Easter at your house

Other than candy, what do you buy for your kids at Easter. When I was a child the egg hunt was the big thing. Then we got some other candy/chocolate and a small toy like a skipping rope or something else for spring. I have continued this tradition with my kids. They are older now...18,14 and 10 but they still enjoy the hunt the most. Just wondering what everyone else does for their kids...no matter how eggstravagant!!

When my boys were younger, we'd put in bubbles, sidewalk chalk, maybe a video or a book. As they got a bit older, we'd put in Pokemon or YuGiOh cards.

They are now 14 and 11 and I'm trying to think what I could put in there, without going overboard...I'm thinking maybe an iTunes card and then maybe fill some of the plastic eggs with cash - coins, dollar bills. I dunno. I hope somebody else posts with some good ideas! :)

My kids (my sons when they were little and dd now) have always gotten some type of big outside game or toy--volleyball set, horseshoe game, tether ball set, etc. The basket for dd always includes bubbles, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, jacks, books and maybe a video and a little bit of candy--not too much.

I still do baskets for my grown sons and dil--candy, hats, t-shirt or 2, sunglasses, sunblock, flipflops--things to get ready for summer.

Here, it's kind of like Christmas. We do the baskets and I budget approx. $100 a kid as far as presents go. They make the Easter Bunny a list just like Santa. We also do the egg hunt and I hide 30-40 dollars in eggs to be found. The kids ages are 16,7,4. And this year my baby sister is flying in for the holiday with us-she's 21; so another "kid" I have to do a basket for.:lmao:

Maybe it would be easier to get my 18 year old out of bed of I hid money in the eggs!! Thanks for the idea!

We hide money in the eggs here too...and my DS is only 5:rolleyes1.

This year, we are surprising DD's 11 and 13 with tickets to see Taylor Swift. I can't wait for easter. Keeping this secret has been hard !!

We do a traditional Easter basket with candy and a chocolate bunny. We hide plastic eggs, sometimes empty, sometimes with candy in them.

My mom hides eggs either inside or outside depending on the weather with candy in them. We also each get a basket with some things we like. And also, we have to wear bunny ears. ;)

It's fun though. I'm glad I'm not too old for stuff like this.

one year we put chuck e cheese tokens inside the eggs and that was a HUGE hit:thumbsup2

this year it's going to be very little candy (they realy don't end up eating it whereas dh and i do which is not good). i think the eggs will be a mix of chuck e cheese tokens, some cash (no paper-quarters and dimes so as not to break the budget)-then in their baskets some yugioh cards for ds, one of those pokemon magazines he's always drooling over and some small stuff. dd saved enough for an i-pod so i think she would like an i-tunes gift card and then i can always grab one of those cheap dvds (talking like the $5.99 bin :lmao:). all in all nothing huge.

btw-if you've got more than one kid and the older one always ends up finding the bulk of the eggs i'll pass on a tip that's worked for us. each year the easter bunny gets 2 sheets of stickers (one to dd's taste, one to ds's) and leaves a note telling them which eggs are for each kid. then they hunt but they are only allowed to grab the egg that has their designated sticker on it (this works realy well if you do the cash or tokens in the eggs-then your ensured of both kids getting an even split).

Easter is a small christmas at my house too. I try to keep it at about 100$ a kid (which is still very expensive when ya got 4!) Last year we did bikes and scooters. This year we are doing a shared present of a swing set. I have no room left in my house for toys... although I do have some for them it wont be as many as last year because of the shared gift.

It depends on the year if I do an egg hunt or not.

This year, we are having 3-4 egg hunts so I am kind of egg hunted out. The reason I said 3-4 is, my 5 year old had 4 egg hunts and the other kids "only" had three egg hunts.

So, they get their baskets. I wouldn't call ours a small Christmas, but definitely cool. I probably spend $50 for all three kids..just a little candy, we reuse baskets so no cost there, a few new DVDs (Bolt and Bedtime Stories), books and jump ropes from Five Below, etc.

Ours is kinda a small Christmas too.
I am not a mom that buys toys all year, so all of the holidays are prob. a bit bigger than the average house. Only thing I consistently buy is the new Disney DVDs and playdoh.

This yr the little one is getting pjs, underwear, Nintendo DS game, Bedtime stories DVD, new crocs. All new outdoor toys..they get nasty over time so I ditch every spring and start fresh. A cpl of packs of new legos. Ill prob do a bit more shopping. One thing the basket will lack is candy. THere will be a chocolate bunny and a big pack of nerds .

Our 20 yr old is getting a new xbox 360 game and all his fav candy and starbucks and mcdonalds gift cards. I prob would give him more, but his bday is on Monday.

We have a good time at Easter, but it's nowhere near Christmas in terms of food/candy/gifts.

Grandma likes to have the egg hunt (for all of the grandchildren at her house). Usually, we try to have an idea how many eggs were hidden so we can tell each kid to pick up his/her share. Say, Grandma and Grampa hide 200 eggs. That's 40 eggs per grandchild (5 grandchildren).

The Easter Bunny fills the kids' baskets. Usually, new sandals and sunglasses make an appearance. There's ALWAYS a Lindt chocolate bunny and sometimes a small package of jelly beans (Jelly Belly go over well). Books, coloring books, nailpolish (for DD), hair stuff (for DD), and Legos (for DS) go over well. I'd say we're around $50 or less per basket.

Grandma and Nanna each give the kids a basket, mostly FULL of candy. We go to an egg hunt at DH's work, DD has an egg hunt at pre-K, and last year we went to the town's egg hunt in addition to the one at Grandma's. The kids were still eating Easter candy in July.

Here, we can often have a wet Easter. Our family has learned to ONLY put individually-wrapped candy in the eggs. I also like to contribute small toys to Grandma's egg hunt... this year, plastic bugs, tattoos, and sticky hands from Oriental Trading Co.

Besides the usual easter candy, for dd's (18 &15) they will be getting new bathing suits from Victoria Secret, beach towels and some pretty flipflops. :goodvibes

DD gets a basket with a couple of small things, usually a webkinz and a dvd, a chocolate bunny and then I hide a couple or three dozen Easter eggs around the house. In the eggs are m&ms or reece's cups and this is the best part for her. We have to be more and more creative in the hiding places as she gets older, she is a good "seeker"!

DD's birthday is in April so she gets plenty of presents so I make Easter low key. I was actually born on Easter, DDad said the EB delivered me on the doorstep in a basket! :rotfl: and when DD is 11 her bday will be on Easter. That Easter will be really special!

This is a great idea! Thanks!
