Eat at home

Our grocery store sushi is good but not always cost friendly. I buy the whole wheat Kangaroo pita pockets and make pita pocket pizzas. You can add whatever fresh topping you want and some pizza sauce. Pop it in the oven for 5 minutes and lunch is served! I also try to use last nights left overs for lunch. If I have extra money for the week or a good coupon I will buy some Lean Cusine or Weight Watchers meals. My kids are also crazy about soup at hand from Cambells. Meat loaf muffins I make can be frozen in single portions and microwaved.

Sushi at the grocery store around here is actually good. One of them(not all of them:sick:) Even buying that to have on hand is cheaper than going out.

We have a grocery store that does this but it's not very good

And it's cheaper for tak out at the restrain for lunch they run a special for lunch of picking two rolls plus soup 9$

Well we ate lunch out yesterday. I really need to buy more food to have extra of for lunch. I focus. Just on diner and that's why we are so tempted to eat out. I have already planned out our menu for next week. :thumbsup2 what does everyone else do for lunches? Sandwiches? Leftovers?

Tonight we are having taco salad
Friday pizza and fries plus a Disney movie
Saturday w were invited over to m dh uncles
Sunday kids are sleeping at my moms and dh and I are celebrating my birthday at the melting pot.

March 1 no eat out day

Lunch is our downfall as well, especially if we are our running errands. We tend to eat a lot of leftovers for lunches. Like tomorrow we will heat up the leftover stew from tonight. Some days we have sandwiches or soups.

Recipe is on Allears. It came out tasting a lot like it does at Boma! Would have been cheaper had I already had curry powder, and had I skipped the herb they use for garnish. Got chicken breasts on sale, and already had stock from Costco, flour, etc, so we were good to go. Doubled the recipe, so I have enough for lunch today! Thinking the 12 tbs of butter and 8 ox of honey is not so healthy, but I'll try to only make this as a special treat. Anybody make any of the WDW recipes that came out really tasty & don't cost a lot? We have two WDW cookbooks, so those recipes are ok as well.

If you have gotten the hang of planning your dinners, you can plan your lunches, too.

Our go-to lunch is grilled cheese, soup and fruit. Easy to make, everyone likes it and affordable.

My big push for planning is that I hate grocery shopping. So, I plan every meal and snack for the week, write down what I would need and then check the current supplies. We do have to go to the store mid-week for more milk and bananas but that is all.

I do this on a simple spreadsheet that has six sections for each day (Breakfast, Morning snack, Lunch, Afternoon snack, Dinner, Bedtime snack) and a special section for the lunches we bring to work and school. I reference the store flyer for the store I am going to that week to see what is on sale before I make a plan.

The best part about it is that we almost always stick to the plan and throw out very little produce.

Holy super amazing! Thats great. I can imagine it would make it easier once it's done.

My family did a rare thing and ate fast food for dinner last night. We NEVER stop and grab dinner on a weeknight anymore. I'm still not great about eating lunches at home and we eat out at least once every weekend but weeknight dinners are alwasy at home. My hubby had the kids at the dentist, they finished up at dinner time and my oldest asked if we could have Mexican fast food for dinner. i always so no but yesterday I said what the heck! But you know since we never do it it was such a treat! The best part was not having to clean up my kitchen after dinner!:laughing: As nice as it was it was a one time thing and we're back on track for eating at home.:rolleyes1

So yesterday was a good day

we had whatever was around for lunch and had tacos for diner
today we had lunch at home but my husband wants to take us out for diner because he went back to work today. Where should we go?:rolleyes:

So far this month
March 1 and 3 no eat out days.:dance3:

Tacos tonight

Turkey breast(that was on sale at Meijer a couple weeks ago) for Sat

Need to sit down and make out my list for next week.

My mom treated me to lunch at Pannera Bread today...I had a giant Greek salad and whole grain roll. Yummy;)

I knew I would be full from eating out when it was time to cook for tonight and that's BAD cause then I don't feel like cooking and we grab something. So, this morning I put everything into the crockpot for my Sausage Potato Stew just so that wouldn't happen. I just came in and the house smells wonderful. I will make a pan of cornbread to go with the stew and dinner is ready!

This week went really well for us. I am going to go sit and plan a few days menus right now.

Thanks to everyone taking part in this thread. It's wonderful to be a part of something so encouraging:hug:

I can probably count on one hand how many times we've eaten out since October. Do you find that when you do eat out, you don't like it as much as you used to? I keep thinking how much money we could be saving by eating at home, and I must admit, I'm a really good cook!! I just don't enjoy eating out like I used to. Guess I'm really jumping on the frugal bandwagon :rolleyes1

ITA!! We went out a few weeks ago and I thought, GEE! I could have made this at home a lot cheaper and healthier!

EXACTLY!! That is me to a T. I am always thinking "I could of bought 3 bags of groceries for what this meal costs" or "Wow, this is so not worth the money I could of made it better.":thumbsup2

I love an occasional treat out but it has to be REALLY good and inexpensive to make it in my book...lol

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well:banana:

Tonight instead of going out I made pizza and fries with a salad. Now we are watching bambi

This month no eat out days march 1,3,&4

Tomorrow we are eating at a family members house

Day before yesterday, frozen lean cuisine and celery for dinner at work, oatmeal for breakfast/lunch.

Yesterday, oatmeal, then pizza from the ambulance company and fruit from my friend.

Today, yep, oatmeal, then steak, green beans, asparagus

and rolls for dinner. Very yummy, but now my stomach hurts as I rarely eat meat anymore.

Well my menu has been thrown off. My Grandma decided at the last minute to have everyone over for dinner on Sunday. My cousins are home for spring break and since they have finals beginning the day after Easter next month they will not be coming home for the weekend, so she wants to have Easter dinner with the whole family on Sunday. So I reworked our menu a bit.

Tonight (sat)- Pork and sweet potato casserole
Sunday- Grandma's
Monday- Multigrain waffles with sausage
Tuesday- Cheesy ham and hashbrown casserole with carrots
Wednesday- Sweet potato gnocchi with warm spinach salad
Thursday- Pork souvlaki with cucumber yogurt sauce, grilled pita, and couscous
Friday- Roasted veggie angelhair pasta

Ok here is another recipe that was a big hit using the ever inexpensive chicken thighs

Chicken,sausage and potato bites

Chicken pieces(I use bone in skin on)
Sausage cut into bite size pieces
Olive oil
Red potatoes cut into bite size(I didn't have them and subbed Idaho)
Rosemary

Heat oven to 450

season chicken with salt and pepper
Microwave potatoes for 10 minutes, or boil for 10(our microwav died)
Sauté sausage in olive oil
Brown and transfer to a 13x9 baking dish
Add chicken pieces and brown (about 8 minutes)
transfer to the baking dish

Drain potatoes and sauté in pan to brown
Transfer to baking dish
Sprinkle with Rosemary and bake for 15 minutes
Stir sprinkle with. Cup of red wine vinegar and cook for another 15 minutes or until all cooked through.
Serve!

We were out of town 2 nights last week, so lots of eating out. This week will be none. We have out of town soccer tournament the last weekend of March and then the next weekend we leave for WDW. So until then, NO EATING OUT is the goal. Here is my menu this week:

Sunday: Roast, m.potatoes, carrots, celery and onions;
Monday: Chicken and white bean casserole in the crockpot;
Tuesday: Turkey Tetrazini;
Wednesday: Fish, rice pilaf and peas;
Thursday: Pork chops, 3 cheese potatoes and corn of the cob;
Friday: Pizza; and
Saturday: Meatloaf, m. potatoes, g. beans
