Ebay Auction

Caveat emptor, 'know your merchandise' and all that...I'm sure the seller is kicking himself for not listing on ebay first.
I've checked out web sites of ebay "power" sellers many times and found the same item for sale cheaper off ebay, from the same person or store, than at their auction starting bid or buy-it-now price.

With 44 minutes left, it is now up to $4250 for the 50 points!!!

That's $85 per point, or $93.40 per point after closing costs! :earseek:

"Here is your perfect opportunity to buy into Disney Vacation Club inexpensively!"

Now I know whwere to go for my add-on
:rotfl2: :earseek:

ROFR What is this an abbreviation for? I know it has something to do with resales going through closing and Disney having an opportunity to buy it back.. but I cannot figure out what it means.. By the Way We got our Back pack and our SSR lithograph today.. Now we need to send the papers back and get accepted for financing! Almost Home! :cheer2:

As mentioned, Right of First Refusal.

It simply means that when an offer is made by a buyer to a seller, that offer first goes to Disney who has the right to 'accept' that 'offer' and make the purchase themselves under the same terms as the original offer, or to reject (refuse) that purchase offer and let the original buyer complete the sale to purchase the contract.

Hope that helps.

Clearly someone mistook this for the Disney Dream Auction on eBay, where outrageous bids are de rigeur.

Perhaps DVC will be merciful and apply ROFR because the price was too high, buying it for $85/pt instead!

FOR SALE, FOR SALE: Every point I own at $120/point plus closing costs.

If I get a buyer, just think of how many more points I could get direct from Disney with that same money...... pirate:

Maybe I should add my guide's phone number to my speed dial...., just in case. :earboy2:

I hope when this one crosses the desk at Disney they don't get the idea that we all are willing to pay $120 per point when they consider their next price increase.

:earseek: I can't believe I was running around crazy yesterday thinking I had to bid on this or it was going to be the "one that got away." I am so glad that I read this entire thread and did some research before I got too bonkers and bid on it. You can purchase(thru a resale company) an 80 point contract at $68 per point (making it thru ROFR that is) and the points are available to you this April. With the final cost of the auction at $6420 with closing and fees that's $128.40 per point! This is crazy!

I think he has the right idea. Maybe I will buy some points, put them on ebay and then buy more points cost free!! :rotfl:

To bad there is a chance the buyer could bail out. Anyone have the link for that sale? Wonder what the buyers rating was.

By the way, expect to pay around 75 plus closing if you want to be at WDW with a resale.

I think Themeparkfoods won...I've gone up against him (or her) before bidding on some sericels. Must have deep pockets as they paid too much then as well.

There were three individual bidder that were willing to pay over $100.00 per point. They say ignorance is bliss, but I feel sorry for the buyer :confused3 Clueless!

As noted upthread, there were a number of us eying this listing on TUG, when it had no takers for weeks at $75 because the contract is stripped and the buyer is to play closing *plus* ROFR fee.

Winning bidder laduca1, with 100% positive feedback. Too bad he didn't do his research, but that's ebay for you.

This seller is smart enough to know that nothing on eBay sells for less than it's worth. He also realizes the buzz created by the auction's 'no reserve' status might well ensure that bidding goes much higher than fair market value.
Man, I'm good.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to call in and get on the waitlist for a few add-ons.

I don't think DISBoard members necessarily get it on this one. In my opinion, the real lesson to be learned here is not that the Ebay bidders are idiots, but that there is a BIG market for small contracts. Disney doesn't offer these to new customers, and they are likely losing market share by requiring the 150 point minimum. Notice that the small contracts at The Timeshare Store and other locations go in a snap. This is further evidence that the market for small contracts is very strong, and perhaps they are priced too low.

The other mistake that DISBoard members routinely make is the utter fixation with the cost of a contract per point. The real world simply doesn't make decisions that way. Well at least most of us don't: I know some people who go into Sam's Club and buy a decades worth of peanut butter because the cost per ounce is less. Most of us are happy, though, getting a smaller amount for a somewhat higher price. So it goes with DVC points. Some people are happy staying in a studio. Others want to travel to WDW less frequently. Disney doesn't serve these customers, so the resale market will.

Food for thought! :)
