Our family is considering a purchase but they are in the early stages of exploring all options. If we get the points for this year do you think we have a shot at booking for Easter? What do you think the latest we can book and find availability?
I'm wondering if we should make our usual arrangements and plan to cancel if DVC becomes a reality.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Resale takes about 2 months from start to finish before you can make reservations. If you bought today, it would be late September, most likely, before you could book--that puts you about 6 months out.

Depending on what you wanted, you may or may not find rooms. However, if you are flexible and willing to even split stay, I think there is a good chance.

However, I would definitely have some back up plans in case when you are ready, what is there is not what will work for you.

Good luck!

Our experience was that your DVC guide will bend over backwards to help you with your first reservation. We purchased recently and were able to book a villa at BWV during Food and Wine even though they were completely booked for our dates. Apparently, Mickey has some inventory that they give access to for first-timers, since they won't typically want to wait 7 or 11 months to make a first trip.

If you buy through Disney, you can actually set up a reservation right after making a down payment meaning you could make the reservation very soon if your purchase today and still be within the 11 month home resort advantage reservation window. Also, if you tell your guide what you want as a reservation when purchasing and, and it is at the resort you are purchasing, and you tell that guide that you are unlikely to go through with the purchase unless you can be assured of getting what you want, that slaes person will get it for you.

If you buy resale (far less expensive per point), you cannot make a reservation until about a week after you close when Disney gets you into the system as a new member. As noted above, that could easily put you well into Sep or even Oct, if you were to puchase today, before you could call to make a reservation. Easter time is high DVC demand time and by the time you call, there will likely be many things already gone. Most likely you will be able to get something at SSR other than treehouses because rooms there almost never fill before two months out if at all. Likely there will also be availability at OKW and for savanna and standard view at AKV. Anything else faces a significant risk of being gone.

I agree with others here.

Your guide will be able to get you a reservation if you purchase through Disney direct. They have additional magic that they can call upon.

If you go resale, you'll still probably be able to get SSR or possibly OKW at 6 months, but there won't be availability at the rest of the resorts.

If it were me, I'd go resale and take my chances. Worst case is you can't get anything, but you don't spend any points. Then you take that trip in Fall instead.

Good luck!

We bought a resale, I called MS before I was notified that I was in the system and was able to get a reservation using my SS. Good Luck!
