Eastern or "Special" Western?

I'm trying to decide between a Halloween 2006 Eastern or the 11/11/06 Special Western that goes to Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Castaway Cay twice. A few questions for the experts...is the risk of hurricanes greater at one over the other? is the weather any better at one or the other? which itinerary do you think is better in general and for my kids who will be DD9 and DS5 at the time? do they do special things on the halloween cruise that would make it a better choice? Help! :D

If you get a good DIS group going and do your own Halloween thing it is incredible. Wasn't that impressed with DCL's trick-or-treat; we were thankful we did our own, the kids loved it.

The adult party/costume contest is fun and the ship is nicely decorated for Halloween (atrium, balloons, entrances to restaurants, etc.)

I don't like Mexico as much as Grand Cayman or St. Maarten/St. Thomas so that would play into my decision. Although it is technically hurricane season, there are few late Oct/Nov storms - I would think the Eastern might stand more of chance as the water is warmed because it's farther south. However, you could pick either and end up with the other IF there is a hurrican as they try to avoid the area.

Is your family a beach family? If so, the two trips to Castaway would probably please you more. Do you like excursions? What kind - ruins would lead you towards the Western, boating adventures would lead me to the Eastern.

Both are great IMO! We didn't have to choose this time because we wanted New Years so we're doing Western again.

I'm kind of thinking that since we're doing the West Coast Mexico cruise in 2005, maybe we should do the Eastern. I guess both are technically during hurricane season, so that isn't really a consideration. It might be fun to be on a Halloween cruise...Christmas is out of the question because the cost is double!!! Does anyone know when they decorate for Christmas? Would the ship be decorated for Christmas on November 11th?

mommykeg, we just booked, today, the 11/11/06 cruise today :) just for the ports.
We feel it will be just a very relaxing cruise. We have been to Costa Maya (love Uvero Beach) once and Cozumel many times (love it here too) and LOVED CC on our Wonder cruise a few years ago.
Let me know if you book the 11/11/06, we can keep each other company for the next two years LOL
