Easy to edit reservations?

I have a question. How easy is it to switch reservations? We are almost positive we are going to purchase APs this year for our trip. It is a 10 day trip and we are planning another lengthy trip next year (within 12 months).

Back to the original question - if we were to book our room only reservation now will it be relatively easy to change... If for some reason better discounts come out. Right now there are no discounts for our dates - and we aren't necessarily counting on them coming out.

I know this may sound silly, but I just want some reassurance. We are definitely going and our dates are set in stone because of a wedding. I just tend to worry about things like this.

Sorry. Thanks for your time.

Impossible to edit or change anything online. You'd have to call directly to make any changes. But I did book a room only several months ago. When a room-only discount came out I just called them and they made the changes - no problems. The only issue was the long distance charges....we don't have a LD plan

Yes and no. They call it "applying" but in reality you are checking for availability under a promotion and booking that instead. When you have a room only, they essentially transfer your information and usually keep the same reservation number. They also apply your original deposit to the new reservation. It's seamless and very easy. But there's no guarantee that your room dates and category will be available under the discount so you may have to switch. You don't automatically get the discount applied on your exact same room.

So bottom line, I can't assure you that everything will stay the same if you want to apply a discount.

As the pp said, making changes to a reservation is easy. The only problem you may run into is if your resort/room type isn't available under the promo should one come out. Sometimes people have to be flexible with their dates and/or resort in order to take advantage of a discount. One other thing to remember is if you book room only now and a deal comes out that requires a package to be booked and you want to change to that, the room only ressie would have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. But if you are looking for just a room discount, it can easily be applied to your current ressie pending availability.

I made my room only reservations in June, 2011 for our January, 2012 trip. No discounts were available so I made them at rack rate. Then, a general public discount came out sometime in October or November of 2011 so I changed the reservation over to that. A week later, an annual passholder rate came out so I changed the changed reservation yet again. So I made three changes to the reservation with no problems.

You do have to call but it's well worth it.

Somewhat related: I had a room-only reservation using AP rate for a resort that was available at the time and my preferred resort was not. I kept checking on line and a few days later my preferred resort became available under the AP rate. When I called to make the change, the CM couldn't find the availability so I got online and booked it on its on then called and cancelled my original. A new one-night downpayment was required and my original was refunded in a few days.

Maybe I had "tied up" the available room for a short period when I did my search even though I did back out and close my browser before calling WDW to reserve. It was there immediately after I got off the phone though.
