My, those MRE boxes look pretty large to be lugging around the parks.

You could find some mighty CHubby roaches following you around with those in your arms.

wow, you should have that keyboard checked. seems like it throws capital "c"s and "h"s at a very unusually high rate.

Now why would he carry an entire case around Epcot? I'm sure he just carried enough for one meal. :D

Gotta have enough to offer to others who may be curious. ;)

Heck enough of those babies and you could pay for your entire trip just selling them to guests. Surely Disney would not mind, after all they put all those people in the parks just to make life easy for you, right?

Well, that's my take on it. ;) Awful nice of Disney to help me out like that. :p

Not government ones. I'm not sure from where you get your info, but it is wrong. MREs that are produced for and paid for by the U.S. government cannot be legally sold.

MRE article

From the article:

I'm guessing that the ones in the commissary aren't true MRE's then? Or can they be sold by the military to commissary customers? I've never bought one but lately I've noticed the square/rectangle things that say MRE on a shelf for sale. If my husband went shopping with me, he'd buy a few but I don't.
I've also seen them in our BX which you don't have to be military to buy there (except cigarettes and liquor).

if your keys are sticking, you really should get your keyboard cleaned out. sometimes you find crap in the strangest places. tonight i found some in my blockbuster box

Crap in a Blockbuster box! My stars! What a terrible thing to have happen to you. :(

My keyboard is fine; it's practically brand new. I just need to learn how to control it better.

Anyway, question for the OP if he/she hasn't left the DIS already--are you saying that you were actually able to cook and eat one of these MRE things in front of the Castle? On a night when Spectromagic was playing?

That is simply amazing! Spectro couldn't have played more than once or twice a week while you were there. The crowds must have been enormous yet there was room for you and your big stroller and your military stove.

But you are a wonder, aren't you? I don't know how folks like you manage.

The viruses have been traced back to a deadbeat Ebay buyer that I left a Negative feedback to.

To one of the people here: (no names) Ive read your posts. It seems all you EVER do is argue. You haven't agreed with one post yet that I can find, so your posts are irrelevant.
Just for the record.
1) An MRE is much more nutricious than any old greasy fries or burger so "buy the kid a "real meal" is inaccurate. Your facts don't line up. "You have been measured, weighed, and found wanting."
2) Are you on the budget board because you on a budget? Or do you have lots of money and are just plain cheap? Some of you sound like my mother-in-law. Driving a 2004 Altima, living in a $200,000.00 house making me call her on the cellphone cause shes too cheap to dial long distance, while my newest vehicle is a 92 model, and it's for sale and were struggling to add on to our 1000 square foot house. Yes I understood the price of the trip. We did 7 days ON DISNEY PROPERTY ($55.00 per night at Pop Century) with 5 day hopper passes for 4 people (3 passes; the toddler is free) for less than $1000.00. $1150.00 after gas & souvenirs. We did OK, and my children loved the trip.
3) Yes the heater will heat corn. Duh! Get a brain. It creates enough steam to burn you, and the contents of the entree after heating have to cool.
4) Janice whatever... That is an insult. A troll is a sexual demon. Look it up in an old dictionary. I just did. You are saying I sound like a demon. That does offend me. If youve never heard of an MRE you just showed your ignorance. I dont have to point it out to everyone else. Where were YOU when we were at war? I heard several references to MREs on the 6:00 news. BTW,

On the lighter side. (Hoping Beth dont have to close this down) I have met several very nice people here. I appreciate all the positive input and emails. It seems the bad apples do spoil the bunch, or at least put a bad taste in your mouth. But I say thanks to the red delicious apples out there. (Especially cheapmom!)
There really are more of you out there.

Here's one to keep you all talking for weeks.
Last year we took an electric skillet into the resort. (All Stars Movies). We brought along a bag of each; carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, celery, and mixed colored & hot peppers. We also brought in a big bag of chow mein noodles and 2 bottles of Indonesian stir-fry sauce. (different flavors; one was Yogurt something...) (Once again we STOLE expensive plastic utensils, and this time...gasp gasp... we stole paper plates as well. I even took a few of the specially printed "100 Years of Magic" plate sets home to sell on Ebay 10 years from now to collectors! LOL Now That will fume some fiery debates!) (Since I didnt take the soap and shampoo...but I did take a pen.) We had a hot delicious meal every night after a long tiring day in the park. This year we didnt do it, and we really missed it. The remark I heard from several people who were calling home is that they missed a hot plate of vegetables most. That was what they wanted when they got home. We agreed. They are expensive in the park. Next year we are going to Canada or back to Cancun. Havent decided which one yet. By then my recently started up business should be booming and I'll be able to afford it. :hyper: Just finished my taxes. My first year out of the red, and I didnt do half bad.
Until then I'll keep looking at the Sorcerer Mickey antenna ball on my plumbing van and keep dreaming of Illuminations. (Oh yeah, and listening to the Illuminations music I stole off of Kazaa)
I'm cheap because I'm broke. Every dime is invested im my business (just like Walt) When I get to the financial status that some of you are I'm sure at, I wont have to do these little money saving stunts. But I have vowed to never forget what it is like to be on the bottom, and I will never attack those who are.
This has been fun. But I'm signing off. Gotta add the Dis board to my deleted Email folder
Janice, you need help. Your a real heartless sick person. I wish you the worst life has to offer. You deserve it. May dogs pee in your cup when you are not looking.

But you are a wonder, aren't you? Thinking up all these money-saving ideas AND dealing with the heart wrenching pain of a child with Assburger's. I don't know how folks like you manage.

Janice, that comment about his child was a totally low blow!!!!
Only a real sick human would find that remotely funny.

If you had read and understood the post telling how these are heated up, you would not have had to show us how lacking you are in reading comprehension.

Wow..I am stunned! I can't believe that some of you have your undies in such a bunch!!.. over what??...a less than 1 cent piece of plastic cutlery taken from the multi- Billion dollar Disney Corp???! ..OH Please!!
And for some of these mocking replies to be coming from long term members of the DIS?..people we should be able to put trust in and rely on?!?!..What a shame!!

Chile (innocently!) posted and shared something that helped their family a lot and may help others too, anything to cut the costs of the outrageous Disney prices..well placed on the budget board!! I see nothing wrong with that!

As for the MRE meals..call the authorities!! There's an Ocean State Job Lot store near me that needs to be shut down!! They dared to offer these meals at the price of 2/$1.00! It's a 'surplus/slightly irregular' kind of store that offers bargains and discounts for 'the rest of us'!

Let me be the first to admit that I'm not a millionaire!..I'm just grateful to be able to take my kids on their first trip to Disney World at all..even if it's on a budget!.. the more costs cutting I can do, the better for us !!! ;)

We won't be using MRE meals while at Disney, but I Thank You Chili, for your suggestion..I'm sure others will be using your advise while planning their trips! :)

I'm guessing that the ones in the commissary aren't true MRE's then? Or can they be sold by the military to commissary customers?

They aren't the MREs that the government buys for the troops, no.

Hey, buy 'em up! I'm just saying that if they are the government issue MREs, then that store is breaking the law, period. If they want to do that, that's their issue, not mine. I'm just telling you what the law is.

Did you say I'm ignorant, Gail? Or was it heartless? Before you start tracking me down for blood, I suggest you look up what "Asburger's syndrome" means.

And reading comprehension isn't a problem for me; I might be one of the few posters on this thread who actually understood what it was about. Clearly, you didn't get it.

I can't believe this thread survived the night! I guess moderators need to sleep too.

Have a CHarming day, folks! :)

If you are buying them for $.50 from garage sales, you are not buying the surplus MREs that you can buy legally from MXs or miliatary surplus stores. You are buying the ones issued to field personnel that were unused - or possibly MREs donated to food shelves that are being resold - someone got them for free in order to sell them for less than a $1. Those are the ones that AFR is saying are illegal to resell (although I'm not sure if they are illegal to purchase or just illegal to resell). I'm sure the MPs are not going to come after you from buying or selling them, and that those rules are in place more for people inclined to sell surplus jeeps than MREs, but there are laws, regardless of how likely you are to get caught.

I would think that regardless of how you feel about "contraband" MREs and filtched tablewear, its an awfully lot of work to find yard sales selling MREs at a price that makes the savings worth the effort of finding them and hauling them in - unless you happen to live by a base or know someone who has extras from their duty, or get lucky and find irregular MREs at Big Lots. Probably much easier to buy a jar of peanut butter, or that tuna in a pouch from Sams Club and bring in sandwiches.

I would ask that anyone heating MREs with a heater hot enough to heat corn to the point that the steam would burn you would think carefully about their surroundings. The heating element can burn someone, and is probably best done in uncrowded situations. (People who insist on carrying hot coffee through the parks should take the same precautions.)

OK, I have had enough. I am closing this thread.

Chilehead, when Jersey Janice said that you were a CHtroll (on my darned keyboard!!! ) here was her meaning. On the internet, a troll is someone who just posts to make trouble. The "accidental" CH before the word troll was a reference to a group called Club Hell which who used to hang out on these boards. So she is saying that she thinks that you are someone from Club Hell just here to cause trouble.

Call me naive, but I believe that she is in error, that you posted your posts in order to get information and to pass on hints.

So that's it everyone. This thread is finished. Find something else innane to argue about...
