Early-Early Roll call.... 4-28-07 Eastern

Hello All....

I have a question about formal night. My DH and myself were discussing what should we wear for formal night. What is everyone else wearing?? Tux?? Suit?? I would love to know.
Thanks,
Kathy
Our guys will just be wearing dark suits. We have been on 8 cruises and they have never worn a tux and never felt uncomfortable. There will be men wearing polo shirts and khakis and I have seen worse than that. I just figure everyone has a story and I don't know what theirs is so I am happy for them that they are cruising.

I will be wearing a short skirt with beaded jacket and black pants with a flowy beaded shirt.

I signed up today for the CC Sea Horse boat trip. It is early morning and only 2-2.5 hours. I like the idea of the snorkel lagoon, as we only have to do it as long as we want and can always wade to shore. The 'negative' comments all came from the boards. People complained thet the bottom gets kicked up and the water becomes murky. I guess the key is to go early in the morning.

We are in cabins 2500 and 2502 - right up front. Not sure this is a good thing.

This was an exchange to my DVC points, so they may limit us to specific cabins - hopefully not the less desirable ones. I think our disadvantage was changing cruises late and requesting side by side.

I may change my mind and opt for the lagoon, still debating...We may regret spending time away from the island.

Good Morning...

Thanks for the input about formal night. This will help a lot.

My DS (14) is still eyeing me suspiciously. When I mentioned Tux :scared1: he thought I was kidding. He will be dressed nice but how am I going to get him out of his running shoes?? He has been growing like a weed (he stands at 6'2") so I am hesitant about buying him some nice dress shoes. His shoe size changes monthly. I am glad about all of the food being included in the price. He eats us out of house and home. :rotfl2:

I may get flamed for saying this, but I would just let him wear his running shoes. Maybe his pair of the month can be a dark color that might blend a little better,if you prefer. I remember when my son was that age, these will be fond memories for you one day. He stopped growing at size 13 but going from 10 to there happened really fast! Men's shoes cost so much and for him to only wear one week....

Another idea would be to try a nice consignment shop. Some large towns have some that are nicer than others and you may find something for him there. Somethimes people put nice stuff in there.

Wow, a 6'2" 14 year old! Makes me remember the days in 6th grade of being 5'4", I'm not alone!

If he eats a ton then a cruise is perfect! And being that tall, we'll all recognize him now - so tell him he has about 20 new friends. Good luck with dressing everyone :)

I agree with Floridagram, my girls don't dress up that much either. My 14yrold DD is 5ft 8 1/2 and still growing:eek: . If my 10yrold DD grows that tall, I'll be the shortest in the family. I tell my girls that all I want is for them to be clean and neatly dressed, it always seems to work out fine. My DH doesn't do Tux's. A nice jacket and tie and he looks handsome enough for me:love:

We're going shopping next weekend and something lime green is on my list:thumbsup2

Husband is not doing a tux. He would rather wear dress jacket. I hope to talk him into maybe a tie? I know we've lived in south florida too long when wearing something other than flip flops and board shorts is considered dressing up and wearing a jacket when the temp dips down to 75.

Anyone looking for anything in particular in the ports? It seems like shopping in the bahamas is a big thing and I want to know what I am supposed to be looking for? Other than rum?;)

Hi everybody!

We have been so busy here trying to get everything ready for the cruise! I finally got my dresses for formal night and semi-formal night. Actually I found a dress on Sat. for formal night, but then I found one on Mon. that I like better, so I took the first one back. It worked out better this way because the first one was going to need the straps shortened (I seem to have a short torso so straps are almost always too long). I think that I can find a picture if anyone want to see. We also got the girls their dresses for formal night, but the straps will need shortened for theirs (same problem as mommy I guess). They are going to wear princess dresses for semi-formal. I told them they could wear them for formal night, but they wanted a "fancy" dress from the "fancy dress store" at our mall (their words!). DH is going to wear a tux. We don't get the chance to dress up very often, and we both enjoy it so we are going to take advantage of it!

Also went swim suit shopping:crazy: Does everyone else hate this as much as I do? I found one that I liked after trying on no less than 15. I am hoping to find at least one more, but I am running out of places to look. I have to be able to try it on, so online isn't working!

I know that someone said that they hoped they got their docs before they left - us too! We leave the house on the 20th, so hopefully they get here before then!

My two DS will have on cute tuxedos. Although the 10 yr old will object vehemently over the use of the word cute to describe him:lmao: . They were in a wedding last summer and it was cheaper to buy the tuxedos than rent them...hmm go figure that!

Anyway, I am going to have them try them on this week. My oldest (said 10 yr old) is pretty good sized for 10 years old. He measures taller than many of his 12 year old friends. Otherwise they will be in khaki's and polos on the other nights.(I draw the line at shorts when dining out, though I may cave and let them wear flip flops the night we go to the caribbean rest. Can't remember the name but it is supposed to be a little more laid back).

I will be wearing a cocktail dress for both semi and formal, and DH will sport his suit, with different colored shirts for each night. Our real fun night will be the Pirates night, we are all decking out!

I am so glad that we are all going to be "in the same boat" with the formal issue. (no pun intended):rotfl2: My DD is such a "total princess" that she is ready and will be dressed to the "nines" for formal night.

My DH thinks that he is going to be a "pack mule" with all of our luggage. Isn't travelling fun?

Kathy

Hello all! I know it's hard waiting for those docs but we have a little while longer!! Time ticked so slow last year and everyday I RAN to the mailbox as soon as I heard the mailman close the mailbox! It really gets antsy when the first person reports on here that they got their docs! It's a race!!

I need to update our list. I have guests in town for a week and a half so I've been busy with 4 kids alone (the 2 youngest ones are 12 months and 19 months). Boy, now I know why God doesn't allow us to have babies only 7 months apart!:scared1: :crazy2:  I have been alone with them for a few days. Oh my goodness....if I were on a ship, I would have jumped overboard! They are too close in age!

So....with all that said....I still have not bought a THING for this cruise. And I am the organized packer, lists, boxes, etc. I have had NO time. My BIL & nephew leave on Sunday so it's gonna be 2 weeks of straight shopping. Buying a dress, swimsuit and wardrobe like that doesn't make me happy because it's too much pressure! I am going to start my list right now so at least I know where to even start!

I'm getting excited! Have we officially decided to meet on Deck 10 on Sat. at 5:00 for the sail away party? It was so much fun last year to get the party started with those of you who we feel like we know! Julia&Nicksmom...hopefully you can talk to your inlaws! Being on deck 9 during the party is tricky because there are so many people down there. We also stood on Deck 10 looking down for pirates night!

In terms of formal night, I'm scared to buy a dress! After having 2 kids, I am definitely not down to that starting weight. Formal night brings all kinds of outfits. Some people like to really dress up because it's such a rare moment for most of us, while others just wear a regular dress. For those of you in my situation, don't stress out over having to look like your going to a black tie party! Of course, I have to keep reminding myself of this when I go shipping!
Hubby is wearing a suit, I think. Or maybe dress pants and a jacket.

Anyone know where I can get a princess dress for a 19 month old? She has a tink outfit but I looked for a dress but came up empty handed. Actually, I took my 4 year olds Belle dress last year and we never wore it. I'm gonna attempt to take it again this year!

Well, I am going to start my extensive list! Night!

I was looking over the deck plans of the ship last night so I would know where things were. Deck 10 is bigger than I expected it to be. Where on deck 10 are we going to try to meet?

Well, I didn't hear anyone mention this one......
My DH has been teasing me that he is going to bring his "salt and peppers." That's US Navy lingo for his dress uniform. HA! He will look like Capt. Stubing!:lmao:
He has a tux and a suit which he will probably bring but I don't put it past him to bring the "officer and a gentleman" garb. Either we will be easy to spot or he will look like the crew.:rotfl:
I am so excited about this cruise he could wear a baby blue tux with a ruffle shirt and I would be happy. Just give me a frilly-girlie rum drink and I could care less!

I just found this thread. Cool! Looks like our ship is going to have an active bunch!!

I'm assuming it's the part that parallel's the Goofy Pool which is where they have the dancing and the Arielvision screen. It'll be packed - but wear lime green! :cool1:

Greetings eph94

There are a lot of us who are first timers. We are all very excited to get on board and meet everyone.

Kathy

Thanks for the kind welcome!

Our family consists of DH35 (me), DW38, and DS6. We're from eastern Massachusetts, in a town called Middleton, which is about 20 miles as the crow flies north of Boston. We cruised as first-timers on the 3-24-07 Western last month and loved it so much that as soon as we got home we booked this Eastern cruise! We tried to book on board, but Disney couldn't offer a flight and I didn't want to take any chances without knowing flight cost and availability. Fortunately, I was able to find some reasonable rates from Southwest flying out of New Hampshire. It's a little more of a hike to drive to that airport, but it will be well worth it for direct flights. For our Western trip, Disney provided a less-than-ideal arrival flight that included a 3-hour layover in Atlanta. We left our house at 4AM and finally boarded the ship 11 1/2 hours later. It was grueling.

We're currently booked in the steerage section of the boat (Cat 12, Deck 2, Forward) but I'm going to count my lucky stars and see if we can get an upgrade at port. We're flying in the night before this time around. We were in a Cat 11 room (Deck 6, Aft) in our Western cruise and it was completely fine, so if we don't get an upgrade it won't be a problem. There is so much to do on the ship and the ports that we were only in the room for sleeping, changing, and washing up anyway.

I haven't read this entire thread (YET), but I've ascertained enough that we need to acquire some lime green apparel. I don't know how this will fly with the DW since I stopped picking out my own clothes years ago to avoid the ensuing ridicule. I do think, however, that her excitement for our encore trip might allow for a little leeway. :confused3

Thanks again for the welcome and I'm looking forward to seeing y'all on the cruise!

Joe (me), Amanda (DW), and Sam (DS)

I just plowed through this entire thread. Wow. Many of you have the patience of Job. I don't think I could ever book a vacation more than a year in advance. I'm sure the anticipation would kill me first!!

To add some of the pertinent information that I left out in my previous post, we have the Late Dinner Seating and we're currently in Room 2511. As I mentioned, however, I'm going to do my darndest to buy an upgrade at port, so that may change. From what I've read on this forum, the likelihood is slim, but hey, I was actually one of the Bingo winners on our 3-24 Western cruise last month! Stranger things have happened.

I like the idea of the snorkel lagoon, as we only have to do it as long as we want and can always wade to shore. The 'negative' comments all came from the boards. People complained thet the bottom gets kicked up and the water becomes murky. I guess the key is to go early in the morning.

A couple of weeks ago, I didn't get to snorkel until after lunch, so I expected a murky mess. Surprisingly, the water seemed clear to me. The area that was murky was the part of the lagoon that was adjacent to beach up to about 3 feet in depth. After that, it looked clear. This was my first time snorkeling, so I don't know if this water is considered murky or not to the veteran snorkelers. Here's a picture I took of the Underwater Mickey at about 3:30PM, not long before the lagoon closed:

We're all most looking forward to Castaway Cay again, and I didn't even make it out to Serenity Bay!

This time around, we haven't booked any excursions at the ports. We like the flexibility of not being tied to a schedule, other than the All Aboard time of course!

I just realized that my son and I have light greenish colored polo shirts, but I'm not sure if they pass for "lime" green. Here is a picture of the color (taken in the Oceaneer Club during the Open House on the first night):

Is that color "close enough"? My shirt might just be a TAD darker.

My last cruise ended 6 days ago and I think the anticipation for THIS cruise is killing me EVEN MORE.

If he wore his "salt and peppers" he would be a hero for many of the American contingent on the cruise... seriously. He would have to deal with lots of people walking up to him and thanking him for serving our country. If he is into that, then I say go for it!! I'm sure my DS6 would want to meet him if he saw him dress up like that. As we flew from Orlando back to Boston last week, there was a serviceman on the plane. The flight attendant mentioned it over the PA and he got a round of applause from the cabin.
