I have decided to have a day for me on our upcoming trip at either the Grand Floridian or the Disney Institute (I haven't decided which yet, though). I plan on getting massage, facial, manicure, and who knows what else!

So my questions for you to ponder this evening......

1. Anyone have experience with either spa? Which is better? Any suggestions on particular treatments?

2. Should I fit it in at the beginning of our stay or towards the end? (We are driving down and back----will likely have 2-3 days of big parks and 1 day of "smaller" activiites).

3. Any other tips?

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never experienced this but it sounds wonderful :)

2 years ago we visited WDW just a few weeks after my Dad passed away. I had only lost my Mom 1 year earlier. After her passing, my sister and I were the only ones to take care of my 84yo Dad. That was the most stressful year of my life. At the time my kids were 11, 4 and 3, I was working 40 hours a week and rotating nights staying with my Dad.
When we arrived at WDW, DH told me to pick a day just for myself and go to either spa I wanted to. I picked the GF. I arrived around 8:30am and stayed until almost 1pm. During that few hours, I totally lost myself to the outside world. First I had the 30 minute head/neck/shoulder massage. I felt like a wet noodle when the massage ended. After relaxing for a few minutes, I had a complete facial. Wonderful. Also very relaxing. After that I treated myself to not only a manicure but a pedicure too! I felt like I was in heaven!!!!!!!!!I highly recommend that you take a little time for yourself. YOU DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!;)
I have already told my DH that he had better put back a little extra money because I will definitley visit the GF Spa on our next trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been to both. I just love the Spa's:)

I would recommend doing it in the middle of your stay. That way you will be ready for relaxation after running around the parks and you will get to enjoy your mani and pedi while still away.

As for which one is better, I actually like the facilities at the DI better and the desk sevice is better. It is a Disney owned spa. The GF is lovely just not quite as nice as the DI but I do believe they serve food. Honestly I would pick the one closest to my hotel. I would ask for jean-Paul if you go to the GF, he is amazing:)

I've only been to the Grand Floridian, for a facial, and loved it. I had a wonderful aestetician from Brazil do my facial, she had the lightest touch I think I have ever experienced, and I have had many facials over the years.

I prefer a facial to a massage because you still get a light massage, and you also have something to show for it afterwards, as opposed to a massage. I love the way my skin glows after a facial.

Whichever you decide, I'm sure you can't go wrong. Have fun, Kristy!

:) THanks for your input!! I still can't decide!! I'm kind of leaning towards DI because of some of the treatments they offer. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! (Did I say that already??!?!! :) )

Well, don't forget your bathing suit. They both have a woman's only hot tub in a very relaxing room. Great place to hang out before or after and relax with a good book:) DI has an indoor pool too.

I've only been to the spa at the GF myself and I loved it there. I too would recommend mid-week. We did ours at the end but I think mid-week would have been perfect. I second bringing a bathing suit and if you do go to the GF do ask for Jean-Paul... he was amazing!!!!

We did the Grand Plan a coujple of years ago and a treatment at the GP Spa was included. I did a massage the last day of our trip and was really relaxed for the plane trip home.
