No we are not doing the disney air fare - we will fly out of Nashville or Memphis (which ever is cheapest) on Wed. or Thursday berore the cruise and then stay maybe a week afterwards in Europe as I have family there. It is hard to tell at this point :) - it is still 18 months away after all :)

Krisann

I am still going to watch the airfare, but Disney was charging $926 per person for airfare and transfers. I went on line and the cheapest I could get a flight from Barcelona to Nashville was over $1,000. I still would have to get to Port Canaveral and from the ship to Barcelona airport. So I added the airfare/transfers.

Hi Robin!!! Glad to see you on this cruise!! We are leaving our girls behind for this cruise...We didnt want them to miss 2 weeks of school.

Hi Tina,

Glad to see a familiar face. So you get the honor of running FE game. Good for you. Have a blast.

Robin

I keep trying to PM, but it doesn't seem to go through. Anyway, may we be added to the list? We are (at time of sailing):

We're all from Ohio.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard! I've added you to the website (www.freewebs.com/spanishinquisition/) . If you could PM me with your hometown, stateroom number and dinner rotation (or any of those that you feel comfortable sharing) I'll add it to your entry.

Sure enough they called back and let me add 2 nights without a change to the airfare. That was nice :goodvibes

Now how do I get DH and DD to join us in Barcelona for the weekend???Lifeboat anyone???

In early '08, DCL changed its commission schedule to TAs.

If you book onboard, and designate a TA on the spot, the TA gets the full commission. The change is: if you transfer the reservation later, the TA gets a reduced commission. Some TAs base their OBC (separate from the DCL OBC) on the commission they receive.

Woody

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the DU OBC would be for a transfer of a reservation the the transatlantic?

Nan, glad you got to make your change. :thumbsup2

I'm so happy ...just talked to my kids school principal and she said the kids can miss school with no problem! She said plan your vacation and don't worry about it. They will be able to make up their school work.
So EB tranatlantic it is!!!

Just got "that call" from DCL air and was told the effective date to make no changes without a cost increase is TODAY! I asked why couldn't I make the change I requested yesterday? She is looking into it and calling me back...the story continues....

I received a voicemail today that would indicate you could make changes today without cost increase. When I called, they indicated that the "correct" rates are in the system today and no changes could be made at the cheaper fare.

where in ohio are you from? im in northwest ohio in a suburb of toledo.

I doubt you'll have much trouble taking a first-grader out for 2 weeks. We used to do it with DD during those years (before we became homeschoolers) and never had an issue. It gets harder as kids get into the middle school and high school years, but early elementary students should be fine.

Nan- so glad it got worked out. In a taxi now heading to our hotel in Chicago. We did the same thing - two nights stay at the AC Diplomat. Which hotel did you pick? Do you think DCL covers transport back to the airport?

I think I picked the cheap $400 a night hotel :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Cheap, ya right...I think it was AC Barcelona. If my memory was correct, they had comment about adding 2 children in a room, which is very hard to find in Barcelona, so if Paul and Molly meet us in Barcelona I'm hoping to just add them directly thru the hotel (or cheat and sneak them in) 2 extra nights also. I wish I knew when their spring break was, hopefully it will fall into some of the time, so that Molly can come along too, I really can't take her out of school for 2 weeks in 8th grade.

My travel agent called me yesterday and said no changes with pre hotel etc. could be made or we would get charged the higher airline rate. So I'm not touching it.

My kids will be in middle school (7th and 8th grade) and its fine.
I did pull my kids out one week when they wer'e younger and it really didn't make any difference. I know with some states they don't count vacation as a excused absence and thats what I was concerned about. My kids do attend private school so I think that helps. I would ask the principal just to have peace of mind.I know I'm glad I did!:)

One questions from a person that is not sailing with you.

How many threads are you all going to go through? You are already on page 34 of thread #1 when it is a year and a half away! WOW!

I want to follow this one!

My oldest daughter will be just-turned 7 and in first grade. I'm not only hoping that the school will be ok with the 2 weeks off, but I'm thinking about pushing it a bit longer to maybe spend some time in Europe after the cruise. I'm not sure how well this will go over, but how often do we get to Europe??!!

I'd love to hear what your daughter's principle says!!

I usually take my kids out for a two week vacation at least once a year. I have never had a complaint from our school district. I send a letter to each teacher in advance and get any missed school work. My kids are pretty good students and I am actually homeschooling Athena this year. I don't know if we will continue with it but it is working for her for now as we work through some health issues that kept her out of school most of this year. Logan will be in highschool when this cruise happens. I checked with his school and the most days he can miss in a row before losing credit is 10. We should only be missing 10 with the cruise and he is only going to be a freshman so I figure he will be fine! I booked the eastbound as opposed to the westbound because I figured by spring his teachers would know him and us better! I realized today that we booked our flights with disney and got the super deal. We chose to fly out of Seattle on friday the 8th and stay the night in a hotel in Orlando. I may see if I can change it to the redeye flight so he doesn't miss Friday of school. If he misses that day as well it would be 11 days :(

We took our kids in 2nd & 5th grade on the PC repo, 2 weeks. It was ok. But I did realize that my DD who will be in 8th grade at time of this cruise it would be too hard on her. It depends on the kid if it will work or not. I think my son could do it at any age, but he is different kind of student than DD. Both do well in school, but she really needs the school environment to make it work for her.

I can't think that anything that is done in 1st grade can't be taught thru parents. You will be fine with the little ones on this trip. :thumbsup2
