OMG!! I just heard that they may be removing ET?!?!?! For the love of God NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

That would be INCREDIBLY STUPID!!! :dance3:For one thing, certain rides are timeless and SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED PEOPLE!!!!

(The all-caps is for hopefully any universal execs that may read this.)

This is also a ride my kids LOVE, there is absolutely no need or reason to tear this ride down. Would be a HUGE mistake IMO!!! DO NOT DO THIS!!! Or you will make a lot of people mad, and I dare say may even cause some protests. I'm really tired of them tearing down attractions. If you want to build new ones, figure out another way to add, DON"T TEAR DOWN THE OLD!!

I have not heard this. May I ask where you heard it? Its a decently cool ride but I heard contract with Spielberg came to an end this year ish so it wouldn't suprise me too much if it happens. Then again I would also be suprised if they have the cash to redo another ride.

Just what I've read on here, so hopefully it is just pure speculation, conjecture and unsubstansiated here-say. It truely makes me angry when they tear down rides, first King Kong, then part of the Lost Continent now this? Hopefully not, and hopefully they have learned some type of lesson that tearing down these awesome attractions is STUPID!!

I don't see any more new rides at Universal for a while.

Imo they should tear it down and make something new. Then buy some more land and open up a "Universal Classic" park and put all the old goodies in with that BTTF, Kong, Hitchcock, Ghostbusters, Nickelodeon etc...

It will prob never happen but a man can dream! :cloud9:

This rumor has been going around for quite some time, but there's no cause for alarm. My guess is that people started speculating after Hollywood removed their E.T. attraction, and then most recently, Universal Studios Japan getting rid of their E.T. I was kinda worried after hearing about US Japan removing E.T. awhile back, and started fearing the worst for ours.

But so far, Universal Orlando hasn't made any indications that their version will be leaving. (And I hope that stays true). As one of the pp's mentioned...some attractions just shouldn't be touched. E.T. has been a classic staple attraction, and would make as much sense leaving as Disney removing HM or Pirates.

So I hope it's just the rumor mill spinning again, and really nothing to fear.

Love it!

Hannah Barbera is gone. Ghostbusters. Kong. Back To The Future. Alfred Hitchcock. Nickelodeon Studios. Why would ET be any different? There is an entire generation now who haven't seen ET and would care less if it went away.

I think it will go away eventually but so much money has been sunk into USF lately that I think it will be quite a while before another new ride goes in.

Howdy neighbor.. Bonita Springs that is.. not far from Cape Coral..

I love your idea.. I would love to see "Universal Classic"... bring back all the oldies but goodies... and when they re-build ET, they can re-build it with the free AT&T calls to home they had.. as well as the original bikes and space ships :thumbsup2

I think someone mentioned something about it on another thread but it definitely wasn't something concrete that will be happening.Eventually like most of the rides in Universal it will be removed but probably not anytime soon.

hehe yup...Actually living in San Carlos Park now I am right down the road from ya. :)

E.T. is a CLASSIC, but so was King Kong...

I would say there's some things for and against it staying, if I am able to do it from a purely objective basis:

For:

*It is an incredibly well done dark ride that rivals some of Disney's best
*It features a unique personal interaction with E.T. when he says your name
*It is a massive ride with many unique effects
*It's one of the best kid-friendly attractions in the whole Universal Resort
*Probably the most important is what Steven Speilberg wants, and that is to keep this version open since he wanted at least one to remain.
*I honestly don't think this attraction relies as much on a movie backdrop as some other attractions like Terminator or Shrek

Against:

*E.T. probably doesn't have the same lasting power as a movie for kids as other movies
*It's clearly a VERY complex and VERY expensive ride to operate and maintain
*The location of it and the existing structure could house a good ride

So that is as objective as I can be. I seriously don't want the ride to be replaced, it's just too special.

Maybe there will be a sequel or remake of E.T. soon and they'll keep it due to some newfound popluarity :p
