easter-what r your kids getting/want.

most likely his big Easter present will be some cash so he can buy a Lord of the Rings set at Games Workshop
plastic eggs w/be filled w/Reese peanut butter cos I know I wont be tempted

One year my children got a basket from EB, my mother and my MIL. Two children had 3 baskets each. We had to put a stop to that big time. I told the grandmothers that it was appreciated but it spoiled the children so much that they were starting to not appreciate what the EB brought them.

At Christmas, my MIL gives them more presents than Santa.
 She is starting to get the message.

My 3DSs get a small amount of candy in their baskets. After all who needs it when I still have Halloween candy left around the house. We like to let them have a gift hunt. They are each getting a DVD and Disney Dollars to hunt for.

I'd much rather give a small gift than candy. JMO

We usually get DD stuff she can play with outside. One year it was a wheelbarrow with gardening tools, last year it was a Cinderella beach chair and towel. This years it's a little table with umbrella and matching chairs. I have to go over to Costco later and buy it.

I don't spend a lot of money either but I don't like a lot of candy so I would rather give a few small gifts instead of candy. It sure isn't Christmas and I'm spending under $50 for both of them.

To me, it is worth it to spend a bit extra and get them things they can actually use and will last longer than candy. Not to mention, when trying to teach your children that candy should be eaten in moderation...it can confuse to give them a basket full of it and tell them they can only have a few pieces. Half of it gets pitched.

PS: Tiggerlover - We had Kinder Eggs in Canada. My daughter loves them. We have something in the states now similar called a Wonderball but it has more candy inside instead of a little toy. The candy is shaped like characters from a Disney movie.

My sentiments exactly.

Edited to reflect Toys R Us trip:
DS (10) is getting a chocolate nascar bunny, rubixs cube, finger skate board, dominos & preditor card game.
DS (8) is getting a chocolate nascar bunny, matchbox car, $1.98 micro machine set, trick card deck & generic version of Jenga.

Total for each came to about $30. Will probably have an egg hunt at my aunt's house on Easter Sunday.

As kids, my siblings and I used to get one small gift in with our Easter basket, so we continue the tradition with DS. We're probably getting him a Dora Spanish Bingo game he's looked at before. :)

We don't do candy. (We also don't do the Easter Bunny thing)
DD6's eggs have small items like Barbie accesories or jewlery in them. Her "basket" is always something useful like a backpack, wagon, etc., this year it's a large Barbie lunchbox style tin (purchased on clearance after Christmas, it had popcorn in it). Inside will be a dish set (plate, bowl, cup, spoon and fork), and a mini Cinderella doll. Everything was purchased on clearance, and the total cost for everything, including the items in the eggs (4 dozen eggs), is about $12.

Last year we did give her a bike. Her birthday is in Dec., or she would have gotten it as a birthday gift.

My 3 are getting sand pails with shovels instead of baskets, and I bought alot of little easter items from the dollar store to fill it, along with 3 small stuffed bunnies for each. I always put alot of little stuff in there along with one nice toy. I will put a Barbie in my daughter's basket, probably an action figure in my oldest ones basket and I haven't decided what to get my little boy for his basket.

SANTA could not fit a Powerwheels motorcycle in his sleigh so he left a note that the EASTER BUNNY would be bringing it!!!!!:hyper:

The Easter Bunny left a jeep for DD two Easters ago. We usually just receive a Disney movie and some candy and maybe a small toy (hot wheels, polly pocket).

Happy Easter to All!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

my DD(13) wants a purse from Aldo(thought i was going to die when i saw the price..its a purse!!) and a pink necklace from American Eagle besides her candy
My other DD(18) wants no candy as she is on the South Beach Diet and only wants a burberry scarf(died at that one too...but if she wants it...)
My DS(19) wants candy, and the godfather collection....or the matrix trilogy

I try and have 1 spring time movie and some learning things like this year she is getting the pictures that you have to lace up and a couple small puzzles from the dollar store and the EB does hide plastic eggs with money and fruit snacks in them!!

I had to make two Easter baskets, one for my daughter and another for my cousin's daughter.
In my daughter's basket since she is only 19 months old, I had put a Barney coloring book, crayons, bubbles, magnetic alphabets, candy, bunny drinking cup, flower mirror, ...

Jack is getting "Brother Bear" and Megan will probably get Mall certificates.... and a chocolate bunny for each. That's it!

I hear the Easter Bunny is bringing DS Brother Bear, some cars, play doh accessories and some candy.

:)

I was so relieved to see a few posts wondering about giving gifts for Easter. My kids are over 25 and I have no grandchildren yet. I had never heard of giving easter toys.

When I was a kid we usually got a new hat to wear to church LOL

I am blown away by the mini Christmas some folks are having out there. I'm with you, Doc Rafiki. It is one thing that Christmas got commercialized and basically secular, but now Easter! For Christians, Easter, along with Holy Week are the most sacred of all holy days. It really saddens me to see all of the Easter decorating and festivities that occur in the weeks BEFORE Easter. The Lenten season is not about celebrating. We wait for Easter to do that. Then we rejoice like crazy. I will probably get flamed for this, but I wish that people who do not celebrate Easter would not commercialize and secularize the holy day by "celebrating" Easter.

BTW--yes we will put together a modest basket and have an egg hunt for our son--but will surely wait until Easter to do so.

We try not to give the kids too much candy either. DD will be getting the Disney Princess books form Avon. DS ~ Brother Bear.

Wait... people give gifts now for Easter? It would never occur to me to ask for anything, either! The whole gift overload thing is what ruined Christmas for me; I see people are starting to do the same with Easter. :(

The holiday is to you what YOU make of it- nobody can ruin it for you but YOU.

Nobody ever said that by giving a gift or two, they're not also recognizing the day as the sacred religious occasion that it is. The two things (Easter as a religious holiday and Easter as a secular "celebration") are mutually exclusive, IMO.
