What a coincidence. I first heard about chocolate gravy on the Biggest Loser the other day and now you guys are talking about it! I love chocolate and I love gravy but somehow it just doesn't sound good to me. :)

Oh dear... I've not been in planning ahead mode the last couple of days and that is not good. I have some left over chicken here we can do for lunch or dinner. I guess I need to run down to the freezer downstairs and figure out what else I can do today.

I had been planning a feast for thursday and then I found out last minute we are "expected" at my husbands brothers house. This always happens with his family, if they have a thing it is a last minute thing. whatever. I'll have to go to the farm and pick up our turkey tomorrow and just come home and cook it that night. None of the other preparations are really thrown off, especially since this time I actually got a few days notice. lol. My daughter wants to make an apple pie so I can still do that with her and take it with us. I never know with his family what they think is a good thing and invariably end up feeling like whatever we did was the opposite of good for them, but I've learned to just not care too much. ;)

I'm a little bumbed because I make really good Thanksgiving food and I'm never comfortable hangin out with DH's family pretending that any of them have a relationship with us. But oh well. Its just for one day and then I can do a "wrong day" thing with my family.

Sorry for the venting! Y'all are the best!

Aren't in-laws wonderful? :sad2: My MIL invited us there for Thanksgiving, but she never did tell us what time to be there...well yesterday she told us it would be dinner time. Why dinner instead of lunch as usual??? Well, because she has invited my best friend's ex-husband over to join us...they JUST got divorced a few weeks ago! :scared1: Can anyone say AWKWARD?!?!!! DH is so mad that she is putting us in this situation. He jokingly suggested we leave the kids there for dinner while we go do dinner and movie by ourselves! :rotfl2: sure do wish we could for real!

Top Round was on sale, so I'm finding all kinds of ways to use it.

Baked Potatoes

Peas

Monday
Beef Stroganoff over Egg Noodles
Green Beans

Tuesday

Thanksgiving at my Sister's house... I don't know what I'll take... I was thinking about this Broccoli Cheese & Cracker Casserole from my new favorite food blogger - Pioneer Woman. Or maybe I'll try her Green Bean Casserole, which also looks divine.

I'm hoping I can snag some leftover turkey to make her Turkey Tetrazzini. OMG does that look good!

I'd be saying "That sucks... I already had plans. Sorry. Enjoy your meal!". I do NOT do changes of plans well and would not be happy at all if a family member tried that on me. And they would not be happy with my reaction either haha.

Good luck!

Tonight we did a leftover/clean out the fridge night. Tomorrow is trash day and I am trying to get the fridge down to the bare minimum so we have room for everything on thursday.

Haha. We have gotten away with that a few times over the years, when the "short notice" was like the day before we were "expected". but in the interest of not being guilty of separating my DH from his family all together I try to play along when I feel like I can cope even a little. Although I'm not a big drinker, I'm taking a Samuel Smith's Organic hard cider with me for me (this will not seem odd to DH's family they all bring personal containers of booze to family gatherings:confused3) and a bottle of mead for a hostess present. :lmao:

They go to the same church. He stayed at the church after the divorce, she left...MIL knows it will be weird for us, just doesn't really care. :headache:

Dinner and a movie night at home tonight:

Homemade Hot Wings
Chipped Beef Cheeseball and Crackers
Mini Tacos

We are renting CARS 2!!!

If you were closer I would say send your DH off to them and then come over here for dinner! Not like I wouldn't have enough food (12.8 lb turkey for 3 of us)! Hope it goes well for you!

Tonight is:
Chicken Wings
Cheese and Crackers
Harry and David Pepper and Onion Dip with Chips
Jalapeno Poppers

MMMM- are we on the same page for dinner or what??? I was gonna get some pepper poppers and changed my mind....I will probably HAVE to go get some now, because you have me craving them again...such a bad influence you are! :rotfl2: BTW- maybe DH and I will leave the kids with MIL and her awkward guest and hop over to your house for Thanksgiving! LOL! Where in TN are you? I live 30 miles east of Nashville... Not trying to be a stalker, promise I won't REALLY show up for Thanksgiving!

I missed the beginning of the week!
Sunday was chicken curry w/basmati rice and veggies.
Monday was spaghetti and salad
Tuesday was eat out night (due to Scouts)
Wed (tonight) will be either pizza or Chinese (I am cooking all day today and I am not cooking dinner on top of it)

Thurs: turkey, fixin's
Friday: turkey, fixins
Saturday turkey, fixins (ok, I'll probably break down and do something else for dinner, lol)

I didn't know how much I would like mead till really recently, although I'd always wanted to try it. The stuff I bought to take is exactly what my husband recently bought for me so that I could finally try some mead, sweet guy, and it is amazing, really complex and tasty. It is made in South Africa and is called Iqhilika. Maybe if I knew how it was pronounced that would seem like a pretty name to me. :rotfl: But as it is I'll just love it for the taste. :cloud9: The label also says "honey sun" at the very top and African Herbal Blossom in the middle just over top of a big graphic with a face in the middle. I think the graphic is kind of neat since is seems like both the sun and a daisy at the same time.

Since I like to cook and I already had my farm fresh turkey on order.... I just decided to go all out at home today. I boiled some potatoes last night. I brined a turkey overnight in a cooler on the deck. So far today, my two daughters and I have made a pumpkin pie, two small apple pies, and a green bean dish. Our pies are totally from scratch. :lovestruc I really enjoy doing that. DD11 has torn up a bunch of gluten free rolls for our stuffing we will be making soon. And I am about to stand up and go make either mashed potatoes or potato leek soup.... I haven't decided which.... I hope the an impulse strikes me when I get in the kitchen. :lmao: After that all that will be left will be putting the stuffing together and in the bird and then the roasting of THE BIRD. Oh and gravy after that, of course. I have the giblets cooking on the stove top for that. That was actually what really got me going to make everything I'd planned on making. DH found out that his brother was planning on gravy from a jar and offered to bring gravy so that we could make a gluten free one that I could have some of.

This way, I can take a plate with me and not worry about whether or not I can have anything other than the turkey. I'm so glad DH had the good sense to tell them to not worry about my gluten problem and to just let me work around it! I love to cook!

I am a horrible influence! Yea, I am cooking and prepping all day today and cooking all day tomorrow so I was NOT also cooking dinner. I don't have the time or the energy at this point (though I only have to finish the peanut butter pie and I am done for today... waiting on the whipped topping to thaw because I didn't thaw enough). My back is killing me too...

We are out in the Johnson City area. So it would be a pretty long trip haha!

Tonight we are having Cincinnati Chili from the freezer over baked potatoes. Simple yet easy for the night before turkey day.

I cooked all day but we're having gumbo from the freezer :confused3

So far I'm finished with:
Cornbread dressing
Sweet potatoes
Country club squash
Carrot cake

The turkey is in the brine

Still to do:
Roast turkey
Cut up fruit for fruit tray
Butterbeans
Make salad and salad dressing

and probably a whole lot of stuff I'm forgetting!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I just got home from work. I injected the turkeys this morning. One with a Grand Marnier marinade and the other with pesto.

I am making deviled eggs tonight and the cranberry sauce. Tomorrow I will make the stuffing, twice baked sweet potatoes, cheesy mashed potatoes, a veggie, and rolls. (probably forgot something lol) DH will fry the turkeys.
My mom is making the pumpkin pies and coleslaw.

@LilyWDW oooooh a foodie blog! I'm there. :thumbsup2

(I just noticed. hehe.);)

Yea, but it is way behind. I simply have not had the time to work on it with school kicking my behind. I do hope to pick it back up soon though. Maybe make posting there a must do at least once a week and then work from there.
