for over $1000.00 (I think it was that much) and the seller had someone maybe a friend bid on it to drive the price up. I wonder if this could be something this person did too!

My Dad always says "A fool and his money are soon parted" and I guess it is still true. Not even counting the high price per point, but who would want to buy someting as complicated as a time-share, with all the ins and outs and rules and regulations, from a place like E-bay? Do you think the buyer even realizes there are no points to use for many, many months?

We own 390 points at Beach Club. It is tempting to try to sell them and then buy a zillion at Old Key West, my favorite resort! :sunny:

Oh My Gowrsh!

So quick tell me oh great DVC masters, how do I split my 400 points at BWV into 8 - 50 point contracts. Hmmmmm 400 Points at $120.00= $48,000.00

Buy BWV contracts from Disney at $89.00 a point = 539 points for the same cost and increase of 139 points or 35%

Okay so what are the eBay fees?

Then if I do it again......

539 * 120 = $64680.00

Buy 'em back 726 new points.

Now if I sell 'em stripped and rent out my points before selling each time.

Original Points 400 x $10.00 pp = $4,000.00

Now when I but the 'new' 539 points. I'll get a late use year so that I have 2005 & 2006 points, rent the 2005 points = 539 x $10pp = $5390.00

So if my math is correct (less any ebay fees) I would have $8390.00 in cash and 726 BWV points!

shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone else.....

I wonder how many buy/sell cycles to hit 2,000 points?

-Tony

P.S. Called my guide, can't split the contract! Bummer

One more cycle, sell 726 points @ $120pp = $87,120.00 + $8390.00 'bonus cash' = $95,510.00 buy new BWV at $89.00 pp = 1,073 points. Rent out UY 2005 for $10,730.00 + sell 1073 points @ $120.00 pp = $128,760.00 + $10,730.00 = $139,490 buy 'em back at $89 = 1,567 points.

I'll be back gotta go to eBay!
