E*** "win" Has this happened to you...

and what did you do, what was the outcome?
DH has been so hot to trot for Toy Story pins lately.
He bid and won this, "Larger than the earlier Buzz pin this one is a little over two inches and M.O.C. just out and very cute."
Well.... we rec'd the standard rack Buzz pin that is 1 1/2" tall. We didn't pay a lot, but more that what it is going for on Ebay from other sellers. (Not to mention we bought this rack pin last January at WDW.)

I e-m'd the seller (nicely). I am hoping it is a shipping error. But.... We will see what the response will be. DH will not be a happy man. (Except his Rex arrived today. Good, good.)

Has anyone had similar auction buying experiences, and what was the outcome?

Seller's reply:
"This is the larger pin, the other Buzz that Disney sold is much smaller than the one sent, if you dont want it please return it and I will refund your payment."
Darn right I'm returning it! More out of principle! This is not a new rack pin and it does not measure what they stated in their Ebay listing. FALSE ADVERTISING!
I usually pay electronically. But they wanted a money order. So I am out the cost of the M.O., the postage to mail it, and the postage to return this darn pin!
Just ticks me off!! Shame, shame on them!
Not a good time to get me ticked. My FIL is DYING!

First of all, Barbara, I am very sorry to hear about your Father-in-law. It may seem coarse to many to combine such sentiments with our frivolous hobby . . . But, I know from experience, we all need some diversion from our day-to-day woes to keep us sane. I hope you know you can come here (and reach me directly, if you need to) anytime to relieve the stress from your FIL's situation.

Secondly, you're darn right to be mad at anyone who misrepresents what they sell. Sadly, it is way too common on the auction sites. I once received a button, rather than a pin -- and don't tell me the seller didn't know the difference! Oh, there was a picture . . . very blurred, very distorted, hard to make out. But, it was a pin I thought I knew. Only later I noticed that his scans of other items were not distorted. Outcome? I didn't bother doing anything about it; it wasn't worth the grief.

Again, so sorry about your FIL.

Now I know again why I don't buy anything from the auction sites - I only browse. I was just telling my husband a little while ago about a trade I currently have with someone from this board. I said I prefer to trade with "my friends!" I've gotten somewhat complacent & only trade with people "I know!" I am sorry this happened to you & your husband because you are on my list of "friends to trade with!"

I've never had a problem with any misrepresentation on ebay, although I've seen plenty of misrepresented items. I use the "ask seller a question" feature regularly and if I don't like the answer or I don't get one, I don't bid.

I'm not sure this situation warrants negative feedback. The seller is willing to accept a return, even though they are under no obligation to do so, which is a GOOD thing. I assume that the pin was shipped in a reasonable period of time, and communication has been done in a timely manner?

Can you post the item # so we can see what the item description said?

I'm not sure I feel comfortable jumping on the "terrible seller" bandwagon over "just out" (how do we know that the seller didn't think this was a new pin, has the pin been out for awhile and is now being restocked?) or a difference of 1.5 and 2 inches (I know I'm not that good of an estimator eyeballing).

When I think of false advertising I think of the auction a few months back that Flyinglizard pointed out with the Mickey Mouse belt buckle (?) selling for over $100 that was advertised as "rare" that was actually counterfit.

Their own personal "newest pin". Anyone know how long this pin has been selling? Several months I know.

Anyone know of a smaller Buzz in this same pose? And I wrote the seller this and asked him/her what Pinpics # the "smaller" one was. (No response)
One and a half inches is certainly not "a little over 2 inches". It's just 2" by even including the measurement of the plastic card it is attached to!
I am painstakingly honest in descriptions. (I'm in accounting -- we are notorious for being anal retentive. ) So this kind of stuff really irritates me.
DH wonders if I should keep the pin and just rate them bad and report them to Ebay as misrepresenting what was sold. Might be eaasier in the long run.
I certainly won't be their repeat buyer.

Eeyore's Pal -- the same happened to me too. Again I paid for a large button that they said was a hard enamel pin. (Yahoo Auctions) I let it go and kicked myself. But again, never would buy from them again and I didn't rate them at all. They were selling the same thing again and I reported it to Yahoo. (One burned, shame on you. Twice burned, shame on me.)
The Yahoo was misrepresented (IMHO). The Ebay seller downright lied, IMHO.

I don't buy too many pins on e-bay. I try to trade amoung friends that I've met here on disboards. I do use pinpics a lot to try and get more information on the pins. It looks like it was pin 843, which seems to be quite popular in terms of people wanting to trade it.

I think you should give your FIL a little crash course in the pin back cards. So far, in my short collecting history, I've come accross three sizes.

Small - 2 1/4" H x 1 3/4"W from bottom of card to top of ears, where the felt measures 1 1/8" x 1 3/4"
Medium - 3 1/2" H x 2" W, felt measures 2 1/8" x 2"
Large - 3 1/2" H x 3", felt measures 2 1/8" x 3"

At least he'll be better able to guestimate the size of the pins in the future when they say M.O.C.

I hope you work it out with the seller. It seems reasonable that they will take it back. You'll be out about $3 for for S/H and your MO. Your only mechanism would be the feedback.

Go with your gut feeling and principles.

I would give them a bad rating. I have a ruler at my computer to measure pins. And I only measure the pin not the packaging.

Just won an auction only to find out that the seller didnt have the pin at all.....how do you like that one.....she is refunding my money and has ordered the pin from someone else and is shipping it to me free....we shall see......
