Hi! We leave in 8 days :Pinkbounc and our flight is early! We are leaving the house at 5:15am. I need some suggestion for kid-friendly breakfast items to pack that won't go bad.

I was thinking of freezing some Dannimals or GoGurts and bringing those with so that by the time we're on the plane they are thawed. Has anyone done this?

My kids are 2 and almost 4. Any thoughts?

I really don't want to spend money on the gross food at the airport. We did that last year and the food was gross! THANKS!

We leave on an early flight in 5 days! Are you flying out of Philly? We're on Air Tran 7:00 flight.

We stay at the Hilton Airport Hotel the night before so my choices are limited. I end up getting them a croissant or bagel and juice at the airport. On the flight I've packed some breadstick and cheese packets and fruit snacks. THat usually holds them over until we leave!

I think if you froze the go gurts they should be fine. I used to do that for the kids when they took the gogurt to school for lunches.

How about a banana? Bring along a little baggie so you toss the banana peel. For my toddler, I put the banana and a plastic knife in a bag. Then I slice up one piece at a time til it's gone, then I toss the knife and peel in the bag I brought it in.

I'm also bringing a little peanut butter sandwich for our little guy. That will stick to his ribs!

Freezing the yogurt sticks is a great idea. We'd do something like that along with fruit and an organic granola bar. That is more sugar than we'd normally give them but, hey, it's the start of a vacation. :Pinkbounc How about a nut-free trail mix kind of thing? My midkid is almost three so we let him raisins now (I mention it cos they are usually a component of the trail mix)

I might do peanut butter on whole grain bread but I have found that combo gets a bit hard and stale after a couple hours or so.

Second to yogurt my 2 year old and 4 year old love applesauce - I get the single serve kind in little plastic containers and just bring a plastic spoon. They come in assorted flavors such as strawberry/applesauce and even no sugar added if that is what you prefer. I have found that the foil lids are suprisingly strong (I often keep one in my diaper bag).

Even though my DS and DD and now 10 and 6 they still love dry cheerios.
Some of those juice boxes may taste good at room temperature to the children. I have made cinn toast and cut the edges off and put them in a bag for car trips. They liked that.
:p It is indeed harded than you think to come up with good ideas, LOL. :p

We used to freeze go-gurts all of the time! My kids love them like that. It's kind of like a ice pop at the pool. That's a great idea for the plane.

My DD who will be 2 next week has recently gone crazy for the frozen Stoneyfield Farms yogurt sticks. Personally, I think that the yogurt sticks are pricey for the tiny amount of yogurt that are in them, but they are great if you are on the go. I also found organic applesauce sticks at our health food store recently and DD loves those frozen as well.

Another favorite on the go breakfast for DD is organic cherrios (the trader joe's brand) mixed with dehydrated apples (other dehydrated fruit works well too, but DD loves apples). I pop it in a Snack Trap and we are good to go!

Have a great trip!

My boys love the new Go-Tarts. (I think that is what they are called.) They are the new form of Pop-Tarts. I took them for myself on our trip, but the boys ate them all!!!

How about bagels? You can grab a few jelly or butter packets from a fast food place.

Add some fruit and a juice box and you're all set. :cheer2:

Peanut butter is our family favorite for road trips, but
I wonder if it could trigger problems for other travelers
with peanut allergies? I don't know how sensitive
one would have to be if a sandwich were opened next to
them? That's why I've avoided PBJ in planes.

PP's suggestion of apple sauce cups are a good idea. I was thinking of maybe fresh fruit (apple, banana or orange) and some string cheese.
Or how about instant oatmeal? You know, the flavored ones. They sell them in individual cups and the flight attendent can give you some hot water.

Thanks everyone! These are all great ideas!

I'm going to freeze some go-gurts, pack some small boxes of raisins, a couple of small plain bagels and a banana (the kids can share the banana).

Great ideas all around - oh and I will avoid opening anything with peanut butter on the plane. You really can't be too careful these days.

My kids are the same ages and they enjoy Breakfast Bites, they are like little cereal bar bites...they also come in individual packs which are helpful!! I am planning on taking these on our Disney trip for a quick b-fast in the room. Otherwise Fruit is good (bananas are easy!) Have fun.

My kids are a bit older, DD15, DS5 and DS3. When we travel we buy the small 'travel' size boxes of cereal and let the kids pick what they want. Mini boxes of Rasins, cereal bars, granola bars, banana's, apples, grapes.... I agree with the airport food! YUCK!!!

Have a great time on your trip!!!!

For my dd, I'd go with Nutrigrain bars and an apple/banana, then get her juice on the plane. She'd be good to go, then!

My DD (2) loves Earth's Best TOTS cereal bars that I get at Whole Foods. Fruit is also a good idea too. My DD can't get enough bananas.

Guess I won't be getting the Mother of the Year Award. I vote for stopping at McDonald's drive-thru and getting a breakfast sandwich on the way to the airport.

We eat healthy all year long and we throw all the rules out the window for our annual Disney vacation. So greasy, sugary, unhealthy, way too much Disney Dining Plan food - here we come for 9 days! :)

I was gonna suggest McD's, too! My kids get pancakes & sausage to eat in the car on the way to the airport. I cut sausage in 3 strips, and roll each one in a pancake. I call them Sausage Tacos. They love it and it's not messy.

The other thing they love for b-fast is Mini-Muffins. Choc chip mini-muffins to be exact. If you don't want to buy the ones at the store, you could make healthier muffins at home to take with you.

Granola bars are another one that goes over well with my 2.

Don't forget the napkins, handwipes, and a plastic bag to throw it all away in. :goodvibes
