Eat at home

I'm proud to say we have cut what we have spent eating out in half for the month of October! In August we spent $500 (gasp!) and October we will spend around $250. In November I'd like to get it down to under $200. It's hard when kids keep needing money to eat out for school events!

That is so cool! Great job!:cool1:

Ugh. Decided to do weight watchers online as I'd really like to lose 15 lbs before our trip to Hawaii at Christmas. It makes cooking so much less fun :( .
The weight watchers cooking books are awesome. You can find a lot of recipes here at www.aimeesadventures.com.

My favorite thing to eat every day for lunch was pita pocket pizzas
two halves of kangaroo pita pockets
1 TBSP pizza sauce for each pocket
all the free veggies you want
a pinch of cheese for 2 points

Also I got the fat free imitation crab today and that is good with a TBSP of mayo or Miracle Whip and a stalk of celery in a pita for 3pts.

Dinner I loved having the chicken quesidillas I believe its 7 points per serving
I still make this one for my family.

two tortillas, (try to find the multigrain or wheat for the fiber)
1 3oz chicken breast
1/2 cup salsa
1 handful of ready made salad
1/4 cup shreaded cheese for filling

dice and brown chicken breast. When cooked mix with the salsa, and lettuce. Spread mixture on the tortillas. Add the cheese and toast on both sides in a pan. I always serve this with spanish rice on the side.

Shopping day here today! It didn't help we have hurricane force winds here in WI today:) It was double double coupon day here today. It was also a meat week but the upside is I saved $35.00 in coupons. There was also a $19.00 value package so I got 3 packs of bologna, 3 OM snack packs with ham/ cheese/ and juice and the other one is pizza and juice, and 3 packs of hot dogs.

Here is what the menu is like for this week.

Tilapia and a potato (tuesday)
meatball subs homemade (monday)
crockpot homemade hearty veggie soup today
mini bbq turkey burger sliders and sweet potato fritters
chicken ala king over rice
shephards pie with sweet potatoes instead of regular
hotdogs
crockpot bbq ribs on trick or treat Saturday

I actually did roast all my root vegtables that I have had kicking around the fridge and also I roasted brussel sprouts I had gotten from my CSA share. We had the roasted veggies with roasted rosemary chicken on Tuesday. Yesterday I combined the leftover roasted veggies (brussel sprouts, butternut squash, carrots and turnips) in the crockpot with a small container of frozen chicken stock I had (leftover homemade, maybe 2 pints) still needed more liquid so I added 3 cups of water and 3 bullion cubes. Kept it in the crockpot on low for 3 hours then used my stick blender to puree it. It was good. I liked it, my picky MIL and DH loved it (go figure!) and my kids didn't want to try their required bite! My little one ended up liking it (although still only ate a couple bites) but my oldest DD hated it!

Tonight it's just me and the kids and I thought I'd take them out but then I decided it's not worth the money or the hassle so I'm doing breakfast for dinner! Pancakes, bacon and fresh fruit :woohoo: I'm proud for finding something easy that isn't eating out! Friday is pasta with meatsauce and salad, Saturday we're at a Halloween Party and Sunday I'm making homemade pizza.:thumbsup2 I'm feeling like my meals are really heavy on the carbs lately but I guess McDonalds is heavy on the carbs too! I'm going to try to tone down the carb fest next week!

Tonight we are having a fully freezer/ pantry meal of frozen pierogies with applesauce from the pantry.

Tomorrow I am using up some leftovers and making Giada's lemon spaghetti chicken soup.

Thanks for this thread.. it gives me the motivation to continue to cook here at home.. Im loving seeing what everyone else is making..

Last night was Trail Burgers
Tonight is Meatloaf and mashed potatatoes
Tomorrow is Chicken Tacos
Saturday and Sunday is leftovers...

I already have next weeks grocery shopping done..

Monday is Vegetable Chicken Noodle Casserole
Tuesday is Grilled cheese and Chicken noodle soup
Wednesday is Grilled chicken and veggies
Thursday is Taco Bake
Friday is leftovers..

My goal is to eat at home every night of the week and do one Pizza or take out night a month-- The end..

We spend so much money when we get takeout or go out and eat and now that Im not working I need to make the dollars stretch where I can.. This is one of those areas..

I stink. We didn't get near home until 7:00 last night after a late night Dr's appt. I had to drop off and then pick up a prescription that I had to give to DD that night. We dropped off the presecription, ate McDonalds 'dine-in' and got the prescription on the way home. :rolleyes1 What can you do. I'm back on the horse now, breakfast for dinner tonight.

You know, that is what is great about at least TRYING to eat at home as much as possible. Since you are not spending (wasting) the money eating out as often, when a situation comes up like yours, it makes the decision less of an issue. It's not "Oh lord, we have eaten out 5 times this week"... it's "Stuff happens and we at out once". At least for me, by eating at home as much as I can, it means the occasional eating out doesn't make me feel as guilty about the decision.

Tonight we had grilled hotdogs. So tomorrow I will serve the left over hotdogs cut up and put into some baked beans and make some corn bread.

friend of mine gave me a recipe for can't wait to try. Take a large onion, turn it upside down and cut out the core. Stick 2 beef boyon cubes in the hole along with a 1/2 stick of "I can't believe it's not butter". Wrap tightly in foil and cook on the grill for 45 minutes. It taste just like french onion soup.

Also trying chocolate pumpkin muffins. One large can of pumpkin, one box of devils food cake. Mix the two together ( you don't need to add, egg or oil). put batter into muffin tins. bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Has 181 calories and 3.5 grams of fat.

Well last night I caved and we had takeout. My mom was sick yesterday and I ended up pulling a muscle while moving some stuff around the house so my aunt ended up bringing us take out for dinner. Hopefully tonight will go smoother.

Last night we caved too. I hurt my mouth on both sides and can only drink things it hurts and I can not chew. Not fun at all
