Early Roll Call for 10-31-04 Happy Halloween Cruise aboard the Wonder !!

Oh I never miss my bunco game!!! Luckily, we play the last Tuesday of the month so I'll still make it for October!!!! Maybe we should set up a game on the cruise. (Just kidding-really. Wouldn't my DH about die!)

Bill: Bunco is very popular in the south. About 4 years ago, "National Geographic" (of all magazines) did a 3 page story on Bunco and it featured groups all over North Carolina. That's about the time I started and I didn't know anyone else played it as well! Guess your DW and I will have a lot of comparing to do!

Marley

Pammyjo: just saw your post. Too funny! We'll all have to compare Bunco notes. :earsgirl:

I cannot repress my intellectual curiousity. please tell me what is bunco and how is it played. thanks.

Hi all! As you can tell, I have only been able to get online a couple of times a week at best. We have been so busy here, so I imagine my time until the cruise will go fast! My oldest DS (9) plays football and they are now 6-0!!! Looks like they will be going to the playoffs. Get this. . . we planned our trip knowing that he would miss two games. o.k. - no sweat - afterall, he is not in the pros. Well, a couple weeks ago, we find out that on Oct 30, his team plays at William & Mary Stadium!!!!!!!!! Never done that before, and may never do it again. He is the big man on the team this year, as he is onle of the oldest. We have struggled with this and this is what we came up with: my youngest and I will still drive down on Oct 29, and my DH and oldest will fly down after the game on Sat. Can you believe this! What luck! When we asked him which he would rather do (Sea World on the 30th or play in his game), he replied, "I don't know mom. They are both an opportunity of a lifetime!" He was so good about it, we have added an extra day to our trip and will do Sea World at the end of WDW! I just melted when he said that. He already knows how to work us! Ha!

O.k. I have told everyone that I would take pictures of the Wonder in drydock. However, I am seriously considering not going. This will be our first ever cruise, and I want the boys to have the whole experience of seeing if for the first time at the port. What do you all think? I feel bad, as I said I would get pictures for you all. What would you do? I keep thinking that first glimpse of the ship at port will be magical (I've got tears in my eyes already!).

This has gotten a little lengthy. It was great to see everyone in the newsletter - Ralph thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You put a lot of time into it. Marly, thank you for all your hard work.

Not long now everyone. Let me know what you think about the Wonder in drydock! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Tammy: Congratulations to your son! 6-0 is awesome! I'd stay for the game too :)

As for the ship, I do have to agree as you drive over the bridge into Cape Canaveral, it is arched and you can't see anything at first. As you get to the top of the bridge, suddenly the ship comes in to full view and you are just blown away. It is beautiful. If you can wait, we can all wait too :)

Ralph: Bunco is a dice game. We play 3 tables of 4 people and you rotate around for maximum talking and snacking. The head table starts the game each time by ringing a bell and then you roll until you get to 21 (first with all 1's, then all 2's, etc). Very easy to roll and talk at the same time so it is a very social game. Winners each time move, losers stay so you get to be with a different group each time and you can never have the same partner twice in a row. We play for $5 each so at the end, the pot goes out to: most wins, most losses, 50/50, etc. I have been on a losing streak lately and it has not helped my onboard ship account!!!

bunco sounds more exciting than bingo. that game sounds great. If any of you get that game going on the ship (promenade and diversions seem like excellant places for it due to all the tables and chair set ups around) I would like to try a few rounds if you have space for an extra player. anyway, thanks marley for explaining that to me. oh and by the way, I GOT OUR CRUISE DOCS TODAY, STEPHANIE IS OUT OF HER MIND WITH EXCITEMENT !! and I am not far behind.

:Pinkbounc
WOOOooo-HOOOOooo!!!!!!!!
They're HERE!!!
In case you didn't get that...I'll translate...
MY DOCS CAME TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just seems more "official" now!!
I thought that we got luggage tags from DCL...but guess I was wrong...mine came from my cruise company... Did anyone get DCL tags??

Tammy...I agree with Marley...we can wait!! I have been dreaming about seeing the ship as we get to the top of the bridge...and it will be here in just over 3 short weeks!! (O.K...3 long, drawn out, pain-stakingly slow...weeks!!)

Talk to you all soon!

Thanks guys! I appreciate your understanding. I will wait and enjoy that first glimpse in port!

Shana:

Your luggage tags are inside your travel booklet. Each booklet has two. Flip to around the middle and you can't miss the aqua blue tags. They all have your stateroom number on them.

Is it too Late to be involved in the trick or treating for this Halloween Wonder Cruise? I have 3 children DS 13, DS 12, and DD 8. I saw this thread before but have been extremely busy with getting back in the swing of things with teaching and figuring out how I was going to get the time off from teaching. It all worked out in the end. Let me know if I'm not too late to add my info! Thanks

Ralph, I have to be honest here. Not sure about all bunco groups, however Marley left one very impt part out of her description. She said maximum talking and snacking, but you would definately have to add drinking to that. How else could such a silly game get so loud and wild at times??? No offense to anyone's games that maybe don't include a little indulgence!

And Marley, our game is $10/night and I've been on a TERRIBLE losing streak. I may have to pass on one of those little frou-frou drinks to make up for the last few months!!!

Shana, I'm jealous. I want my docs tomorrow or I'm gonna cry.

Ok - seems like a good time for me to jump in here! Unlike my husband, I cannot let myself get so hyped up so far in advance of the actual cruise - but now that it is less than a month away, I AM PSYCHED! I cannot wait to get on that ship and forget all about work and our normal lives!

You know our story already so I won't repeat anything Ralph has said, but I am sure he hasn't told you this - I'm the boss! LOL! Looking forward to meeting y'all and getting to know you here before we go.

:jumping1:

For the first time, I am going to treat myself to a Spa experience on the Wonder. I have never had a massage or facial so I am going to do that, but also saw the Alpha Capsule and thought it looked interesting. Anyone ever do it?
Stephanie

welcome Stephanie! Your husband has done a great job running things for us :)

I have never done a spa treatment on the ship but I think a facial sounds wonderful!

Marley

P.S. MRP: I have sent you a PM about the TOT.

hello Stephanie!!

I have never been on a cruise, but I cant imagine any spa treatment being bad! the only advice I can give you is if you have impure skin like me, then don't do a facial. it will make your skin break out for the next week :(. also, if you plan to go back out into the sun after your massage, be sure to put a lot of sunscreen on before you go back out !

Thanks for the advice! I actually have really large pores and wanted a facial to clear them out. I guess I will have to think twice about it!

hmmm. I see there is a hostile takeover here. ah well, it was only a matter of time before the Boss moved in. : :MickeyMo :earseek: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I got 'em! I got 'em! We will be in room 5127 and 5129. Bumped up to cat 11. Nothing spectacular, but oh well. I'm not spending that much time in the room and we have two rooms anyway so space won't be an issue. I really like that I'm on the 5th level.
