i'm saving for another trip to wdw and want to sell on e-bay, but am really thinking that it will be too much work for me. my stamina isn't what it was....

i've heard there are people who will do the work for you and, of course, take their cut. anyone know anything about this? we're in the chicago area.

From what I've heard they take an ENORMOUS cut. So much so that, unless you're selling big ticket items, it's really not worth it. Can you find a friend or family member who would do it for you for maybe a small flat fee?

I know I do it for friends/family and all I normally charge is the listing and final value fees which would otherwise come out of my pocket.

The eBay "lister" that works in my area starts her fees at 35% of the selling price, plus you have to pay all fees (listing & final value):scared1:

I agree with the other poster who suggested asking a family member or friend to help.

We have an "I Sold It" store locally, and they will only take items that have an estimated final sale price of $150 and up, and they take 40%. You can do so much better with just a little bit of your own time or a helpfull friend or neighbor.

I have paid a neighborhood high school girl to come list some of our items for us. I pay her $10 an hour, and she is so fast she gets much more listed than I ever could. :thumbsup2

What you are talking about is the eBay Trading Assistant Program. I'm stating this right off the bat, I am a registered Trading Assistant (TA).

A fair and honest TA will take 30-40% of the selling price as their commission. This is fair and common compensation.. The TA has to pay not only eBay fee's out of their commission, but Paypals as well. What is left after paying off the fees is very fair compensation for their time and effort to list your items. They need to photograph them, write the descriptions, upload everything, handle all communications regarding the item, pack the item, bring it to the shipping agent, and follow up on the sale.

eBay offers a directory to all the registered TA's. To be on this listing you have to attain and maintain certain selling criteria. The directory can be found here

If you do not have a family member to help out, or perhaps a neighborhood teen/adult that you oculd pay a fee too, perhaps just a little offer of $ for their help, I'd pass on it. The fees that Others charge, including the ebay TA is a waste IMHO, (I was a seller for several years with many many auctions) ebay itself has changed considerably with changes to fee structures and policies...not worth it any more unless you sell TONS.
Perhaps just a (garage) "one day" blowout sale?????
Best of Luck!

Why not try your local craigslist? The thought of ebay was overwhelming to me. I wasn't even sure where to start. I decided to try craigslist instead. I did buy an inexpensive digital camera so that I would be able to post pictures with my listings, but lots of people don't post pictures. There are no fees and all sales are local so no need to worry about shipping. It really is easy. Even if you feel you wouldn't be able to do it, I would think it would be easier to convince someone to help you with craigslist rather than ebay. We have sold several items in the 2 weeks since I started posting. Good luck!

thank you everyone. i'm just not sure what to do. i actually do think that 30-40% is not unreasonable, since there is a daunting amount of work to be done.
thx
