If we decide to eat at AKL after closing, in order to get back to our hotel (ASM) we would have to take a bus to a park that is still open and then bus to ASM, correct?

Is it worth spending some time to look around AKL and eat there?

2nd question first:

Yes -- IMHO, AKL & WL tie for the most beautifully themed WDW resort lobbies. There is also wildlife viewing out back, and at times they have night vision goggles available for loan. Off to the left of the lobby, there's a little lounge that has a display of artifacts from an early 20th century safari (whether they're real or Imagineered, I don't know.)

Transportation -- yes, to get to ASM by Disney Transport, you would need to go to an open park or DTD and then travel back to your resort. But the All-Stars are so close to AKL, it would probably be worth it to take a taxi (unless you want to visit DTD or a park after dinner.) I'd guess a taxi would be in the $10 range; you can request a van for the same price if you have more than 4 but less than 8 in the party.

I second using a cab. Several times I've stayed at the Allstar resorts before transferring over the AKV. I take the cab over because they are so close. The cost was $10 including the tip.
